Concurrent Law Students Taking on Law Clerkships in Fall Semester]]> Students from the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law who are pursuing concurrent degrees with the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service are taking on clerkships, fellowships, and externships with law firms and judges this fall. Below is a closer look at their work. Mark Cameron is working with , assisting with cases primarily focused on defense litigation and transactional law. Corinne Kwapis is working with the . Kwapis is working directly with the public and cooperatively with surrounding police departments in handling misdemeanor criminal offense. Wes Manus is working with , an Arkansas-based financial services startup catering to the legal cannabis industry in Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Manus conducts research on securities, finance, business transactions, regulatory compliance, and public records to enable financial transactions for cultivators, dispensaries, research laboratories, and other businesses serving thousands of patients who benefit from the implementation of marijuana laws. Aisosa Osaretin is working with on researching and writing memos on policies and laws that affect the telecommunications industry, which helps assure the corporation is up to date with new laws and regulations. Osaretin also works to keep in touch with information concerning prosecutions of other members of the telecommunication industry. Alexis Pinkston is working as a law clerk at , which is a defense firm specializing in insurance issues. Pinkston conducts research, prepares lawsuit reports, and attends depositions and trials. Dillon Pitts is working in the Civil Department of the , specifically with the Assistant Attorneys General, researching legal issues, drafting legal memoranda, and reviewing documents for the State of Arkansas, its officers, boards, commissions, and employees.听 Madhav Shroff is working with , assisting in representing plaintiffs and defendants in employment law issues including wage and labor law disputes, FLSA violations, overtime issues, discrimination, sexual harassment, and more. Joseph Stepina is working in the Legal Defense Program, a service offered by the League whereby participating members can pool their resources and provide limited protection of city and employee assets. Members of the defense program are represented by the League in state and federal courts. Connor Thompson is working with the Defense Program as a litigation law clerk working in the Municipal Legal Defense Program in North Little Rock. The organization defends Arkansas municipalities involved in litigation. Thompson鈥檚 work consists of assisting the attorneys with legal research and drafting briefs and pleadings.听 Allison Tschiemer is working with the , a full-service firm that focuses on civil defense litigation and business transactions. Some areas of practice at the firm include product liability, malpractice, toxic torts, workers鈥� compensation, environmental and commercial litigation. This clerkship allows Tschiemer the opportunity to expand her legal research and writing skills in various areas of law.听 Jerome Wilson is working with the as a law clerk in the Complaints Department, where clerks are tasked with the role of taking complaints from the residents of Pulaski County. This clerkship requires interviewing residents regarding incidents of criminal nature and processing the complaints about misdemeanor offenses. Resident complaints usually result in one of the following solutions: no action, the delivery of a warning letter, or an affidavit for the associated offense. Bowen School of Law are among the 41 new students entering the Master of Public Service degree program this fall at the .听 The new Clinton students include six students who are a part of the concurrent Juris Doctor degree program with Bowen School of Law. They include Zach Baumgarten of Monticello; Corinne Kwapis of Fairview Heights, Illinois; Alexis Pinkston of North Little Rock; Damien Powell of Sparta, Michigan; Christian Scott of Mountain View; and Jerome Wilson Jr. of Portsmouth, Virginia, who graduated from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock with a degree in political science. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock graduates who are members of Clinton School Class of 2020 include Nathan Keltch of Little Rock, who graduated with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in business administration; Shandrea Murphy of Little Rock, who graduated with a degree in anthropology; and Ben Washington of Jacksonville, who graduated with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in anthropology. 鈥淲e鈥檙e very proud to welcome the new Clinton School class. As the nation鈥檚 first to offer a Master of Public Service degree, we continue to attract individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and interests, but with a common purpose to uplift others,鈥� said Clinton School Dean James L. 鈥淪kip鈥� Rutherford III. 鈥淥ver the next two years, the public service projects these students will complete in Arkansas and throughout the world will have a significant positive impact.鈥� Orientation for the new class began Aug. 12, and classes start Aug. 20. This fall, first-year Clinton School students will begin team-based public service projects with partner organizations in communities across Arkansas. In the classroom, the students will complete core courses in professionalism, social change, and conflict resolution. Throughout their time at the Clinton School, students will work on three public service projects within their particular public service interests: the team-based practicum project, the International Public Service Project, and the final individual project known as the capstone that culminates their degree. More information about the new Clinton School students: Zach Baumgarten 鈥� A graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello with a degree in politics, Baumgarten was an infantryman with the United States Army. He was the director of constituent services and campaign field director for congressman Mike Ross. He is pursuing a concurrent Juris Doctor at the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. His public service interests include veteran issues and poverty law. Nathan Keltch 鈥� Keltch earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree in business administration at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. He was the director of Recycle Bikes for Kids, a member of the Bicycle Friendly Community Committee, and a board member at Bicycle Advocacy of Central Arkansas. His public service interests include mass incarceration, transportation, climate change, and the future of jobs. Corinne Kwapis 鈥� Kwapis is a graduate of Marquette University with a degree in women and gender studies. She is pursuing a concurrent Juris Doctor at the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. Her work experience includes time with the League of Women Voters of Metro St. Louis. Her public service interests include government and legal aid. Shandrea Murphy 鈥� A graduate of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock with a degree in anthropology, Murphy has worked in multiple roles within the City of Little Rock Department of Community Programs. Most recently, she was a Family Engagement VISTA with Our House. Her public service interests include social and economic equity, education reform, social justice, and policy reform. Alexis Pinkston 鈥� A graduate of Lyon College with a degree in English and Spanish, Pinkston is pursuing a concurrent Juris Doctor at the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. She previously served at City Year Little Rock through AmeriCorps. Her public service interests include international relations, education, and criminal justice system reform. Damien Powell 鈥� Powell graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in cultural and global studies. He spent six years as a U.S. Air Force Intelligence analyst and is pursuing a concurrent Juris Doctor at the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. His recent work experience includes time with Vets for American Ideals and Human Rights First as a national security outreach intern. His public service interests include international development law, human rights, and civil rights. Christian Scott 鈥� A graduate of the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in history, Scott is pursuing a concurrent Juris Doctor at the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. She has worked as a law clerk at the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality and a licensure analyst for the Arkansas Department of Education.
