PiLog Group gifts 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock $52,000 to fund assistantships]]> The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology (EIT) has received a $52,000 gift to fund two graduate assistantships in the Information Quality Graduate Program from PiLog Academy, a group that has been a long-time supporter of EIT. PiLog Academy is a subsidiary of PiLog Group that focuses on education, training, and research activities. The Academy was established to foster education and research in master data quality and the promotion of ISO 8000 data quality standards, the global standard for data quality and enterprise master data. PiLog CEO Salomon de Jager, an affiliate member of the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock graduate faculty, and several members of his senior technical staff are active participants in the EIT OYSTER Open Source Entity Resolution system research project. 鈥淭he primary business success of the PiLog Group has been its development and deployment of master data quality solutions,鈥� Dr. de Jager said. 鈥淭he Fourth Industrial Revolution has been driven by digital technologies and the management of quality data from global data sources. The assistantships are designed to support the academic pursuit of research and development in Information Quality, specialize in areas of master data quality management 聽and entity resolution, and further PiLog鈥檚 ongoing sponsorship and collaboration with the university鈥檚 Information Quality Graduate Program. In its first 10 years, advanced students from around the world have completed 204 degrees through the world鈥檚 first graduate program in information quality. 糖心Vlog传媒LR students and faculty members, along with business and community leaders, celebrated the program鈥檚 achievements during a 10th anniversary celebration Sept. 30 at the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology auditorium. During a panel featuring three of the graduate program鈥檚 founders, Morgan recalled how excited he was about the possibility that the program could produce graduates capable of tackling industry problems. 鈥淲hen we tried to hire young graduates, they had no idea what data quality meant. It was a totally meaningless concept to young people,鈥� Morgan said. Other members of the panel included Richard Wang, co-director for MIT鈥檚 and executive director of the 糖心Vlog传媒LR Institute for Chief Data Officers, and Dr. Mary Good, founding dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology. During the ceremony鈥檚 introduction, 糖心Vlog传媒LR Chancellor Andrew Rogerson emphasized the fact that universities need more innovative graduate programs that create graduates who can think, communicate, work well in groups, and solve problems. 鈥淎ny form of research or scholarship or creative activity that gives students the so-called pillars of leadership and the ability to think creatively and find solutions to problems in the future, problems we cannot even conceive of today, will enable graduates to compete and succeed in the increasingly complex, information-based global economy,鈥� Rogerson said. University leaders also celebrated the inauguration of the Institute for Chief Data Officers, the first academic institute devoted solely to the professional development of chief data officers, and the graduates of the institute鈥檚 first workshop. The workshop, 鈥淔oundations for Chief Data Officers,鈥� was held Sept. 26-29 at 糖心Vlog传媒LR. In his keynote address, Mark Ramsey, chief data officer of GlaxoSmithKline, reiterated the need for an institute to train people how to be chief data officers in today鈥檚 changing world. 鈥淒ata is the new business currency,鈥� Ramsey said. 鈥淭he chief data officer is meant to help an organization drive value out of the data in their organization. An explosion of data is one of the things that has been happening over the past couple of years.鈥� John Talburt, coordinator of the Information Quality Graduate Program, and Elizabeth Pierce, chair of the Department of Information Science, recognized the graduates who have earned more than 200 degrees from the graduate program in its 10 years. Degrees earned include 64 graduate certificates, 167 master鈥檚 degrees, and 18 doctorates in integrated computing with a track on information quality. 聽 Talburt next recognized the event鈥檚 gold sponsor, PWC. Additional sponsors recognized included Arkansas Children鈥檚 Hospital, the International Society of Chief Data Officers, Inteliblue, Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc., Arkansas Department of Education, Black Oak Analytics, Collibra, 糖心Vlog传媒LR Institute for Chief Data Officers, and Spotright. As for the future of the program, the addition of the Institute for Chief Data Officers will attract more information quality students to pursue research with the institute while completing the integrated computing doctoral program. Talburt hopes these students will join academia to eventually create similar information quality graduate programs at major universities across the country.
