糖心Vlog传媒LR senior Waynette Lochridge Franklin first took the Compass Test to enter a two-year college program several years after graduating from Fordyce High School.

A scholarship helped offset the cost of college for Franklin.

Several academic scholarships are available for incoming students with the right qualifications, but the final application deadline is fast approaching and must be received by Feb. 1.

Some of the 糖心Vlog传媒LR academic scholarships for new students include the Chancellor鈥檚 Academic Distinction, 糖心Vlog传媒LR Academic Achievement, Freshmen Award, Engineering and Information Technology scholarship, and the Shelby Breedlove Transfer scholarship.

Feb. 1 is also the priority or preferred deadline for Donaghey Scholars, Chancellor鈥檚 Leadership Corps, and East Scholars.

Spring admission deadlines:

New to this open house will be a scholarship giveaway. The Discover 糖心Vlog传媒LR photo challenge will include scholarship prizes: $1,000 for the overall winner and five $250 awards for the runners-up. Additionally, three $500 scholarships will be given away at a morning drawing.

• Entering freshmen should submit their application and credentials for admission to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15.
• All other undergraduates must submit admission applications by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22. That also is the deadline for 糖心Vlog传媒LR employees to submit their tuition discount forms to the Provost Office.
• Applications for graduate programs are due by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29. 聽Application deadlines for graduate programs vary, so prospective students should check with their departments for details.

• See an academic advisor prior to registration. Advising is mandatory for most students.
• Early registration began May 2 and will continue until 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17
• Regular registration runs Friday, Aug. 18, through 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22. This is the last chance for entering freshmen to register.
• Late registration is allowed from Thursday, Aug. 23, until 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, for a $100 late registration fee.

• Students seeking financial aid for the fall semester must complete the (FAFSA) forms and also should apply for assistance from the state by July 1, the preferred deadline. The final deadline is Nov. 1.

• Students registering from Jan. 9 to Jan. 23 must confirm their registration by Monday, Jan. 23.
• Once confirmed, students have until 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23 to withdraw and聽receive a 100 percent refund. After the Jan 23 deadline, the refund rate drops to 50 percent for students聽who withdraw by Jan. 30.
• Within 24 hours of registering for a class, students will receive a @ualr.edu email聽account. Check it – as well as the website –聽 for messages from the聽university. The website is the official source for inclement weather closings and聽more.

• The earlier, the better is the key to seeking financial aid. The spring priority聽deadline was Nov. 1, and Dec. 1 was the spring preferred deadline.
• The spring final deadline聽for financial aid is April 1. Miss this semester鈥檚 deadline? It鈥檚 not聽too soon to start applying for fall semester aid. Priority deadline for fall 2012聽financial aid is March 1.
