��Vlog��ý Little Rock’s Hadden recognized as industry Pacesetter

Ian Hadden, director of Energy Management Services at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, has been named a 2019 Pacesetter for the educational facilities management industry. previously known as the Association of Physical Plant Administrators, will recognize Hadden July 15 at the APPA awards reception during the APPA annual conference in Denver. APPA promotes leadership in educational facilities for professionals seeking to build their careers, transform their institutions, and elevate the value and recognition of facilities in education. The Pacesetter Award recognizes professionals who have made significant contributions at their regions or chapters. “Ian has represented ��Vlog��ý Little Rock with distinction in the APPA arena, and the Pacesetter award is well deserved,” said Dave Millay, associate vice chancellor for facilities management and planning at ��Vlog��ý Little Rock. “His contributions to our university and profession are significant, and I am proud of what he has accomplished and will continue to accomplish.” As Director of Energy Management Services for ��Vlog��ý Little Rock, Hadden leads a 21-member team responsible for the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, building control systems and utilities on campus and the Bowen School of Law. Before joining ��Vlog��ý Little Rock’s Facilities Management Department in 2013, Hadden spent 16 years in the commercial HVAC, energy project development and green building industry with manufacturers and an architecture and engineering design firm. Prior to that, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for six years. ��Hadden is a licensed Professional Engineer;�� a Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP);�� LEED Accredited Professional Building Design + Construction (LEED AP BD+C), and a Certified Energy Manager.�� In May, he earned his MBA from the ��Vlog��ý Little Rock’s College of Business and was named the Outstanding MBA student for the 2018-19 academic year, His wife Tiffany is also a ��Vlog��ý Little Rock alum who earned her Master of Social Work, also in May 2019. They have two sons, a high school senior at Central High School and a freshman at Parkview Magnet. “I would like to thank David Millay for introducing me to APPA,” Hadden said. “It’s been wonderful getting to know colleagues from other institutions, sharing successes and solutions to struggles as well as exposure to the wonderful training programs.” Other 2019 recipients of the Pacesetter Award this year include Connie Simmons, Phillip Exeter Academy; Kevin Mann, Salisbury University; and Thomas Polansky, Occidental College. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock hosts Big Dam Bridge Criterium

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has stepped in to host the Big Dam Bridge Criterium bicycle races after the race’s usual location experienced unexpected flooding.�� Normally held in Burns Park in North Little Rock, the race series needed a new home due to flooding from the Arkansas River in Burns Park. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock’s Cycling Club is excited to provide an alternate venue and allow the races to continue. The races will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. on the following Tuesdays – June 4, June 11, and June 18 – in ��Vlog��ý Little Rock parking lot 14, across the street from the Windgate Center of Art and Design. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock staff members earn Certified Educational Facilities Professional credential

Two staff members from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Facilities Management office have received the Certified Educational Facilities Professional credential from.�� Leslie Hutchins, assistant director of Facilities Management planning and capital construction, and Ian Hadden, director of energy management, earned the certification on July 23. The credential validates the unique knowledge and competency required of an accomplished professional in the educational facilities field and incorporates advanced training in planning, design and construction, daily operations, and general management. APPA’s Certified Educational Facilities Professional credential is the only certification that demonstrates the recipient’s qualifications for educational facilities management and their dedication to the educational facilities profession, according to John Morris, chair of APPAs’ Board for Educational Facilities Professionals Certification. “Credentialing is important, not just to show that you are qualified, but also to show that you have enough dedication in your role to make the effort to earn a professional certification,” Morris said. “Quite often that says more about an individual than the certification itself. By obtaining and maintaining this credential, recipients will further assure forward-thinking relevancy and mastery of the best management practices related to educational facilities.” APPA promotes leadership in educational facilities for professionals seeking to build their careers, transform their institutions, and elevate the value and recognition of facilities in education. APPA provides members the opportunity to explore trends, issues, and best practices in educational facilities through research, publications, professional development and credentialing. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock Cycling Club members ride Tour de Rock in honor of vice chancellor’s brother

Steve McClellan, vice chancellor for finance and administration at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, wanted to do something to support his brother.�� Bruce McClellan, who lives near Alexandria, Louisiana, was diagnosed with lung cancer last year and has been fighting the disease ever since. “My brother found out that he had a pretty serious situation going on with cancer,” McClellan said. “There is not much I can do other than support him. Sometimes, you want to do whatever you can to let the person know that you are there.” His attention turned to CARTI’s 15th annual Tour de Rock on June 2. McClellan and his family members have often participated in the cycling fundraiser that supports CARTI’s continued fight against cancer by providing the most advanced forms of treatment available while also meeting the needs of patients and their families. McClellan sponsored a team of 12 ��Vlog��ý Little Rock riders who participated in the Tour de Rock in honor of Bruce. McClellan and his wife, Ladye Ann, also rode in the event. He contacted Martial Trigeaud, business consultant with the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center and one of the faculty advisors of the ��Vlog��ý Little Rock Cycling Club, who immediately put the call out on social media for club members who would be interested in riding in the Tour de Rock. “I said I was sure we could find people to ride for them,” Trigeaud said. “I posted it on Facebook. In less than five minutes, I had 10 people reaching out to me to say they wanted to ride for Steve McClellan and his brother. Many of the members were excited to ride in honor of Bruce and members of their family who were affected by cancer.”��

��Vlog��ý Little Rock employees and students who rode in the Tour de Rock include Alex Biris, director of the Center for Integrative Nanotechnology Sciences; Thomas Bunton of Information Technology Services; Emilie Darrigues, a Ph.D. student of applied science; John Evans, associate athletics director for facilities and events; Ian Hadden, director of energy management services; Luis Lopez; a student majoring in political science; Matthew Morton of the Department of Public Safety; Melanie Ridlon, a student in the MBA program; and Drew Smith, an adjunct instructor for the Nonprofit Leadership Studies Program. Unfortunately, Trigeaud, who was meant to be the 10th ��Vlog��ý Little Rock rider, could not participate due to an injury. Cyclists choose to ride distances of 25, 50, 62, 80, or 100 miles. The ��Vlog��ý Little Rock team members rode nearly 500 miles in honor of Bruce McClellan. Altogether, 880 riders participated in Tour de Rock, including riders from Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas. “They put together a very diverse team of riders in a very short period of time, which I thought was remarkable. I’m thankful to Martial Trigeaud and Ian Hadden for putting that together,” McClellan said. “My brother was real proud and very thankful. He is a very religious person, so the ride meant a lot to him. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock employees bring love of cycling to campus with new club

Before moving to Arkansas with his wife to pursue graduate school, Martial Trigeaud was a semi-professional cyclist in France. While Trigeaud, now a with the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center, was thrilled with the beautiful trails and mountain biking opportunities in Arkansas, but he was disappointed to find there was no competitive biking club at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. “A year ago, I was interested in racing at the cycling championship,” Trigeaud said. “They said I was eligible to race if I was a student at ��Vlog��ý Little Rock, but we didn’t have a racing team at the university. I needed one in Little Rock.” His desire to continue competitive cycling led Trigeaud to CARVE, a Central Arkansas cycling club based in Little Rock with a competitive racing team that Trigeaud manages as a team captain. While cycling with other members of, Trigeaud met Ian Hadden, ��Vlog��ý Little Rock director of energy management. The two cyclers wanted to share the joy of biking with the university community by starting a cycling club on campus. “The nice thing about cycling is it doesn’t matter how old you are,” Hadden said. “You can ride a bike when you are 6 or when you are 86.” The only qualifications to join the cycling club are an affiliation with the university and an interest in cycling. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock students, faculty, staff, and alumni are all welcome to join. Membership in the club allows students to compete in cycling events through the South Central Collegiate Cycling Conference.

“The main idea behind the club is to give students interested in cycling an opportunity to compete at the collegiate level and to get them involved in an activity that is healthy and can provide them great networking in the Little Rock business community,” Hadden said. Club membership is $50 and includes cycling shorts and club jerseys. After six months, the club has already attracted 40 members, which is far more than the five members the club’s co-founders originally expected, including Chancellor Andrew Rogerson and Janessa Rogerson. Trigeaud and Hadden said that now is a great time to introduce the cycling culture to the ��Vlog��ý Little Rock community. Trigeaud described cycling as the “new golf” and a great way to build great contacts.�� Trigeaud even helped train former ��Vlog��ý Little Rock employee Leah Thorvilson, who last year won a professional cycling contract with Canyon-SRAM after winning Zwift Academy, a talent search for female cyclists. The recent decision to, a 65-mile bike trail between Little Rock and Hot Springs, is just another signal showcasing how important cycling is to the Central Arkansas region. “The world of cycling has grown a lot over the past 5-10 years,” Trigeaud said. “We have a strong cycling community that continues to grow. There are CEOs of banks, business owners, doctors, lawyers, politicians, and all kind of folks engaged in cycling. We want to use the cycling club to build better connections between the university and the community.” Future plans for the club include hosting community bike rides, starting a competitive cycling team for students on campus, and hosting a series of cycling races on the ��Vlog��ý Little Rock campus.
