They also listened to a dual interview with author Janis Kearney about her book, 鈥淥nly on Sundays: Mahalia Jackson’s Long Journey鈥 and K糖心Vlog传媒R’s News Director Michael Hibblen about the state of local news and reporting in central Arkansas. The Friends of KLRE/K糖心Vlog传媒R Board serves as a non-governing, advisory organization to support fundraising and volunteer activities for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Public Radio. The new board members who will serve three-year terms from 2023 to 2025 include Stephanie Alderdice, president of 61 Celsius; Jay Barth, director of the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum; Lamar Davis, counsel at Wright, Lindsey & Jennings; Kevin Jones, retired correctional officer; Eric McDaniel, senior manager at Acxiom; Kathleen McDonald, regulatory and compliance officer at Aristotle Unified Communications; and Ruth Sheppard, retired executive director of Just Communities of Arkansas. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Public Radio would also like to thank Board Members Bobbye Levy, Amanda Moore, and Quinten Whiteside who are concluding their service after six years on the board.

The online publication features articles about students, faculty, staff and events as well as a 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock in the News section. Faller also earned an honorable mention in the Specialty Articles, Travel category for her article 鈥淐oach Wylie Flies 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Flag on Mount Kilimanjaro.鈥 The piece is about Jenna Wylie, head women’s golf coach, who completed her goal of climbing the highest single freestanding mountain in the world. State awards were presented in May during a ceremony hosted by the organization鈥檚 Arkansas affiliate, Arkansas Press Women, at the Bailey Alumni and Friends Center. The national award-winning entries had previously placed first in the Arkansas Press Women鈥檚 2022 professional communications contest before advancing to the NFPW competition. BBQ at Bailey Celebrates 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Alumni Support and Fellowship]]> 鈥淲e didn’t get the chance to do it last year, so the goal is to welcome back people to the campus, get students to come out, get to know everyone in the alumni center, and get to know other graduates,鈥 said Derrick Newby, associate director for alumni membership and engagement. 鈥淭ypically, we do this at the beginning of the year but we had to push it back to make sure everyone was safe.鈥 The enjoyment for the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock fellowship was a constant trend in conversations at the BBQ. 鈥淚t is so great to see everyone back together for BBQ at Bailey to see all the students, teachers and alumni all coming together to rally around this amazing school,鈥 said Heide Harrell (鈥10), executive committee member of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Board of Directors. 鈥淲ho doesn鈥檛 love some free BBQ on a beautiful October day?鈥 Harrell has a deep passion for the work that the faculty provides and the caliber of students who work hard to get their degrees. 鈥淚 am a proud graduate and advocate for this university,鈥 said Harrell. Kristi Smith, director of alumni and development, indicated the importance of joining the Alumni Association because a portion of proceeds from memberships go towards student scholarships.

The BBQ highlights support for the Alumni Association, which annually offers around $100,000 in student scholarships, in addition to helping people create connections. During the BBQ, the Alumni Association recruited numerous new members. 鈥淭his event is important to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock because it鈥檚 a great time for everyone to come together,鈥 said Smith. 鈥淲e work in different areas and rarely get to see people due to the pandemic. Now that everyone is back on campus, this is a great unifying event.鈥 The favored fall event gathered around 1,200 people. 鈥淲e get student athletes to help; we get faculty and staff involved, and it’s great,鈥 said Smith. Career Services and other campus organizations attended the event to participate and raise awareness. 鈥淲e are promoting the Trojan Career Closet available for all students at the university,鈥 said Shannon Gwinn (98鈥), director of career services for the College of Business, Health, and Human Services. 鈥淲e want to make them aware of the fabulous items that they can come shop for. Whether you are going to a job interview and need a suit or need an outfit for an internship, we can help.鈥 The career closet has suits, sport coats, dresses, accessories, and plenty of ties. Students can select five items per year. It can be found on the first floor of the Reynolds Building.

After including it in their annual National Pan-Hellenic Council week of activities, several Greek groups participated in the luncheon. 鈥淭his event went well since it was my first time attending,鈥 said Kenyon Clay, sophomore criminal justice and music major and Kappa Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. president. 鈥淭his gave me motivation to finish college so I can come back and experience being an alumni. We added BBQ at Bailey to the event list because we believe NPHC should be more involved in campus events. We are here to show our support for them and hopefully gain support back.鈥 NPHC not only enjoyed the food but also the music as they simultaneously strolled to many songs played. 鈥淭he event today had a great turn out, good food, and great laughs,鈥 said Kevin Davidson, senior mechanical engineering technology major and member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. 鈥淚t was a good time to connect with friends and alumni. I know this will be an event that I will come back to as a future alumni.鈥 People can help 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock by joining the Alumni Association, contributing to annual fundraisers, making a donation, or putting the university in their estate plans, in addition to investing for their own financial goals. BBQ at Bailey was rescheduled from its original date of Sept. 8 due to the rising COVID-19 cases. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock will continue to monitor public health considerations surrounding the pandemic and post updates regarding the event. Hosted by the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Alumni Association, the picnic is a wonderful way for students, employees, alumni, and friends of the university to enjoy some great barbecue, fellowship, and fun. Whole Hog Cafe will cater the event. Longtime 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock supporter Ted Bailey passes away]]> The 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock community is mourning the loss of Dr. Howard Ashley Ted Bailey Jr., longtime supporter of higher education and pioneering physician, who passed away Jan. 21 in Little Rock at the age of 94.听 A reception in his honor will be held at the Country Club of Little Rock, 4200 Country Club Blvd., from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25. 听A private burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock. Dr. Bailey was a great man to whom we owe so much. His support lifted us to reach our full potential in so many places,鈥 said 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Chancellor Andrew Rogerson. 鈥淗is belief in the university still inspires our work to be world-class.鈥 Dr. Bailey was one of the university鈥檚 earliest supporters, having founded the Society of Philanthropy, a precursor to the current. The Bailey Family also facilitated the establishment of the Faculty Excellence Awards in 1988, an awards ceremony that recognizes the contributions of outstanding faculty members in teaching, research, and public service. The family also helped initiate the university鈥檚 Foundation Fund Board. In 2002, a generous gift from the Bailey Family Foundation began the construction of the Bailey Alumni and Friends Center, named after Dr. Bailey and Virginia, his wife of nearly 58 years who passed away in 2003. The Bailey family is a strong supporter of student scholarships, having created multiple endowed scholarships across disciplines and departments. In 2015, the Bailey Family Foundation made a direct gift of $2 million to support student scholarships. Christian O鈥橬eal, vice chancellor of University Advancement, expressed the university鈥檚 love and support to Dr. Bailey鈥檚 wife, Sharon; his five children, Mary Maude Shafer, Ted Bailey III, Jo Bailey McCray, John Bailey, and Amy Madeline Bailey; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. 鈥淚n a special tribute to Dr. Bailey and his wife Sharon, we honored them at the 2017 Taste of Little Rock event for their enduring support,鈥 O鈥橬eal said. 鈥淭he Bailey family legacy continues to serve the university, with Sharon serving on the ALL IN Campaign Steering Committee; son John Bailey as a member of the Board of Visitors; and son Ted Bailey III through his support of Trojan Athletics.鈥 Dr. Bailey was born in Little Rock in 1924 to parents H.A. Ted Bailey Sr. and Madeline S. Bailey. He graduated from Little Rock High School and received his M.D. degree from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine. He served as a medical officer during the Korean War. He began his private practice in otolaryngology but primarily practiced otology in Little Rock for more than 40 years, being the first physician in Arkansas to limit his practice to otology. His excellence as an ear surgeon was widely recognized, as were his many accomplishments in the medical field. He was the first physician to open an outpatient surgery center in the state. He was a pioneer in stapedectomy surgery, with one of the largest series in the United States, and developed new instruments and techniques for the procedure. He was also the first ear surgeon in Arkansas to perform cochlear implant surgery. Dr. Bailey was a clinical professor of otolaryngology at 糖心Vlog传媒MS throughout his career, head of the Division of Otolaryngology for a decade, and chief of staff at Baptist Hospital. He founded the Ear & Nose-Throat Clinic in Little Rock, now the Arkansas Otolaryngology Center, and served as its president and physician administrator until his retirement. Dr. Bailey was a man of many accomplishments who was deeply devoted to public service. He served on the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Foundation Fund Board and the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Board of Visitors in addition to numerous other organizations, including the Little Rock Rotary Club, Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, Union National Bank in Little Rock, Worthen Bank in Little Rock, United Way, YMCA, Little Rock Boys Club, Arkansas Arts Center Foundation, and Baptist Health Foundation. Leadership Lecture Series continues]]> The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Applied Communication will host the remaining components of its 2016-17 Leadership Lecture Series from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 and April 20. Both lectures will take place in the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Bailey Alumni and Friends Center. There is no fee to participate, although a $15 contribution is requested to cover the cost. To kick off the first evening, Thursday, Feb. 16, 听Dr. Linda Pledger, professor emeritus in the Department of Applied Communication, will be discussing conflict management in her lecture titled 鈥淢anaging Conflict Positively as a Transformational Leader.鈥 We seem to live in a world of conflict these days, whether political, personal or professional,鈥 Pledger said. 鈥淚t is critical that we engage in conversations about how to manage our conflicts more effectively, so that we maintain the dignity and integrity of all involved and find solutions for our most pressing conflicts. These discussions can build stronger relationships in all areas of our lives.
