Folk Artist Montgomery to Perform at Showcase
Visiting artist Bonnie Montgomery, author of a modern folk opera about Bill Clinton鈥檚 early life, will perform at the spring Songwriter鈥檚 Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building. Montgomery is an Arkansas native with a performance repertoire that showcases both her classical opera training and her honky-tonk roots. She has written a modern folk opera, 鈥淏illy Blythe,鈥 about President Bill Clinton鈥檚 youth that blends these two genres.
Montgomery has appeared on MSNBC, in The New Yorker, the Huffington Post, the New York Observer, and Time magazine.
The program for Montgomery鈥檚 performance, 鈥淎n Evening of Art Song and Arias,鈥 will include 鈥淎 Greek Beginning鈥 and 鈥淒eath Row Love and Marriage鈥 from the art song cycle 鈥淲est Memphis Three.鈥 Other pieces include 鈥淓noch Arrives,鈥 鈥淗igh Noon” (from Montgomery鈥檚 鈥淏illy Blythe鈥), 鈥淪pill,鈥 鈥淐ut You a Check for Your Time,鈥 and 鈥淩ecession Song.鈥 View more stories in News
