Campus Life Celebrates Black History Month
A lunchtime jazz concert in the Donaghey Student Center on Monday kicked off the month of activities celebrating Black History Month sponsored by the Office of Campus Life.
Dr. Tim Edwards, associate professor in the School of Mass Communication, and Ben Fry, general manager of , will screen and discuss the film 鈥溾�� starring Morgan Freeman at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in Room A of Ledbetter Hall in the DSC. Admission, pizza, and soda are free.
At 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, students can meet and mingle with the cast of the Arkansas Repertory Theatre’s production of 聽鈥溾�� in Ledbetter Hall rooms A, B, and C. Dr. John Miller, assistant professor in the School of Social Work, is tentatively scheduled to moderate a discussion.
鈥淩OCK the Runway: Fashion Show with Korto Momolu” will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, in Ledbetter Hall Rooms A, B, and C.
Momolu, a finalist, left her native Liberia, West Africa, in 1990 and settled in Canada where she pursued her passion, and studied fashion design at the L’Academies des Couturiers Design Institute in Ottawa, Ontario.
After graduation, she moved to Arkansas with her husband to live and raise their daughter. Influenced by her African roots and inspired by rich fabrics, Korto began producing chic women鈥檚 wear and created a popular accessory line sold by .
At 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, the film 鈥溾�� will be screened and discussed in Ledbetter Hall Rooms B and C in the DSC. Free pizza and soda will be served. Admission is free.
The film is based on a play written by celebrated poet and playwright . A book signing and discussion with Shange will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, in DSC Ledbetter Rooms A, B, & C.
