This group of players will join the program this summer and begin competing for Little Rock in the fall of 2019. “I am very pleased to announce our 2019 signing class,” Foster said. “The young ladies we have signed today are not only great soccer players, but more importantly, they are a wonderful group of girls. They have the right character and personality to fit in with the culture of excellence at Little Rock soccer, and help us build on the recent success in the classroom and on the pitch.” Bizzy Canada is a fullback from Plano Senior High School in Plano, Texas. She played for FC Dallas under coach Matt Veasey. Marthe Taugbol, a central midfielder, joins the Trojans as another international signing as she comes to Little Rock from the Norwegian College of Elite Sports. She played for her club FL Fart under Finn Willy Taugboel, Henrik Digernes and Inger Ane Hol. Kenedie St. Mary is a defender from The Woodlands High School in Texas. St. Mary played for Challenge Soccer Club under Russell Gee and Pat O’Toole. Mari Young comes to Little Rock from Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School in Ontario, Canada as yet another international player signs with the Trojans. She is a forward who played for Burlington Youth Soccer Club under Casey Downey, Dino Colarossi and Alex Mickalow. Maddy Peake is a forward from McKinney High School in Texas. She played for Solar Soccer Club under Volkan Ozcomert. Jessica Carmichael joins the Trojans as a forward from Dripping Springs High School in Texas. She played for the Austin Texas 00G under JD Cochran. Aislyn Sullivan is a midfielder from Oceanside Collegiate Academy in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Sullivan played for United Soccer Academy Mount Pleasant under Kian Brownlee. Coming from Keller, Texas is forward Julia Edwards. She lettered at Keller High School and played for FC Dallas ECNL under coach Dan Mariscal. Ziva Payer, a forward, will also to Little Rock from Dripping Springs High School in Texas. Trojans will take on Razorbacks for first time in program history]]> For the first time in program history, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of Arkansas teams will face each other during the upcoming season. The Trojans will battle the Razorbacks on April 2, 2019, at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville. This will be the first time the Razorbacks will host a fellow University of Arkansas system school in baseball. The Razorbacks will also host the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions on April 16. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is coming off a 28-win season in 2018, its best record since 2013. The team advanced to the second round of the 2018 Sun Belt Conference tournament after spending the majority of the regular season in first place in the Sun Belt West Division. Nearly the entire Little Rock roster will remain intact heading into 2019, losing just three seniors from the 2018 squad. Little Rock head coach Chris Curry is a former assistant under Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn. Van Horn enters his 17th season at the helm of the 糖心Vlog传媒 baseball team and is coming off his best season as head coach. He guided the Razorbacks to their ninth College World Series and a national runner-up finish for the second time in school history. Arkansas finished 2018 with 48 wins. The Razorbacks hosted its seventh NCAA Regional and third Super Regional tournament in school history at Baum Stadium. 鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting to have Little Rock and Arkansas-Pine Bluff as part of our 2019 non-conference schedule,鈥 Van Horn said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 going to be great for the game of baseball in our state. Trojans announce 2018-19 women’s golf schedule]]> 聽has released the Trojans’ 2018-19 schedule, a slate which takes Little Rock to six different states and includes the Trojans’ annual home meet in Hot Springs Village. Little Rock opens the season with a pair of events in September, beginning with the Missouri State Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Missouri, Sept. 10-11. The Trojans then head east to North Carolina for the East Carolina Pirate Collegiate Classic, being held Sept. 17-18 in Greenville. October brings three tournaments to Little Rock’s schedule, beginning with a return trip to Missouri for the annual Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by Missouri, Oct. 1-3 in Columbia. The Trojans then make the first of three trips to Texas Oct. 22-23, competing in the first UT-Arlington Women’s Golf Classic in Mansfield. Little Rock then returns to Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village for the annual Little Rock Women’s Golf Classic Oct. 28-30. The event will bring 15 teams to compete in what has become one of the favorite events of the season for those who compete. It will also mark women’s golf’s competition for the newly-created Governor’s I-40 Showdown against Central Arkansas. Following a three-month hiatus, Little Rock begins the spring portion of its schedule in Texas, competing in the Texas State Invitational in San Marcos Feb. 11-12. The Trojans then make their annual trip to Rio Verde, Arizona, for the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, being held Feb. 22-24. Two tournaments await Little Rock in the month of March, beginning in Dade City, Florida, for the Spring Break Shootout, hosted by Western Kentucky, taking place March 11-12. Little Rock then makes its final trip to the Lone Star state March 18-19, taking part in the Houston Baptist Husky Invitational in Houston. April begins with the Trojans’ final regular season tune-up as Little Rock will make the short drive up I-40 to Memphis, Tennessee, for the Memphis Tiger Invitational April 1-2. That leads into the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Championship April 15-17, being held at the LPGA Invitational in Daytona Beach, Florida. Three of the regular-season meets will occur in Arkansas while the fourth will happen in Tennessee. Like the 2017 season, the Trojans will begin the season at the Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 1 in Memphis, Tennessee. The action will get underway at 9 p.m. as the men battle a four-mile course while the women take on a 5K. The following Saturday on Sept. 8, Little Rock will make the short trip up to Conway for the UCA XC Challenge. Last year,聽聽won the men’s portion of the meet while聽聽was the Trojans’ top finisher for the women as she placed eighth. Times for the meet have yet to be announced. After a two-week break, Little Rock will head to Fayetteville for the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on Sept. 22. The men’s 8K will get underway at 9:30 a.m., and the women’s 5K will start at 10:20 a.m. With three weeks to prepare, the Trojans will finish the regular season by hosting the Little Rock Invitational on Oct. 13 at the Rebsamen Park Golf Course in Little Rock. The men’s 8K will begin at 10 a.m. while the women’s 5K will start at 10:45 a.m.聽聽will look to defend her crown as she won the women’s event last season. After concluding regular-season action at home, Little Rock will head to Mobile, Alabama, for the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Oct. 27. The fall begins back-to-back trips to Texas, beginning Sept. 10-11 at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, hosted by UT-San Antonio. Little Rock then returns to the Lone Star state Sept. 23-25, participating in the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, hosted by SMU. The Trojans will make the first of two trips to Florida this season Oct. 14-16, competing in the Quail Valley Collegiate in Vero Beach in an event hosted by McNeese. Little Rock closes out the fall portion of its season with the annual home event, hosting the Little Rock Invitational Oct. 22-23 at Chenal Country Club. The Trojans have won the event in each of the past two seasons and will take aim for a threepeat when it welcomes over a dozen schools to central Arkansas. After a three-month hiatus, Little Rock returns to action with a pair of trips out west, beginning with the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson Jan. 28-29. The Trojans will then make their annual trip to Palm Desert, California, for the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Feb. 22-24. Little Rock’s third trip to Texas opens the month of March, making its annual trip to Laredo for the Border Olympics March 11-12. The Trojans then head south to Lake Charles, Louisiana, taking part in the McNeese Lake Charles Invitational March 18-19. The final month of the season begins in the Pacific Northwest as Little Rock returns to University Park, Washington, participating in the Seattle Redhawk Invitational April 1-2. The Trojans then head to Mississippi for the final tournament of the regular season, competing at the Old Waverly Intercollegiate, hosted by Mississippi State, April 15-16 in West Point. Little Rock then heads to Destin, Florida, for the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Championship, being held April 21-24. Asa Hutchinson. “The Showdown no doubt will boost interest in all 11 sports designated for the competition and will encourage the athletes by showing their fans are behind them. And this rivalry will give the universities another platform to promote their academic programs to recruit new students.” While these two Division I institutions, separated by just 30 miles, have competed against each other for decades, the newly-formalized rivalry will ensure the Bears and Trojans continue their rivalry in all sports that are mutually sponsored by both institutions. “This really promotes the spirit of in-state competition,” said Little Rock Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics聽Chasse Conque. “It really promotes these two fine institutions and our athletic programs, but really our student-athletes. We promote the entire student-athlete and this gives us another avenue to showcase their successes.” “There are other Division programs in other states that do something similar, and we think it just makes sense,” said Central Arkansas Director of Athletics Brad Teague. “In-state competition just makes sense, and why wouldn’t we want to do this? It’s a big time announcement, and we’re proud of it.” As part of the Governor’s I-40 Showdown, Little Rock and Central Arkansas will compete on the fields of play each year across 11 sports. The Bears and Trojans will meet annually in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s golf. Each head-to-head competition will have a pre-determined point value for the winning team. The university that accumulates the most points during the athletic season will have its name permanently engraved on the Governor’s Trophy 鈥 a traveling trophy that will reside on the reigning champion’s campus the following year. The Governor’s Trophy will be presented at the final competition between the two schools, which is the annual baseball game played at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock. The first head-to-head meeting between the two schools as part of the Governor’s I-40 Showdown will take place Friday, August 17, when UCA and Little Rock meet in women’s soccer at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex in Conway. Of the 29 matches, 12 of those will come against teams that finished in the top 150 of last year’s RPI. Two of Little Rock’s opponents were NCAA Tournament participants last season while three others participated in the NIVC Tournament. “We have a good strength of schedule this season,” Compton said. “That’s always good to me because it prepares you for postseason opponents. We’re on the road for the first month during non-conference play, and I think that will prepare us for playing our nine road matches in Sun Belt play. We do the same thing in non-conference play most years, and I believe that makes us a better team on the road.” Little Rock will begin the season with the Jacksonville State Invitational in Jacksonville, Alabama, on Aug. 24-25. The Trojans will face Division I newcomer North Alabama in the first match of the season before taking on Mercer later in the day. Little Rock will round out the tournament with matches against host Jacksonville State and Lamar in the second day of action. On Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, Little Rock will take part in the Rebel Invitational in Oxford, Mississippi. The Trojans will face Lamar in the first day of competition before turning their sights to Southern Miss and Ole Miss on the second day. For the second consecutive year, Little Rock will head to Conway for the UCA Invitational Sept. 6-8. The tournament will begin with the Trojans facing the host Sugar Bears on Sept. 6. Little Rock will then face 糖心Vlog传媒PB on Sept. 7 before wrapping up the tournament against South Dakota on Sept. 8. Little Rock’s final non-conference tournament will take them to the Big Easy for the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Volleyball Classic at Tulane on Sept. 14 and 15. The Trojans will face the host Green Wave in the first match of the tournament before turning their attention to Clemson later in the day. Little Rock will conclude its non-conference schedule against Villanova on the final day of competition. The Trojans’ home opener and conference opener will take place on Sept. 21 against South Alabama. Little Rock will conclude the opening weekend of Sun Belt action by hosting Troy on Sept. 22. After their first two matches at home, the Trojans will begin a four-match road trip on Sept. 28 at Texas State. Little Rock will close out its tour of the Lone Star State by visiting UT Arlington on Sept. 29. Little Rock will continue its road trip by visiting the Carolinas the following weekend. The Trojans’ first stop will take place at Appalachian State on Oct. 5 and will conclude at Coastal Carolina on Oct. 7. After the long road trip, the Trojans will make a quick stop at home to face Louisiana on Oct. 12 and ULM on Oct. 13. Little Rock will then have a week to prep for its first rivalry match at Arkansas State on Oct. 20. The three-match road trip will continue on to the Peach State as the Trojans face Georgia Southern on Oct. 27 and Georgia State on Oct. 28. After its swing through Georgia, Little Rock will come home for its final three home matches of the season. The event proved to be a great success last year with a large contingent of Trojan fans joining the department downtown. Little Rock will once again team up with 103.7 The Buzz that evening as part of the station’s afternoon show “Drive Time Sports,” broadcasting live on site from the downtown event. Hosted by Randy Rainwater, a number of Trojan head coaches will be featured during the show from 4-7 p.m. that evening. The Trojans will be represented by student-athletes and coaches from its athletic programs, as well as the Little Rock dance team and pep band. The event will provide opportunities for fans to take pictures and get to know their favorite Little Rock student-athletes. In addition, the downtown bridges will be lit maroon that night to help promote Little Rock’s team. Trojans earn Team Academic Award for 13th time]]> This is the eighth time in the last nine years that Little Rock has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award. The Trojans first earned the award for the 1997-98 academic year. The Trojans were one of 164 Division I teams to earn the honor as they posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.35 through the 2018 spring semester. In the Sun Belt Conference, Little Rock was one of five teams to earn the award, including Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, and ULM. The Trojans were also one of 19 Division I teams that met their Dig Pink fundraising goal while earning the Team Academic Award. Funds raised benefited the Side-Out Foundation which sponsors the development of treatments and clinical trials for individuals with stage IV breast cancer. Across all levels and divisions, 973 teams earned the AVCA Team Academic Award 鈥 a number that broke last year’s record of 835. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.3 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.1 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. The AVCA Team Academic Award is the single largest award offered by the number of schools, players, and coaches honored. Since the 2000-2001 season, the number of recipients has increased every single year but two, while amassing a 619-team increase over the span of the last decade. Since the award’s inception in 1993, the amount of award winners has increased from 62 to its current number of 973.
