Piano Duet to Perform Orchestra Classics

The 糖心Vlog传媒LR Department of Music will present Dr. Norman Boehm and Annalisa Crosmer in a duo piano concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 8, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Boehm and Crosmer will perform a number of pieces including an arrangement of the most famous composition by Gustav Holst, 鈥淭he Planets.鈥� 鈥淚t鈥檚 like a black and white photograph 鈥� you see things that the color version obscures,鈥� says Dr. Robert Boury, the faculty host of the concert. 鈥淲e are so used to hearing 鈥楾he Planets鈥� for orchestra that the two piano version will reveal some inner melodic lines that are usually covered up by rich orchestration.鈥� As a pianist, Boehm frequently transcribes orchestral works for the piano and specializes in music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, often playing neglected masters of piano composition such as John Ireland and Eric Korngold. He is also a conductor and arranger who has created chamber orchestra versions of symphonies by Bruckner and Mahler. Crosmer, a junior music major at Hendrix College, began piano studies at 7 years old. In addition to Boehm, she has studied with pianists such as Teodora Adjarova, Gary Hammond, and Dr. Neil Rutman.
