Marie Sandusky, Tara Kittrell (Psychiatric APRN), and Dr. Mike Kirk (Director of Counseling Services) presented a breakout session entitled “Collaboration Assessment and Care to Better Service College Students’ Mental Health Needs.”

Participation was lower than expected, however, Health Services will continue to use the web-based survey and refine the processes to attract a greater number of participants in the future.

Key Findings From Students at 糖心Vlog传媒LR:

• 54% of the students consumed alcohol in the past 30 days.
• 26% of the students under age 21 consumed alcohol in the past 30 days.
• 10% of the student are current marijuana users.
• Marijuana is the most frequently reported illegal drug used in the past 30 days.
• 67% of the students said they didn’t know if the campus had an alcohol and drug prevention program (this needs to change).

This year’s survey also addressed sexual behavior:

• 71% of the students reported engaging in sexual intercourse within the past year. Of these, 12% used alcohol the last time they had intercourse and 6% used drugs.
• 46% regularly engage in unprotected sexual activity with a single partner.
• 85% regularly engage in unprotected sexual activity with multiple partners.

Health Services utilized a paper patient satisfaction survey for most of the year. Overall, results showed that individuals were very satisfied with the accessibility to health care in terms of location, hours of operation and wait time. Respondents also commented that they were very pleased with the way they were treated by both the administrative and clinical staff. During the summer months, this survey shifted from paper to web-based and is now located on the Health Services website.

All facilities in the United States that perform laboratory testing on human specimens are regulated under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA). Health Services is CLIA certified for waived tests and Provider Performed Microscopy Procedures. Proper documentation and record keeping is an important element of good laboratory practices. The practice in Health Services is that all labs must be logged in and checked off when the results arrive. Health Services was 100% compliant in this area – all labs and their associated results were logged and the provider had initialed as reviewed.

A HIPAA risk assessment was conducted to determine administrative, physical, and technical safeguard compliance within Health Services. All items posing a high threat were addressed immediately. As part of the risk assessment, Charlotte Beck, HIPPA Compliance Officer, came up with a HIPAA “mascot” for Health Services. “HILDE-G糖心Vlog传媒RD, the HIPAA Compliance Troll” makes surprise appearances and leaves notes when she finds areas that need improvement. Staff awareness of HIPAA has been heightened by HILDE-G糖心Vlog传媒RD’s visits and reminders.
