Everyone has a part to play in the mission of student success and, across the board, I can say that everyone at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is leaning into this effort. We look forward to working with these new students and helping them reach their full potential. This includes an unprecedented growth of 29 percent for first-time freshmen, while transfer students are up 8 percent and graduate students, 5 percent. 鈥糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is experiencing its largest percent increase in first-time freshmen and transfer students in over a decade,鈥 said Dr. Cody Decker, vice chancellor for student affairs and chief data officer. 鈥淚n addition to new student enrollment growth, student success measures continue to rise, with fall-to-fall retention improving from 65 percent to 75 percent. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock has a highly qualified incoming class of freshmen with an average high school GPA of 3.3 and average ACT score of 22.4.鈥 The positive increase in enrollment is attributed to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 focus on college affordability, the university鈥檚 investment in the learning and living environment, and a commitment to increasing student success. 鈥淲e have focused on making sure prospective students are aware of all the opportunities available at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, including the university鈥檚 competitive scholarship portfolio,鈥 said Decker. 鈥淔or example, one option for our incoming freshmen is a half-off tuition scholarship for eligible students. That scholarship supports our mission of making college accessible to Arkansans and was made possible by the generosity of an anonymous donor who gave the university $25 million dollars in 2020.鈥 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is also providing opportunities for nontraditional students to fulfill their goals of earning a college education. The university鈥檚 new corporate partnerships make it easier for working adults to go to school. Some of the new partnerships include the Amazon Career Choice Program as well as a tuition and fee discount for employees of CHI St. Vincent and Saline Memorial Hospital. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock saw a continued increase in graduate school education. The positive enrollment follows a 45 percent increase in graduate applications and 31 percent increase in admissions. The Department of Information Science saw the highest jump with an increase of 86 percent. Enrollment in history, computer science, art and design, and biology graduate programs were also on the rise.

With the university seeing a rise in enrollment in many programs in the Donaghey College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, this is an exciting time for STEM education at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. The university has exciting things in the works that will pave the way for STEM education for many years to come. “Graduate education continues to be a priority for many baccalaureate prepared students due to the value that a graduate degree brings,鈥 said Dr. Brian Berry, vice provost of research and dean of the Graduate School. 鈥淭his is particularly true in the fields of cybersecurity, information science, and information quality as evidenced by their significant growth this year. Growth in these areas is critical for developing the workforce needed to meet the demands of our growing, knowledge-based economy here in Arkansas and across the region.” The university has also worked to ensure prospective students know about the social and educational benefits of living on campus. The result has been an increase in housing occupancy by more than 11 percent over last year. 鈥淲e are excited to welcome so many new and returning students to our beautiful campus,鈥 said Patti Light, director of campus living. 鈥淲e have seen more students wanting the connection that living on campus brings. They are right where their friends and classes meet.鈥 Compared to the fall 2021 semester, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 overall enrollment is down 2.7 percent with a total enrollment of 8,103 for the fall semester. While overall enrollment is still down across many college campuses, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is outperforming its overall enrollment projections by about 3 percent. 鈥淎t 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, we have made it our mission to focus on providing the best college experience for our students,鈥 said Kindle Holderby, assistant vice chancellor of enrollment management. 鈥淲hether it鈥檚 a campus visit, attending orientation, or enrolling with an advisor, ensuring that students and their families have a positive experience will always be our top priority.鈥漖]>

University vice chancellors may approve larger event capacities after a review of safety protocols. Phase 4 continues with enhanced sanitation efforts but eases social distancing restrictions and removes limits on event sizes.聽 While 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock will continue to offer online and hybrid classes in the fall semester, the mix of face-to-face, online and hybrid courses will be similar to pre-pandemic offerings. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock will also resume face-to-face residential life activities. Doctoral student lands criminal justice faculty position in California]]> A University of Arkansas at Little Rock graduate will soon be sharing his knowledge of the criminal justice system with students on the west coast.聽 Dr. Marc Glidden, visiting assistant professor of criminal justice, graduated May 11 with a Ph.D. in criminal justice and a tenure-track assistant professor position at California State University, Northridge. 鈥淐riminal justice is such a developing field,鈥 Glidden said. 鈥淪ince it is such a new field of study, there will always be topics to be curious about.鈥 Glidden came to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock in 2013 to pursue his doctorate. He has taught for the Department of Criminal Justice since fall 2014 and adheres to a student-centered, high-impact approach, which emphasizes active learning, critical thinking, and learning assessments. 鈥淣ow that I鈥檝e graduated, I鈥檓 looking forward to having a successful career in academia by providing the mentorship and unique learning experience that I had throughout my education to my future students,鈥 he said. Since Glidden has a background in housing at East Carolina University and McKendree University, he was thrilled when an opportunity to work as the assistant director of student housing came up in 2014. He later served as the director of campus living and assistant dean of students from 2016 to 2018. 鈥淲ith my interest and passion in working for students, the ability to continue working in the classroom as an adjunct instructor and also work with students in housing provided me with the opportunity to work closer with 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students and to gain experience in the administrative part of the university as I continued to prepare to go into academia.鈥

The opportunity to participate in field research with criminal justice professors is an experience that Glidden says 聽greatly enhanced his career. 鈥淚 really appreciated the one-on-one mentorship with faculty in criminal justice and the experience to get to work with Tim Brown on hands-on fieldwork. We went to prisons to conduct surveys with inmates and to rural counties to interview gang members,鈥 Glidden said. 鈥淚 can talk about research all day, but understanding that experience of how we gain knowledge about these nuanced topics in criminal justice is a unique experience in itself. Having the experience of collecting my own data before I was a professor was very valuable.鈥 In his dissertation, 鈥淔orget the Olive Branch, What About the Bank Branch? An Examination of the Relationship between Financial Access and Community Crime,鈥 Glidden explored how access to banks and financial institutions in a community impacts the amount of crime from a social disorganization framework. 鈥淪imilar to churches, banks offer a platform for individuals within a neighborhood to engage in ways of forming bonds within the neighborhood,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he world runs on money. Money and currency are the basis of any society. Banks are still relevant, especially in rural communities.鈥 While Glidden has found that access to banks reduces crime rates in communities, he plans to conduct follow-up research to understand why. 鈥淎s the number of banks goes up, the amount of crime in a community goes down,鈥 he said. 鈥淢ore research is needed to know how. This has never been looked at before.鈥 As he gets ready to take the next step in life, Glidden is thankful for all the people who helped him succeed at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. 鈥淢y favorite part about 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is all the people I have met from colleagues in housing to students in the classroom to faculty in criminal justice,鈥 he said. 鈥淓ach has contributed to my success and my story at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock and has made it a positive experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.鈥]]>
