Seventeen 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Students Receive LULAC Scholarships]]> The students will be honored at an annual gala, where LULAC will once again recognize 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock as a premier Latino Destination Campus for the university鈥檚 continued support to the Latino community. Two of the students will also receive 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Student-of-the-Year awards with plaques to honor their selection. 鈥淔or the majority of these students, they are the first in their families to go to college and often come from resource-challenged environments,鈥 said Dr. Terry Richard, a professor emeritus of sociology at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock and a charter member of the Arkansas Council of LULAC. 鈥淭hese are bright dedicated students who make the best recruiters for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. We thank all of our administrators and faculty for their commitment to our Latino students and community.鈥 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 scholarship recipients include Jai Ahir, Brayan Perez Arias, Maria Avalos, Emily Gonzalez Baltaz, Gael Bernal, Griselda Delgado, Maria Elkhattabi, Jazmin Garcia, Joel Hermosillo, Crissy Jones, Juan Lopez, Luis Martinez, Clarissa Torres, Oreana Roman, Maria Roman, Yvonne Rodriguez, and Katherine Robles. 鈥淎fter college, I plan to work as an accountant with hopes as well to help the Hispanic community with some of their financial needs,鈥 said Jazmin Garcia, a Spanish and accounting major from Little Rock. 鈥淚t brings me lots of joy to receive this scholarship, and my family is very joyful as well. We are happy to know that I am receiving help with paying for college. This scholarship helps relieve financial stress and gives me more motivation to work hard for my future education and career goals.鈥 Katherine Robles, a second-year graduate student earning a master鈥檚 degree in social work, said she is grateful for the scholarship that will help her pursue her goal of working with veterans. 鈥淚 am so grateful for the LULAC scholarship. Pursuing an education can be costly, especially while managing all other expenses,鈥 Robles said. 鈥淭his scholarship will ease these financial stresses while allowing more freedom within my employment. It will greatly help me further my education by providing the means to do so. Once I graduate, I plan to pursue a career within the VA, as I am a veteran myself and have previously worked with this population.鈥 Another scholarship recipient, Clarissa Torres, a freshman nursing major from San Antonio, Texas, is thankful for the scholarship that will allow her to focus on her studies. 鈥淚 love that LULAC gives the younger generation of Hispanics money to pursue their dreams,鈥 Torres said. 鈥淭his scholarship helps my education by releasing some stress about how my education would be paid for. Times have not always been easy but my mom has pushed through it all. I know that being a single parent is hard, even though she never told me about her struggles, I could see them. I knew that I did not want her to pay for college, so I did the best I could in school to get good grades. Everything I did was for her. All I want from her is to be proud of me.鈥 LULAC is the largest Latino civil rights organization in the United States and seeks to empower the Latino community at the local, state, and national level through its seven councils chartered in Arkansas. The organization focuses heavily on education, civil rights, health, and employment opportunities. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock was the first higher education institution in Arkansas to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with LULAC to create a partnership to recruit and retain Latino students on campus. LULAC Awards Martinez Special Book Scholarship]]> 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 expect this scholarship,鈥 Martinez said. 鈥淚 thought I would have to work for the rest of the semester to finish paying for my books, but now I don鈥檛 have to stress as much over finances. This scholarship will help me a lot.鈥 Martinez, a native of Bryant, plans to double major in business and Spanish. With the special knowledge earned from a minor in geology, Martinez wants to one day open his own real estate firm that will focus on sustainable housing built with renewable energy resources. This is the third scholarship that LULAC Council 750 has provided outside its annual scholarship program for students in need of financial assistance. The scholarship was funded by LULAC, the Richard Family Fund Scholarship, and private donations. 鈥淭his book scholarship is an example of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock working with nonprofit and community organizations like LULAC and private citizens to help fill an essential student need,鈥 said Dr. Terry Trevino-Richard, a professor emeritus of sociology at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. 鈥淟ULAC is very grateful for the assistance Chancellor Christina Drale has provided to Latino students on campus.鈥 LULAC seeks to empower the Latino community at the local, state, and national level through its seven councils chartered in Arkansas. The 17 students are receiving a total of $14,812, with some matching funds from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. This year, LULAC awarded more than $316,000 in scholarships to 46 students from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, Arkansas Tech University, University of Central Arkansas, Arkansas State University, Shorter College 糖心Vlog传媒-Pulaski Tech, Arkansas State University, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Hendrix College. They will be honored during a virtual gala at 6 p.m. Dec. 3. LULAC will also recognize 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock once again as a premier Latino Destination Campus for the university鈥檚 continued support to the Latino community. In addition to the gala, LULAC will hold a month-long celebration that coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept.15 to Oct. 15) and will include highlights of the recipients and sponsors on . 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 scholarship recipients include Andrea Vargas, a civil engineering major; Jenifer Carmona Garcia, a Spanish and elementary education double major; Miracle Willis, a nursing, political science, and Spanish major; Alexey Chacon-Perez, a nursing major; Gerardo Ramirez, a civil engineering major, Ahtziri Saldana, a civil engineering major; Janette Munoz, a nursing and Spanish double major; Maria 脕valos, a nursing major; Christine Jones, a professional and technical writing graduate student; Jimena Balada, an international business and human resources major; Blanca Arias, a social work major; Griselda Delgado Torres, a social work major; Maria Elkhattabi, a biology and anthropology double major; Javier Gonzalez Luna, a construction management major; Luis Velasquez, a civil engineering major; Luis Martinez, a business major, and Luis Torres, a construction management major. Four of the students will receive special scholarships. Jimena Balada will receive the Patricia Guardado Scholarship, awarded in remembrance of Patricia Guardado, a 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock sophomore who was studying international business at the time of her death. Her murder has never been solved, and LULAC has awarded a scholarship in her name every year to remember her and other students like her who want an education. Alexey Chacon-Perez will receive the Richard Family Fund Scholarship, an endowed scholarship awarded to deserving Latino students attending 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, where Terry Richard is a professor emeritus. The scholarship recognizes academic excellence and requires 15 hours of community service with 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock LULAC Council 771 or with another community agency that works with the Latino community. Christine Jones and Andrea Vargas will receive the Just Communities of Arkansas Scholarship/Internship. The two students will intern at Just Communities of Arkansas during this school year as well as receive a scholarship. LULAC seeks to empower the Latino community at the local, state, and national level through its seven councils chartered in Arkansas. The organization involves and serves Latinos of all national origins and focuses heavily on education, civil rights, and employment.
