Boyd Professor of Excellence]]> Dr. David Gilliam, associate professor of marketing and coordinator of the International Business Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, has been appointed the 2019 Harper W. Boyd Professor of Excellence.聽 The Boyd Professor of Excellence was established to recognize a professor for his or her distinction as a scholar, a teacher, and a leader in the college, university, and community. 鈥淒r. Gilliam has a distinguished research record in the area of sales and continues to develop that stream of research and others,鈥 said Dr. Jane Wayland, dean of the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock College of Business. 鈥淗e teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses with all modalities of face-to-face, online, and hybrid with consistently high instruction evaluations. He has been active in service to the university, college, and department and readily takes on new projects.鈥 His research focuses on narratives, communication, and relationships in sales, services, and branding. Gilliam has published 10 peer-reviewed journal articles and worked with multiple co-authors and other individuals outside the marketing field, especially in healthcare. Many of his published articles have focused on narratives and storytelling in marketing. He is the recipient of several awards for his research and contribution to the field of marketing. The trade journal, Industrial Marketing Management, which focuses on research for scholars and practitioners of marketing recognized him as an outstanding reviewer. He also received the 2018 Faculty Excellence Award in Research from the College of Business. In 2012, Dr. Gilliam received the Doctoral Dissertation Award and the Winter Marketing Educators Conference Best Paper in the sales track from the American Marketing Association, a professional organization with 30,000 members, 76 professional chapters and 250 collegiate chapters across the United States. 鈥淩eceiving the professorship was a great honor. I am very flattered, and it has inspired me,鈥 Gilliam said. 鈥淪upport from the community is vital for faculty development and student success. The family of Harper W. Boyd has given me a great opportunity which will foster my research and aid my teaching. It is hard to express how much I appreciate their contribution.鈥 Dr. Gilliam came to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock in 2011 after receiving a Ph.D. in business administration from Oklahoma State University, an MBA with a concentration in economics from Wright State University, and a B.A. in economics from Ohio University. He previously had extensive experience in industry.]]> 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students place in Top 10 in national social media challenge /news-archive/2018/08/21/national-social-media-challenge/ Tue, 21 Aug 2018 14:30:53 +0000 /news/?p=71452 ... 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students place in Top 10 in national social media challenge]]> Two University of Arkansas at Little Rock students finished in the Top 10 in a national social media challenge for Phi Beta Lambda, the college division of Future Business Leaders of America.聽 Shibani Lal, marketing major, and Bhavya Patel, business and biology major, placed in the Top 10 for their project dedicated to creating strategies for recruiting Phi Beta Lambda members through various social media platforms. For the social media challenge, Lal and Patel had to create a social media campaign that markets and shows how Phi Beta Lambda is an organization that benefits students from a variety of majors using at least three sources of social media. During the 2017-18 academic year, membership in Phi Beta Lambda at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock increased by more than 150 percent, the highest increase in the state of Arkansas. Lal and Patel placed first during Arkansas鈥檚 Phi Beta Lambda competition held April 6-7 in Little Rock. They placed 10th in the national competition, held June 23-27 in Baltimore. 鈥淭hrough constant social media posts about Phi Beta Lambda鈥檚 volunteer activities and events, we want everyone to know there are many benefits to joining Phi Beta Lambda, such as volunteering with members in our community, attending events on campus, and off campus company tours,鈥 Patel said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a great way for members to experience the culture of Phi Beta Lambda and learn about potential careers. Carnival of Clubs returns Aug. 29 to College of Business]]> Students and clubs at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock are invited to represent their own organization and recruit membership at the annual Carnival of Clubs at the College of Business.聽 Hosted by the Marketing and Advertising Department, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, at the Reynolds Center for Business and Economic Development. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock student organizations are invited and encouraged to sign up and participate. All students are welcome to join in the fun and games. Student organizations may to host a table at the event. Carnival of Clubs attractions will include circus carnival games, contests, free popcorn, and the ever-popular 鈥淒unk the Funk鈥 challenge, where participants will have three opportunities to send Accounting, Economics and Finance Chair Dr. Mark Funk plummeting to the bottom of a dunk booth. New attractions for this year鈥檚 event include a Western belt buckle contest, with cash prizes, faculty line dancing, and a photo booth.
