University District hosts weekly farmers markets for summer season

Summer is back, and that means the return of weekly farmers markets at University District. The Development Corporation will host the University District Farmers Market every week until Sept. 26 to promote healthier eating through access to fresh fruits and vegetables. The farmers markets will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. every Thursday in the University of Arkansas at Little Rock University Plaza Parking Lot at 5820 Asher Ave. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, the markets will feature crafts, plants, prizes, and healthy food demonstrations. SNAP customers can receive up to $20 worth of fresh fruits and vegetables when they use their EBT card to make an initial purchase. University District Farmers Market offers program to encourage healthy eating on a budget

The ��Vlog��ý Little Rock University District will host a special program during its weekly Farmers Market on Thursday, Sept. 13, to encourage shoppers to learn how to plan a healthy meal on a budget. During “Cooking Matters at the Farmers Market,” participants can take the $10 challenge to practice purchasing low-cost, healthy food and earn a free $10 to spend at the market. Representatives from the Arkansas Department of Human Services will be on site in the mobile SNAP van to answer questions. With Double Up Food Bucks, the Farmers Market will match up to $20 on SNAP/EBT card benefits spent on fruits and vegetables. The program will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13 at the University Plaza Parking Lot at 5820 Asher Ave., Little Rock. The program is sponsored by the Arkansas Food Bank, Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, and Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention.

The University District Development Corporation will host three farmers markets on Thursdays in October to promote healthier eating through access to fresh fruits and vegetables. The farmers markets will be held from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6, Oct. 13, and Oct. 20 at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock University Plaza parking lot. The farmers markets will feature fresh fruits and vegetables, crafts, plants, prizes, and healthy food demonstrations. ��Vlog��ýLR celebrates Earth Day with fashion show, farmer’s market

In celebration of Earth Day, contestants soon will show off their skills by designing outfits made entirely out of newspaper and duct tape. The Earth Day Fashion Show will be held 5 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in the Donaghey Student Center Upper Concourse. Any University of Arkansas at Little Rock student organization may participate. Registration closes at 5 p.m. Friday, April 15. In addition, ��Vlog��ýLR will host a farmer’s market with community vendors, service organizations, and recycling from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 22, in Ottenheimer Plaza. Each year, The Forum student newspaper partners with the ��Vlog��ýLR Sustainability Committee to host an Earth Day Fashion Show to promote environmental awareness. This year, the fashion show will center on promoting sustainability and ��Vlog��ýLR student organizations. Each contestant will make an outfit entirely from The Forum newspaper and duct tape. Once registration is confirmed, participants may stop by The Forum office, Donaghey Student Center Room 201J, to pick up supplies. Contestants are encouraged to create an outfit that promotes their organization, but this is not required. Refreshments will be provided for contestants and attendees. Admission to the event is $3, which will include one raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets will be $1 each. A variety of raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the evening. The grand prize will be a front-page article about the winning organization in The Forum. Contestant entry fee is $10. Organizations may enter multiple members into the contest. Farmer’s market scheduled

During the Earth Day festivities on April 22, the ��Vlog��ýLR Sustainability Committee will host a farmer’s market with a variety of community vendors and organizations. Vendors, including Kent Walker Cheese, Geri’s Jellies, Pupeat Dog Treats, and Little Brick Oven, will be on site, as well as other vendors selling honey, herbal medicines, handmade products, and locally grown vegetables. Community service organizations like Heifer International, Sierra Club, and Arkansas Beautiful will also be in attendance. In addition, recycling bins will be available in ��Vlog��ýLR parking lot 15.
