Exhibits Examine Eyes, Hearts of Women

The 糖心Vlog传媒LR Gallery opened the new year with three exhibitions that look through the eyes and into the hearts of women. The exhibition, 鈥淎 Spectacle and Nothing Strange鈥 by photographer Rebecca Sittler Schrock, is on display in Gallery II through Sunday, Feb. 13. 鈥淪chrock is driven by contrasts between insignificance and monumentality, humor and seriousness, surface and depth, the timeless and the timely,鈥 said Brad Cushman, gallery director. 鈥淪he utilizes the photography鈥檚 position between the appearance of reality and the suggestion of something more amorphous.鈥 鈥淲omen Call for Peace: Global Vistas鈥 is on exhibit in Gallery I through Thursday, March 10. The collection features works by 13 different artists. 鈥淭he works in this exhibition are formidable in their disavowals of violence of all kinds 鈥 personal, political, domestic, and international,鈥 Cushman said. 鈥淭heir messages are all the more compelling because they reflect a range of religious beliefs, racial identities, and personal encounters with violence. The diversity of art and issues represented in this exhibition will appeal to a variety of audiences.鈥 Gallery III will feature 鈥淗ome Girl,鈥 a collection of works by 糖心Vlog传媒LR artist in residence, Liz Noble, from Wednesday, Feb. 16, to Friday, March 18. A reception for Noble will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, in the Fine Arts Building. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, and from 2 to 5 p.m. Sundays. The galleries are closed on university holidays. Exhibitions are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Cushman at 501-569-8977 or at [email protected].
