The Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, native was the starting shortstop on the record-breaking 2019 team and broke the program record for sacrifice bunts with 28 in his career. Reyes started all 57 games and led the team in runs scored during his senior campaign. “It’s always gratifying when a player commits to you, stays loyal, and gives the program everything he’s got for four years,” Curry said. “Reyes set program records and brought the program to new heights. Moore was selected in the 14th听round (pick 410) by the Chicago White Sox, while Fidel was selected in the 23rd听round (pick 700) by the Cleveland Indians. Little Rock’s two draft picks make them the 24th听and 25th听in program history as the Trojans have now had a player drafted to the MLB in each of the past seven seasons as well as 13 of the last 14 seasons. Moore is a Keller, Texas native hailing from Keller Central High School. The right-handed pitcher threw 48.2 innings in his Little Rock career, racking up 47 strikeouts. In his first season as a Trojan in 2017, Moore held opposing hitters to a .143 batting average. The junior earned the nod in the Trojans’ 17-7 win over Arkansas on April 2, which was one of his seven starts in his collegiate career. Fidel is a Garland, Texas native who lettered at Naaman Forest High School. The junior was the Trojans’ Friday-night starter in 2019, earning First-Team All-Sun Belt honors for his outstanding season. Fidel led the Sun Belt in innings pitched (101) during the 2019 season and also finished third in the conference in both ERA (3.65) and strikeouts (101). Fidel received Sun Belt Player of the Week honors on May 14 for his masterful start against Texas State, throwing 124 pitches in nine innings, allowing just three runs and six hits on the night. He fanned 12 hitters, which tied a career high. The Trojan ace etched his name in the Little Rock record book in multiple categories. He is the third pitcher in school history to record 100 strikeouts in a season. Pittman recently broke Little Rock’s all-time record for career home runs, currently sitting at 25 for his career. The opening pitch for the Trojans Vs. Cancer will be at 2 p.m. on May 11 with a number of area children battling brain tumors and their families on hand to throw out the first pitch. Donations will be collected throughout the game as well, benefiting the Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Started by pediatric brain cancer survivor and former collegiate baseball player Chase Jones, Vs. Cancer empowers any sports team, any athlete, and any community to help kids with cancer. As a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Vs. Cancer proceeds help fund child life programs in local hospitals and groundbreaking research to cure pediatric brain tumors. “We applaud the efforts and generous spirit of the Little Rock baseball team,” said Tammy Bates, director of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s southeast region. “Vs. The competition will be tough as Little Rock will face five teams from Power-5 conferences as well as eight teams that appeared in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The 56-game schedule will feature 28 games at Gary Hogan Field, 26 road games and one game played at neutral site Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock. “We couldn’t be more excited about this 2019 slate,” Curry said. “It might be the best schedule we’ve ever had with eight regional teams that made the postseason and five Power-5 teams. We have a lot of home games and we’re really excited. I think this team is poised for this level of competition being that they are an older and experienced team.” Little Rock will open the 2019 season on Feb. 15 at Gary Hogan Field where they will host Creighton for the first game of a three-game series. The Trojans will then travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to meet Big-12 opponent and NCAA Regional participant Oklahoma State for a two-game set starting on Feb. 19. After taking on the Cowboys, Little Rock will return home for a three-game series with Evansville starting on Feb. 22 and the first leg of a home-and-home series with Louisiana Tech on Feb. 26.
