Bio
Dr. Thompson is a professor in the Department of Applied Communication. She has been at this institution for 38 years. Before coming to 糖心Vlog传媒, Little Rock, she taught communication courses for medical professionals at the College of Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri. She also taught for several years at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. As a military brat, she spent her early years all over the world, so she experienced a variety of cultures and people. She has performed workshops and training in numerous places. Training allows her to supplement her knowledge in 鈥渁ction.鈥�

Awards and Honors
Co-Creator and Inaugural Co-Director, 2007-2011, for the Academy for Teaching and Learning Excellence (ATLE), also known as The Teaching Academy. Carol Thompson, Michael Kleine, and Dave McAlpine founded this teaching academy after years of committee work with other faculty and research on the effectiveness of teaching centers.
Chaired the committee to require First-Year Experience Courses for incoming students at the University of Arkansas, Little Roc. Taught over 20 First-Year Experience courses to prepare incoming students for their role as students in an academic environment by introducing students to resources on campus and encouraging good study skills, test-taking, time management, and stress reduction.
Communication Across the Curriculum (OCC) with Linda Pledger and Allan Ward. Wrote Blue Ribbon Grants for several years totaling approximately $30,000. Held a series of workshops about incorporating communication into all courses, each for three years of funding.
Coordinator of Learning Communities, which are a series of two or more courses linked together鈥攕tudents are no longer strangers鈥攖hey get to know each other. Research shows this approach helps students persist in their education. 鈥淪tudents in learning communities persisted into the next year at considerably higher rates than did similar students in regular courses.鈥� (Tinto, 1993).

John I. Sisco Excellence in Teaching Award, a regional award presented by the Southern States Communication Association, in Tampa FL, 2015.
Fulbright Scholar鈥檚 Award to teach in Pecs, Hungary, 2006 for 6 months. Taught 3 courses at the University of Pecs: conflict management, gender communication, and political communication: voices on the extreme left and right of American politics.
Distinguished Teaching Professor Award, given by the Academy for Teaching and Learning Excellence, 2007.
Selected for the faculty exchange program, Karl Franz University, Graz, Austria, May 2003. 3 Weeks of instruction and lecturing in Austria.

Grant Awarded. Researched and submitted a $3000 research grant to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, 糖心Vlog传媒LR, to investigate how pharmacists use medical terminology.
