Adesoba selected for data science internship at IBM]]> Adeola Adesoba, a graduate student at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, has been selected for a competitive summer internship with IBM.听 Adesoba will work as a cognitive engineer/data science graduate intern with IBM鈥檚 Global Business Services Team from June 1 to Aug. 13. 鈥淚BM is such a large tech organization,鈥� Adesoba said. 鈥淏eing recognized as someone with the skills they are looking for made me excited. As a data scientist, I will utilize IBM鈥檚 technologies to build solutions for the world鈥檚 most difficult challenges and help our clients do the same.鈥� As an intern, Adesoba will be responsible for successful delivery of data science solutions and services in a client consulting environment. She will lead strategy discussions and help to design and develop a solution that meets client鈥檚 goals and outcomes. She will also define key business problems to be solved and formulate mathematical approaches and gather data to solve those problems. Adesoba is a native of Nigeria who is pursuing a M.S. in information quality. After graduating with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in statistics from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria, Adesoba worked as a credit risk analyst with Nigerian banks before joining 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. She is also a graduate research assistant with the Collaboratorium for Social Media and Online Behavioral Studies (COSMOS) and a Devops engineer intern with nClouds. Adesoba is planning to graduate in December. 鈥淚 believe the internship will be a stepping stone for me as a data scientist,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 am very excited and grateful for the opportunity. Acxiom Awards 3 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Students Diversity Scholarships]]> Three University of Arkansas at Little Rock students have been selected as nationwide winners of Acxiom鈥檚 Diversity Scholarship Program.听 The 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock student winners include Adeola Adesoba, a graduate student in information science from Nigeria, Grace Crossette-Thambiah, a doctoral student in computer and information science specializing in data quality from Los Angeles, and Gabrielle Wilber, a junior business information systems major from Little Rock. The Acxiom initiative offers $5,000 scholarships to U.S.-based students from diverse backgrounds who are enrolled in a full-time post-secondary technology degree program. The program encourages women, veterans, minorities and individuals with a disability to apply for scholarships to support the next generation of technology talent. “We congratulate our scholarship recipients on this exciting accomplishment,” said Acxiom CEO Chad Engelgau. “This scholarship program represents Acxiom’s continued commitment to helping the next generation of leaders pursue their dreams through computer science and information technology careers. It proves that I am on the right track. It gives me inspiration to continue my education. It took courage to transition into the tech industry. As much as everyone can dream, it makes my dreams come alive all the more by being selected for this scholarship.鈥� The New Face of Tech Scholarship Program is intended to fund and fuel the aspirations of talented female college students pursuing careers in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). When more women are working in STEM, those barriers are broken down, and doors will open for younger women to enter the STEM field. Women have a lot to contribute to the STEM field. By giving a lift to the dreams of women and girls, it provides opportunities for others to be inspired.鈥� After she graduates with her master鈥檚 degree in December, Adesoba plans to earn a doctorate as well as pursue her professional dream to become a data scientist/data governance expert who helps businesses and organizations solve complex problems with data and machine learning techniques while also using technology for social good. 鈥淚 want every other international student to know that there are a lot of opportunities around you,鈥� Adesoba said. 鈥淟ook at what communities can help you with your academic pursuits and career goals.
