Incoming freshmen share future plans for college careers]]> The start of the 2019-20 academic year is right around the corner, and soon you鈥檒l be seeing many fresh faces on campus with new students who are ready to start their college careers.聽 More than 175 new students attended Freshman Orientation last week at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, where they talked about their hopes for the future.聽聽 Colt Nix, a 2015 graduate of Ouachita High School and Malvern native, is thrilled to start engineering classes after getting some inspiration from a family member. 鈥淚鈥檝e been watching my sister the last few years,鈥 Nix said. 鈥淪he graduated last year with an engineering degree and inspired me to go to school.鈥 The former firefighter has just returned to Arkansas after taking a trip to see the world where he visited 28 countries. His favorite was Russia, because of the country鈥檚 many castles. Jewel Leonard, a new freshman from Cabot, is looking forward to studying English at a campus where she has fond childhood memories. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 want to go too far from my family, and I came to basketball games with my dad when I was a kid,鈥 Leonard said. 鈥淲e came and took a tour, and I felt very at home. I knew I would have good opportunities, and it would give me a new outlook on life.鈥 After graduating from Arkansas Virtual Academy in May, Kevonte Moore, a Conway native and chemistry major, is looking forward to making new friends and his future career in medicine. 鈥溙切腣log传媒 Little Rock has a good chemistry program, and I want to use it to my advantage to become a surgeon,鈥 Moore said. 鈥淚 want to become a surgeon because I鈥檝e always wanted to help people.鈥 Another future doctor, Yashui Adhvaryu, a May graduate of Benton High School, chose 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock because it鈥檚 close to her home and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, which the biology and pre-med major plans to attend after graduation. 鈥淚 want to get good grades, meet new friends, and have better opportunities so I can succeed in healthcare,鈥 she said.聽 In the upper right photo, Orientation Leader Taylor Gully leads a group of incoming students and their parents on a tour of campus during a Freshman Orientation session. New Trojans arrive for Freshman Orientation]]> Be on the lookout for new Trojans as incoming students descend upon the campus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for the summer鈥檚 first freshman orientation sessions. 聽 Holly Meadows, coordinator for New Student and Family Programs at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, said that more than 100 students attended the first freshman orientation on June 1. Two more orientations are planned for this week. So far, 109 students are registered to attend orientation on Wednesday, June 6, and 96 for Friday, June 8. During orientation, students meet with an academic advisor, register for fall classes, and learn about being a Trojan. Incoming freshmen can still sign up for orientations on Tuesday, June 19; Thursday, June 21; Tuesday, July 24; Friday, July 27, and Friday, Aug. 3. Out-of-town students who need a place to stay the night before orientation can apply to stay in one of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 residence halls for $35 a night by. ]]>
