Presented by the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, the play will take place in Haislip Theatre in the Center for Performing Arts at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. The performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20-23. The final performance on Sunday, Oct. 24, will begin at 2:30 p.m. 鈥淏eckett鈥檚 Briefs鈥 includes the following shorts by Samuel Beckett: 鈥淨uad,鈥 鈥淎ct Without Words I,鈥 鈥淐ome and Go,鈥 鈥淩ough for Theatre I,鈥 鈥淧lay,鈥 鈥淎ct Without Words II,鈥 and 鈥淲hat Where.鈥 The production will also include an original piece, 鈥淔ortuit,鈥 by Katherine Greer and Stacy Pendergraft. Directed by Stacy Pendergraft, 鈥淏eckett鈥檚 Briefs鈥 presents seven short works by the legendary Irish playwright, Samuel Beckett. The pieces that were chosen for this production juxtapose the author’s physical and language-driven theatrical work, exploring the paths and patterns of the human experience. The production will feature unique portable structures and a blend of scenic and costume design created through shared research and brought to life by the student acting ensemble under the guidance of Technical Director Frank Mott and Costume Designer Don Bolinger. Presented with seating on all four sides, this unconventional production promises to pique your curiosity and challenge your preconceptions of theatre-making. The performers include Trystan Benson, a senior theatre major, Lexi Brooks, a sophomore dance and theatre major, Steven Dotson, a theatre major; Brayden Fitts, a senior theatre major; Margo Gifford, a theatre alum, Leonel Martinez, a freshman theatre major; Anthony Morris, a senior theatre major, and Essence Simon鈥檈, a senior theatre major. Tickets to 鈥淏eckett鈥檚 Briefs鈥 will be $5 for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students and employees and $10 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased online at or over the phone at 501-916-3291. Facemasks will be required. All ticket sales must be made in advance, and no tickets will be sold at the door. Ticket sales for each performance will end three hours before showtime. The ticketing software will automatically block out a seat on either side of you to allow for social distancing. The plays will be performed by 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students and produced by the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance. The performances include: Tuesday, March 3 – 鈥淓lliot, A Soldier鈥檚 Fugue鈥 by Quiara Alegr铆a Hudes. This play presents a lyrical and poignant account of three generations of military service within a Puerto Rican family. Wednesday, March 4 鈥 鈥淗ir鈥 by Taylor Mac. 鈥淗ir鈥 is an hysterical tragicomedy of suburban life in which a stay-at-home mom and her live-at-home transgender son upend the status quo of the nuclear family. Thursday, March 5 鈥 鈥淏ootycandy鈥 by Robert O鈥橦ara. 鈥淏ootycandy鈥 is an outrageous comedy centered around the coming-of-age experiences of a gay black playwright in a dysfunctional family in a dystopic world. BODYWORKS 2018 to showcase student, faculty choreography]]> Department of Theatre Arts and Dance will host its BODYWORKS 2018 spring dance concerts April 19-22 along with a master class for young dancers. This year鈥檚 concert spotlights the work of student choreographers whose work was selected for presentation at the American College Dance Association Conference, as well as faculty and guest artists. The series opens Thursday, April 19, with special guest , featuring the choreography of Michael Fothergill. A pre-show reception begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be hosted by Friends of the Arts, which provides scholarships to students who major in art, dance, music, and theatre. Guests are invited to stay for a post-show cake and punch reception to meet the choreographers, cast, and crew. As an added bonus, the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance extends free admission to the opening night performance to anyone who has spent time on or backstage in the University or Haislip Theatres. MT Stage: The Hamilton Experience]]> Jodie Mahony Center for Gifted Education at the University for Arkansas at Little Rock will offer a free musical theatre program inspired by the Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway hit 鈥淗amilton.鈥 鈥淢T Stage: The Hamilton Experience鈥 will take place June 25-29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the University Theater in the Center for Performing Arts. 鈥淗amilton is still the hottest ticket on Broadway,鈥 said Dr. Christine Deitz, associate director of the Jodie Mahoney Center for Gifted Education at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. 鈥淚t has contemporary themes that children can identify with. It has all the elements of a great performance and a message of compassion and perseverance with an overarching emphasis on citizenship.鈥 The Jodie Mahony Center for Gifted Education has applied for and received, for the second year, an The program is open to students who are currently enrolled in Grades 7-9 during the 2017-18 school year. Thirty students from across Arkansas will be selected to participate. MT Stage is a non-residential program and does not supply housing for participants. Participants will explore the historical, societal, and cultural themes behind 鈥淗amilton鈥 and will choose a focus area of musical theater: stagecraft or performance. In stagecraft, students will learn the technical aspects of a show from start to finish – including lighting, sound, and set construction. Students in the performance track will work with a musical director and choreographer. In the final showcase, students will perform selected scenes from 鈥淗amilton鈥 and have a talk-back session with audience members about their program experience. The play will be performed at 8 p.m. Oct. 5-8 and at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Center for Performing Arts University Theatre. Written by 惭辞濒颈猫谤别 and adapted by Richard Wilbur, the satire play is about people who use learning for social climbing and those who have given up love for intellectual pursuits. A family鈥檚 world is complicated by the desires of two lovers who would like to marry, but the couple鈥檚 plans are thwarted by the young woman鈥檚 jealous older sister, the former love interest of the young man. The sisters鈥 mother also has plans for her youngest daughter. She demands that her daughters dedicate themselves to intellectual pursuits. The mother worships the pretentious poetry of an outlandish social climber, whom she has identified as the perfect mate for her younger daughter. Tickets on sale for Ballet Arkansas Choreographic Competition]]> The performance will begin at 7 p.m. in the 糖心Vlog传媒LR Center for Performing Arts University Theatre. 鈥淰ISIONS: A Choreographic Competition鈥 was developed by Ballet Arkansas Artistic Director Michael Bearden, who wanted to give choreographers an opportunity to showcase their work on stage. The competition will feature the work of choreographers Caroline MacDonald, McCree O鈥橩elley, Jimmy Orrante, and Sanjay Saverimuttu. Emerging choreographers from around the country competed for four spots in the VISIONS competition. Three professionals in the dance community will judge the performances. Audience members will also vote for their favorite performance. The winner will receive a contract with Ballet Arkansas to expand his or her choreography and have it produced for a performance in Ballet Arkansas鈥 spring 2017 mixed repertory show.
