Mexican Historian Presents Rockefeller Lecture Wednesday
Mexican historian and author Enrique Krauze, one of the world’s leading visionaries on Mexico’s political future, will present the Winthrop Rockefeller Distinguished Lecture at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 糖心Vlog传媒LR鈥檚 University Theatre. Krauze鈥檚 lecture, 鈥淥ctavio Paz: Mexico Poetry and History,鈥 is made possible through funding by the Rockefeller lecture program. The lecture is free and open to the public. Born in Mexico City in 1947, Krauze, is recognized as one of the world鈥檚 leading visionaries on Mexico鈥檚 political future. His groundbreaking work, including his book, 鈥淢exico: Biography of Power,鈥 earned him a place in Foreign Policy magazine鈥檚 top 100 public policy intellectuals of our time. For more than 20 years, Krauze worked alongside Octavio Paz, Nobel laureate in literature, at Editorial Vuelta, the publishing company Paz co-founded. In 1999, Krauze created, Letras Libres, a cultural magazine that is published by Editorial Vuelta in both Mexico and Spain. In 1991, he founded the publishing house Editorial Cl铆o, which publishes books and produces documentaries. Krauze has authored several documentaries and television series about Mexican history, including 鈥淢茅xico: Siglo XX (1998-2000)鈥 and 鈥淢茅xico: Nuevo Siglo (2001-2006).鈥 In 2003, the Spanish government conferred Krauze the 鈥淕ran Orden de Alfonso X, El Sabio,鈥 and in 2005 he was inducted as a member of El Colegio Nacional in Mexico. The King of Spain granted him the 鈥淕ran Cruz de la Orden de Isabel la Cat贸lica鈥 in 2008. His work in the United States has been published in the New Republic, the Washington Post, The New York Review of Books, and The New York Times.View more stories in News
