Fall Dance Festival set for Saturday, Nov. 21

High school students and other dancers, ages 10 and older, will participate in a dance workshop, including ballet, modern, and jazz styles. The workshop will be taught by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock dance faculty and hosted by the Department of Theatre, Arts, and Dance. Workshop check-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in the ��Vlog��ýLR Center for Performing Arts. Dinner will be served and provided to participants at 5:30 p.m. To end the festival, ��Vlog��ýLR dance majors will perform new works at 7 p.m. For more information on the Fall Dance Festival, click here. Annual fall dance concert starts Nov. 20

The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance will present its annual student-produced Fall Dance Festival concert beginning Thursday, Nov. 20, at the University Theatre of the ��Vlog��ýLR Center for Performing Arts. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students, seniors and ��Vlog��ýLR faculty and staff. Tickets are available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For reservations or information call the box office at 501.569.3456 or kethomas@ualr.edu. The concert, titled “7 Degrees of Separation,” features original works of choreography created and performed by bachelor of fine arts dance majors. The show offers a variety of styles and unique approaches to contemporary dance. Showtimes are:

Thursday and Friday, Nov. 20 and 21 • 8 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 22 • 7 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 23 • 2:30 p.m.

The department’s first production of the season, “Little Shop of Horrors,” will open Oct. 9 at the University Theatre. Annual Dance Harvest takes the stage Thursday

The ��Vlog��ýLR Department of Theatre Arts and Dance will present its annual Dance Harvest featuring the choreographic work of advanced choreography students this November. The performance is titled “Unbound.” The event runs from Thursday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 24, in the University Theatre located in the ��Vlog��ýLR Center for Performing Arts. Curtain times are 8 p.m. for Thursday and Friday performances, 7 p.m. Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors and ��Vlog��ýLR faculty, staff, and students. Super Saturday for High School Dancers

In addition to the Dance Harvest performances, on Nov. 23, ��Vlog��ýLR will present Super Saturday, a free event for high school dancers and theatre students. Check-in begins at 12:15 p.m. and will be followed by three workshop sessions lasting until 5:30 p.m. The event will give dancers and actors from across the region the opportunity to learn through master classes taught by ��Vlog��ýLR dance faculty. Students will then enjoy a group dinner and the evening performance of the 2013 Dance Harvest. Space is limited and registrations will be filled in the order they are received. Dance Scholarship Auditions Set For Feb. 3

Theatre and Dance Department will hold dance scholarship interviews and dance technique placement auditions for the 2012-2013 academic year from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the Center for the Performing Arts. All students must sign up for and schedule auditions and interviews before Feb. 3. Dancers interested in scholarships will participate in individual interviews and informational sessions with faculty. All dancers entering the program will take part in placement classes in both modern and ballet technique. Interested students should provide a letter of interest expressing educational goals, a brief resume of experience in theatre and dance, an official high school or college transcript, and one letter of recommendation. ��Vlog��ýLR Dancer Wins Fellowship

Stephanie Thibeault, director of the dance program at ��Vlog��ýLR, has won an Individual Artist Award from the . She and nine other artists will be honored at a luncheon at the 2010 statewide arts conference at noon Monday, Oct. 25, at the Peabody Hotel.

Thibeault earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., and a Master of Fine Arts degree in dance with an emphasis in choreography at the University of Maryland in College Park. She has also studied with the Joe Goode Performance Group in San Francisco, Calif.; Limon Institute in New York City; Parsons Dance Company in College Park, Md.; and Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York City. Thibeault has taught at numerous schools and universities in Kansas, Maryland, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Michigan. This year, the Arkansas Arts Council awarded nine artist fellowships worth $4,000 each. Fellowships are awarded annually to artists in Arkansas in recognition of their individual artistic abilities. The awards enable artists to set aside time for creating their art and improving their skills. Three artistic disciplines are selected each year as categories for the awards. The three categories for this year are dance choreography, literary non-fiction, and works on paper. The fellowship recipients were selected by a jury of out-of-state professional artists, writers, performers and art administrators.
