Bowen law students honored for public service work in the community
Several students from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law are being recognized for their numerous hours of public service during the 2019-20 academic year.
A Bowen student who completes 100 hours of public service during a 12-month period in which the student is in good standing at the law school is awarded a Dean鈥檚 Certificate of Public Service. A student who completes 300 hours of public service during a 12-month period is awarded the Dean鈥檚 Certificate of Distinguished Public Service. These hours are completed outside of the students鈥 normal educational, career, and family responsibilities.
Bowen students who earned a Dean鈥檚 Certificate for Public Service include Edith Chavez De Oseguera of North Little Rock and Shaquika Randolph of Little Rock.
鈥淭here is nothing more fulfilling than helping someone,鈥 Chavez De Oseguera said. 鈥淧ublic service is important to build a stronger and more equitable community鈥
Bowen students who earned a Dean鈥檚 Certificate of Distinguished Public Service include Pamela Davis of Benton, Adam Rose of Little Rock, and Madhav Shroff of Hot Springs.
鈥淧ublic service is one of Bowen鈥檚 core values,鈥 said Theresa Beiner, Bowen鈥檚 dean. 鈥淭he goal of this program is to make students more aware of community service opportunities and encourage students to make service a part of their professional lives.鈥
Some of the projects and organizations Bowen students volunteer at include: immigration rights, My G.I.R.L.S., Saline/Perry County Foster Parent Association, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Center for Arkansas Legal Services, and the Junior Auxiliary of Saline County.
