It is also designed to help grow recruitment networks and enhance retention and development of a diverse workforce. 鈥溙切腣log传媒 Little Rock is extremely proud to be partnering on this initiative to provide training on diversity, equity, and inclusion at work to support commerce and equitable economic development in Central Arkansas,鈥 Estes said. 鈥淭his course will provide leaders with a strong foundation for DEI work, tools for ongoing efforts through a growing collaborative resources library, and ongoing support for those pursuing related goals at their own institutions.鈥 The program is part of a larger vision for a more equitable business environment that reflects the diversity of Little Rock鈥檚 population, growing economic development through diversity in perspective, services, outlook, and business objectives. 鈥淚 cannot emphasize enough the significance of our businesses leading the way by participating in this movement,鈥 said Dionne Jackson, Ed.D., Little Rock鈥檚 chief equity officer. 鈥淲e must realize, with the growth of our city and moving towards a global majority, we must have businesses that are better equipped to serve as a bridge to access and opportunities. The workshop is for students ages 7-12 and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from Sept. 18 to Oct. 23 in the University Theatre building at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. The program is a collaboration between the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance and the Extended Education office at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. Students will learn about acting, theatre-making, and teamwork through weekly workshops led by a theatre instructor and professional actor. This play-oriented, guided process is designed specifically for pre-teens to develop their acting skills through theatre games, improvisation, and scene development. Students will learn to experience self-expression, practice good listening skills, and learn the value of creative collaboration. The workshop culminates in a final showcase shared with family and friends. The cost is $275 per student. Extended Education courses are non-credit, community enrichment classes. Leslie Mangiamele, a professional artist who has taught studio art and art history for more than 33 years at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, will offer three drawing classes on Mondays from Sept. 9 to Nov. 11 with a tuition of $189 per student. Drawing for Adults for those 18 and older will be held from 2-3:15 p.m. This is a comfortable and casual drawing class designed for the adult who has had some, little, or no formal training. It is a class in classical drawing that includes the close observation and rendering of objects from nature and the man-made world. Modeled on college art classes, students will study the elements of art, principles of design, and a variety of traditional drawing techniques. Drawing for the Young Child will be held from 4-5 p.m. This is a classical drawing class designed for the young child and is for children who have had little or no formal training. The emphasis is on drawing from reality, learning basic techniques, becoming acquainted with the elements of art, and experimentation with a variety of art media. Friendly, fun competitions and rewards will be used for inspiration. Drawing for Pre-Teens and Teens will take place from 5:15-6:30 p.m. This is a drawing class designed for the student who has had some formal training and achieved a basic level of accomplishment or higher. It is a class in classical drawing technique that includes the close observation and rendering of objects from nature and the man-made world. Floyd Martin, professor of art history, will teach Great Artists of 18th and 19th Century Europe on Tuesdays from 3-4:15 p.m. The classes will run from Sept. 10 to Nov. 19. Each class will focus on major figures of European art from the Rococo, Neoclassical, Romantic, Realist, and Impressionist periods. Dr. Michael T. DeAngelis, associate professor of geology in the Department of Earth Sciences at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, will lead a 90-minute class beginning at 10:30 a.m. at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Downtown, 333 President Clinton Ave. The cost is $15. He will discuss the varied geologic provinces in Arkansas and where to find unusual and unique rocks, minerals, fossils, and formations. Attendees also will learn how to read and understand geologic maps and learn about careers in geology. Participants are also welcome to bring a mineral, rock, or fossil specimen for identification. DeAngelis has a specific interest in the geology of Arkansas, particularly the Magnet Cove Alkaline Intrusive Complex located in central Arkansas.
