This summer, Dr. Laura Barrio-Vilar attended the and published a book review of Jason Richards’s Imitation Nation: Red, White, and Blackface in Early and Antebellum U.S. Literature. You can read the book review in Legacy: A Journal of American Women Writers, vol. 36, no. 1, 2019, pp. 153-55, accessible through Project Muse and JSTOR. This fall, Dr. Barrio will start implementing the new active-learning techniques she learned in the Summer Institute in the two classes she is teaching: Black Protest Literature and Approaches to Literature.

Starting this fall, Dr. Barrio will be one of the Co-Directors of the Academy for Teaching and Learning Excellence, conducting faculty workshops and organizing events to foster excellence in teaching and learning through sharing ideas, collaborating, and building a strong community of engaged teachers and learners.
