Two University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law students attended the Sept. 22-23 at Harvard Law School. Bowen students Daina Rodriguez and Madison Pitts were two of only 50 female law students selected to attend. “Meeting female law students who are doing great things in their law school and community was a privilege,” Pitts said. “Daina and I are honored to have been included in the group.” Academy speakers included professionals at the top of their fields in law, business, and marketing. The students learned the economic advantages to a diverse workplace, including an increase in production, more creativity, and even a larger bottom line. “We should not look at gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. as marks against us when we are out in the workforce,” Pitts said. “Rather, we should look at such qualities as assets; not only to ourselves but to our future employers.” The purpose of the leadership academy is to enhance applicants’ national law school network, equip them with tools necessary for professional development, and provide them with new opportunities. “In speaking with other students, we learned that not every school puts a value on this professional development,” Rodriguez said. “Madison and I are proud to be Bowen students and honored to have had this opportunity.” In the upper right photo, Bowen students Daina Rodriguez and Madison Pitts were two of only 50 female law students selected to attend the Ms. JD’s National Women’s Law Students Organization Leadership Academy Sept. 22-23 at Harvard Law School.

Two University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law students have been selected to attend the

Bowen students Chancie Coomer and Madison Pitts will join lawyers and other law students in Baltimore, Maryland, where they will participate in cutting-edge continuing legal education programming.

Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 18, with an afternoon of public service and an evening welcome reception, the conference will offer two full days of continuing legal education programming. One session will provide attendees with insider perspectives on how the federal government is addressing key issues including public lands, climate change, and conservation.

Both students received full scholarships from the American Bar Association to attend the conference.

“We are both very excited about many of the lectures we will be attending, including a session on food law and several regarding environmental law under the Trump administration,” Coomer said.

Pitts and Coomer will give a presentation about the conference during an upcoming meeting of the Environmental Law Society at Bowen.
