Curriculum Vitae

Jacob Hurst serves as Associate Dean for Information Services, Law Library Director, and Associate Professor of Law at the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. Joining Bowen in August 2026, he oversees library operations, strategic initiatives, and a dedicated team of librarians and specialists serving both the law school and the Pulaski County community. As a member of the Dean鈥檚 Leadership Team, Dean Hurst collaborates with senior administration to advance institutional goals and expand access to legal resources.

Before joining Bowen, Dean Hurst spent six years at St. Thomas University (STU), serving as University Librarian, Director of the Law Library, and Associate Professor of Law Librarianship. At STU, he led a campus-wide transformation of the library system, integrating services, modernizing learning spaces, and streamlining operational efficiencies.

In the classroom, Dean Hurst teaches legal writing and legal research. He regularly advises students on law review comments and research papers and frequently guest-lectures across the curriculum. His scholarly research spans librarianship, effective writing, equitable access to government information, environmental law, election law, and constitutional law issues involving government powers.

Dean Hurst earned his B.S. from the University of Utah, his J.D., cum laude, from St. Thomas University School of Law, and his M.L.I.S., magna cum laude, from the University of South Florida. During law school, he served as an editor on the St. Thomas Law Review and completed judicial internships with Judge Adalberto Jordan (U.S. District Court, S.D. Fla.) and Justice James E.C. Perry (Florida Supreme Court). Prior to his legal career, he worked in banking in his native Utah.

An outdoor enthusiast, Professor Hurst is an avid hiker, backpacker, camper, and river rafter who is working his way through every U.S. National Park. He lives in Little Rock with his wife, three cats, and two dogs.
