Forward Arkansas Awards 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock $100K Grant to Help Recruit and Train K-12 Teachers]]> The universities will receive design and technical assistance from Forward Arkansas and its partners to develop a 鈥渢ransformation plan鈥 that captures their vision for change and aligns with the Arkansas Department of Education鈥檚 future direction for educator preparation. Dr. Sarah Beth Estes, dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education, and Dr. Kent Layton, director of the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock School of Education, will serve as the principal investigators on the grant. 鈥淲e are thrilled to be included with seven other EPPs in the state to plan toward growing our work in recruiting and educating high-quality teachers,鈥 Estes said. 鈥淭his grant provides wrap-around services to identify areas of focus, support for planning, and technical assistance for plan implementation.听 We will be spending the next few months in a collaborative process including faculty, district stakeholders, and students to identify and plan for the implementation of the innovations that make most sense for us as an EPP in central Arkansas.鈥 Forward Arkansas selected the universities through a competitive statewide process. It sought a cohort of institutions of varying sizes and locations. It also looked for universities with proven commitments to increasing teacher diversity and track records of placing educators in high-need locations. 鈥淲e want to support and champion Arkansas institutions that have the bold ideas and committed leadership needed to transform our state鈥檚 teacher pipeline,鈥 said Ben Kutylo, Forward Arkansas鈥檚 executive director. 鈥淭hrough the collaborative, we aim to help Arkansas recruit more qualified teachers, better prepare educators for the challenges of the classroom and improve overall teacher retention rates.鈥 The additional participating universities include Arkansas State University, Arkansas Tech University, Harding University, Southern Arkansas University, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, and University of Central Arkansas. Next year, a select number of institutions will have the opportunity to pursue additional funding for implementation in summer 2022. Forward Arkansas was established in 2014 with grants from the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation and Walton Family Foundation with the goal of improving outcomes for all students. Arkansas Department of Education Awards 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock $175K Grant to Create Online Teaching Academy for K-12 Teachers]]> The 2021-2022 Online Teacher Academy Endorsement program will provide training for K-12 teachers in the state to learn more about online teaching and course creation by taking courses through the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Learning System Technology Education program in the School of Education. During the academy, participants will earn 15 hours of graduate credit as well as an endorsement in K-12 online teaching by the Arkansas Department of Education upon completion of a state assessment. The grant will cover tuition, books, and a state assessment for 20 K-12 teachers who are participating in the online teacher academy. Dr. Daryl Tate, assistant professor in the School of Education and coordinator of the Learning System Technology Education program, will serve as the director of the online teacher academy, while Sharonda Lipscomb, instructional design coordinator, will serve as the program administrator. 鈥淓ducators in the 21st century need to have certain skill sets to be effective in their classes, whether they are teaching hybrid, fully online, or face-to-face classes,鈥 Tate said. 鈥淭his grant from the Arkansas Department of Education will help us prepare K-12 teachers to deliver quality online learning to their students.鈥 During the academy, teachers will create an online course that they can use in their schools. During the spring showcase on April 9, 2022, teachers will present the design and development elements of their course to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock faculty members for review. The participants will also have the opportunity to share ideas and receive feedback from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock eLearning instructional designers.

鈥淲hat happened with the pandemic really got people鈥檚 attention focused on the quality of online learning,鈥 Tate said. 鈥淪ome teachers seamlessly moved over to online versions of their courses, while some were not ready for the fast transition caused by the pandemic. People want to be prepared, and teachers who complete this academy will enhance their online teaching and course development skills.鈥 Teachers participating in the online teaching academy also have opportunities for further learning. Participants who complete the academy will earn the graduate certificate in Learning Systems Technology Education with the completion of one more course. They may also earn a master鈥檚 degree in education with the completion of six courses after the graduate certificate. Little Rock Writing Project to host institute for K-12 teachers]]> Arkansas teachers who instruct kindergarten through high school students are invited to learn innovative approaches to the writing process and improve their teaching practices during a summer institute at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.听 The Little Rock Writing Project, hosted by the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Department of Rhetoric and Writing, will hold the 2018 Invitational Summer Institute June 11-22. The institute will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Thanks to a grant from the National Writing Project, the institute is free for all participants. During the summer program, participants will discover new ways to approach the writing process, study best practices to teach writing, explore ways to integrate technology into the writing process, and learn about new research. Now in the institute鈥檚 21th year, more than 200 teachers have benefitted by participating. 鈥淣othing shaped my pedagogy and practice in the classroom more than the LRWP Summer Institute,鈥 said Greg Graham, director of the Little Rock Writing Project. 鈥淭he motto behind the summer institute is 鈥榯eachers teaching teachers.鈥 This means that teachers collaborate around best practices in the classroom and the challenges that they are facing with the ever-changing landscape of standards and assessment,鈥 Graham said. 鈥淲e will read and engage with the latest research pertaining to student literacy, critical thinking, best practices, helpful classroom technology, and more.鈥 聽 The Little Rock Writing Project is supported in part by the and 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock.
