Marquisa Wince awarded B.A. Rudolph Scholarship]]> Marquisa Wince, a Juris Doctor candidate at the William H. Bowen School of Law and a Master of Public Service candidate at the , has received the B.A. Rudolph Scholarship at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service.

The B.A. Rudolph Foundation awards the $12,000 scholarship annually to a woman who is a rising second-year student at the Clinton School of Public Service and who best embodies the mission and values of the foundation. The established the scholarship in 2015 in honor of the organization鈥檚 namesake, B.A. Rudolph, a 1978 graduate of the University of Arkansas and a member of Bill Clinton鈥檚 gubernatorial and presidential staffs.

鈥淟ike B.A., Marquisa is bold, progressive, compassionate, and fully committed to public service,鈥 said Mary Bruce, executive director of the B.A. Rudolph Foundation. 鈥淲e are proud to support Marquisa as a student and a change maker in her work to reform structures, systems, and institutions that pose a threat to justice. We applaud her work to advocate on behalf of communities that are often overlooked and under-resourced.鈥

Wince earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in economics and sociology at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, where she focused her research on the economic impact of black male incarceration and public school privatization. From 2016-2017, Wince was an AmeriCorps member in Wisconsin with Public Allies, where she acted as a housing and family law advocate and worked to create a just and equitable society.

Wince also has conducted graduate-level research for the Republic of Kenya鈥檚 Probation and Aftercare Services Department and Phoenix Youth and Family Services. Her public service interests include legal advocacy, human rights, civil rights, LGBTQ+ rights, youth advocacy, and advocacy for communities of color.

鈥淢arquisa is an excellent example of our students鈥 commitment to Bowen鈥檚 core values of public service, professionalism, and access to justice,鈥 said Theresa M. Beiner, dean of the law school.

Bowen law student named to Next Generation Delegation for Global Food Security Symposium]]> Alexander, of Waldron, Ark., is one of 27 students selected from colleges and universities throughout the United States and around the world. She is the only student representing an Arkansas college or university. “It is an honor to be selected as one of the 27 Next Generation Delegates to the 2018 Global Food Security Symposium,鈥 Alexander said. 鈥淕rowing up on a small farm, I have always believed in the power of agriculture to transform and empower lives. The Chicago Council on Global Affairs recognizes the importance of advancing global food security and nutrition in the face of challenges such as urbanization, climate change, and new technologies. As a delegate, I look forward to working with and learning from students, speakers, storytellers, and innovators from across the world who believe in agriculture鈥檚 promise to feed an ever-growing population.” The two-day event will be hosted at Atrium Hall in the Ronald Reagan Building. Prior to a full day of presentations and a report release on聽March 22, the Council will offer solution sessions to engage in dialogue with global partners. The events will be聽. Last summer, Alexander traveled to Tokyo, Japan, for her International Public Service Project with the Foreign Agricultural Service, which links U.S. agriculture to the world to enhance export opportunities and global food security. She is completing her final Clinton School field service project with the Association of Arkansas Counties. Alexander earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in agriculture, food, and life sciences at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She is currently pursuing a concurrent juris doctor at the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. She is the 2017-18 recipient of the B.A. Rudolph Scholarship. This scholarship is annually awarded by the B.A. Rudolph Foundation, a Washington D.C.-based charitable nonprofit whose mission is to advance and benefit young women interested in public service through educational, financial, and professional support.  ]]>
