Faculty recital to feature saxophonist Andy Wen, pianists Robert Boury and Leann Hatley]]> The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host a faculty recital featuring associate professor on saxophone and recently retired music professor Robert Boury and guest pianist Leann Hatley on piano.聽 The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Fine Arts Building. The event is free and open to the public. The program includes 鈥Concertino da Camera鈥 by Jacques Ibert, 鈥淭he Nouvelles Etude Variees鈥 by Jean-Marie Londeix, Jeanine Rueff鈥檚 Concertino, Op. 17, and Improvisation 3 by Ryo Noda. Following the intermission, the concert will continue with the world premiere of 鈥淪epia Tone @ 27鈥 by L.A. Longrande, 鈥淔our Spanish Dances鈥 by Sy Brandon, Neil Flory鈥檚 鈥淎pparitions of Deep Memory,鈥 Boury鈥檚 2017 piece 鈥淒ialogue,鈥 and 鈥淩ock Me!鈥 by Barry Cockroft. More information about the musicians: Wen is an associate professor of saxophone and clarinet at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, a founding member of the Arkansas Saxophone Quartet, and plays principal alto saxophone in the Little Rock Wind Symphony. He earned his Doctor of Music Arts from the University of Georgia, studying saxophone with Kenneth Fischer and clarinet with Theodore Jahn. Wen鈥檚 performances have taken him to 25 states, Belgium, 聽Canada, China, France, Japan, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, and Thailand. He has performed concertos with bands and orchestras, solo recitals, and chamber concerts, and has released two CDs, “Apparitions” and “Apparitions 2,” with Emeritus Recordings. Boury, a professor of music history and composition who retired from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock in December, wrote the music for 鈥溙切腣log传媒LR Spirit,鈥 the university鈥檚 alma mater. Since 1986, Boury has hosted the annual Songwriters Showcase for students enrolled in his songwriting class and for songwriters in the community. He has also been a composer-in-residence in K-6 schools in North Little Rock as well as Booker T. Washington Elementary and Rockefeller Elementary schools in Little Rock and Mount St. Mary Academy. He has composed many art songs, piano and chamber pieces, three symphonies and most recently, three children’s operas. Currently, he is creating works based on the names of God in the Bible, titled 聽鈥淒ialogue.鈥 Hatley received her Bachelor of Arts 聽in piano and Bachelor of Science in printing management from Arkansas State University. She has accompanied numerous operas, musicals, choirs, and solo instrumentalists/vocalists throughout central Arkansas both in professional settings as well as in high schools and colleges. A collaborative pianist at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock since 2007, Hatley currently sings with the Arkansas Chamber Singers and is church pianist/organist at St. Anne鈥檚 Catholic, Christ Lutheran, and Park Hill Christian churches. Department of Music holds fall concerts]]> The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Music has an exciting line up of concerts this week to celebrate the holiday season.聽 Join the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Department of Music faculty for a Choral Ensembles Christmas Concert featuring songs of the holiday season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30. On Friday, Dec. 1, the Wind Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. The Wind Ensemble is composed of musicians from the university and the community and performs great classic literature for winds, transcriptions of the masters, and arrangements and compositions by 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock faculty and students. Additionally, the Community Orchestra, led by Victor Ellsworth, will hold a rousing performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3. This performance features music from the 18th century with a Mozart piano concert by four piano soloists, including Michael Caysido, Ethan Day, Eri Okawa, and Samuel Schalchlin. Associate Professor Andy Wen will delight audience members with a recital featuring Wen鈥檚 talent on the saxophone. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3.
