��Vlog��ý Little Rock to Celebrate Earth Day April 20

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is celebrating Earth Day with Teslas, a campus cleanup, energy-efficient giveaways, and an electronic recycling drive. The Earth Day celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in the Chi Omega Courtyard outside Ottenheimer Library. The Tesla Owners Club of Arkansas will be a new addition to the Earth Day festivities. The club will bring Tesla’s Model Y and Model S vehicles to campus for viewing. Keep Little Rock Beautiful is looking for volunteers to participate in a campuswide cleanup event. Participants should visit the Keep Little Rock Beautiful tent for trash grabbers and trash bags to collect litter on campus. Those who bring back their bags will receive a free t-shirt. Back by popular demand, the Sustainability Committee and Entergy are giving away free desk lamps with USB ports and smart power strips. Meanwhile, participants may drop off their electronics for a recycling drive in Lot 15. Additional vendors include Purely Essential 4 Life, Sacred Earth Gifts, ��Vlog��ý Little Rock Campus Garden, ��Vlog��ý Little Rock Wellness, Friends of Fourche Creek, Keep Little Rock Beautiful, Little Rock Wastewater Authority, Audubon Society, Arkansas Geological Survey, Calm +Confidence, and Houseplant Collection. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is celebrating Earth Day with a campus clean up, tours of the campus garden, and energy-efficient giveaways. Earth Day is Thursday, April 22, and this year’s theme is “Restore Our Earth.” Students, faculty, and staff are invited to the annual Earth Day 2021 Campus Clean-up from 3:30-5 p.m. Participants should meet at the ��Vlog��ý Little Rock Parking Deck Bridge near Lot 12. Bags and gloves will be provided. The event is hosted by the ��Vlog��ý Little Rock Sustainability Committee, Keep Arkansas Beautiful Foundation, and the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Research and Extension. Sustainability grant proposals accepted through April 12

The ��Vlog��ý Little Rock is accepting submissions of innovative research and teaching proposals for five grants of up to $2,500 toward the development and promotion of the principles of sustainability. The submission deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, April 12. All full- and part-time faculty, instructors, students, and staff may apply. Grant funds will be available for the 2021-2022 academic year and must be used by June 30, 2022. Funds may be used for travel, educational materials, equipment purchases, field trips, or guest speakers. Grant recipients are required to submit a written report at the end of the funding period and present a poster at the ��Vlog��ý Little Rock Earth Day Celebration on April 22, 2022. The University of Arkansas Little Rock Sustainability Committee invites faculty, staff, students, and members of the community to celebrate Earth Day on Monday, April 22. Festivities will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Donaghey Student Center mall area. Participants will be able to purchase various homemade items from vendors, including Carmen Farms, Global Ties of Arkansas, Little Brick Oven, Sacred Earth Gifts, Sardis Garen, and Treazure & Yummie Pralines. Michelle Butler, an administrative analyst in the College of Engineering and Information Technology, will sell Purely Essential Oils. Along with external vendors will be ��Vlog��ý Little Rock organizations, such as the Garden Alliance Club, Geology Club, and McNair Scholars. The Sustainability Committee will use the Trojan Transit to provide tours of the Campus Garden. Volunteers needed for Campus Day of Service

University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host a campus-wide day of service on Thursday, April 19, dedicated to sprucing up the campus grounds. The “Trojan ReFRESH” event, which takes place on Earth Day, is scheduled for 3-5 p.m., with check-in beginning at 2 p.m. at various zones around campus. Faculty, staff, and students are all invited to participate, and the first 300 volunteers to sign up will receive a T-shirt. Participants also will receive tickets to attend an ice cream social at 4:30 p.m. on the Donaghey Student Center mall after the clean-up. Volunteers can before noon on Wednesday, April 18. “We are very excited about this new opportunity to engage our campus community in an event to give back to our environment,’’ said Mark Allen Poisel, vice chancellor of student affairs. “Students, faculty, and staff working together to make a physical difference in our campus shows the pride we have in our university. I hope to see many of our campus community members participating.” ReFRESH will target seven zones around campus: Zone 1: Coleman Creek Zone 2: University Avenue / Human Resources / Lot 5 / University Services Zone 3: Administration North / Dickinson Hall / Nanotechnology / Science Lab / Fribourgh Hall Zone 4: ETAS / EIT / Reynolds Center / Zone 5: Donaghey Student Center / Student Services Center / Library / Fine Arts Zone 6: eSTEM / Stabler Hall / Ross / Theater Zone 7: Residence halls / University Village Facilities management will provide trash bags and tools for weeding and raking. Along with external vendors will be ��Vlog��ý Little Rock organizations, such as the Garden Alliance Club, Geology Club, McNair Scholars, and the Sustainability Committee. Food trucks will be located outside of the Donaghey Student Center near the University Parking Deck. This year Big Dawg BBQ, Diane’s Delicious Dogs, Katmandu Momo, and Shambala Mobile Vegan Kitchen will be on site There will also be a shredding truck in the parking lot located on the east side of the library. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Sustainability Committee invites faculty, staff, and students to celebrate Earth Day with its Environmental and Climate Literacy event Friday, April 21. The day will begin with members of the Sustainability Committee collecting used electronics for recycling from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lot 15. The event’s festivities are set to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Ottenheimer Library. Participants can look forward to engaging in recycling games and yoga, as well purchasing items from vendors, including Crooked House Herbals, Pup Eats Dog Treats, A Lively Brew, and Little Brick Oven. Along with external vendors, ��Vlog��ý Little Rock organizations, such as the Garden Alliance Club, will be present with items for sale. During lunch hours, food trucks will be located outside of the Diamond Cafe. Little Rock’s newest mobile market, Fresh 2 You, will be there to provide buyers with fresh fruits and vegetables. A charging station for electronic devices, crafted by Dr. Andrew Wright, associate professor of systems engineering, and his students, will be available for use. ��Vlog��ýLR celebrates Earth Day with fashion show, farmer’s market

In celebration of Earth Day, contestants soon will show off their skills by designing outfits made entirely out of newspaper and duct tape. The Earth Day Fashion Show will be held 5 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in the Donaghey Student Center Upper Concourse. Any University of Arkansas at Little Rock student organization may participate. Registration closes at 5 p.m. Friday, April 15. In addition, ��Vlog��ýLR will host a farmer’s market with community vendors, service organizations, and recycling from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 22, in Ottenheimer Plaza. Each year, The Forum student newspaper partners with the ��Vlog��ýLR Sustainability Committee to host an Earth Day Fashion Show to promote environmental awareness. This year, the fashion show will center on promoting sustainability and ��Vlog��ýLR student organizations. Each contestant will make an outfit entirely from The Forum newspaper and duct tape. Once registration is confirmed, participants may stop by The Forum office, Donaghey Student Center Room 201J, to pick up supplies. Contestants are encouraged to create an outfit that promotes their organization, but this is not required. Refreshments will be provided for contestants and attendees. Admission to the event is $3, which will include one raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets will be $1 each. A variety of raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the evening. The grand prize will be a front-page article about the winning organization in The Forum. Contestant entry fee is $10. Organizations may enter multiple members into the contest. Farmer’s market scheduled

During the Earth Day festivities on April 22, the ��Vlog��ýLR Sustainability Committee will host a farmer’s market with a variety of community vendors and organizations. Vendors, including Kent Walker Cheese, Geri’s Jellies, Pupeat Dog Treats, and Little Brick Oven, will be on site, as well as other vendors selling honey, herbal medicines, handmade products, and locally grown vegetables. Community service organizations like Heifer International, Sierra Club, and Arkansas Beautiful will also be in attendance. In addition, recycling bins will be available in ��Vlog��ýLR parking lot 15.
