��Vlog��ý Little Rock Move-In Day set for Aug. 15

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will be abuzz with activity on Thursday, Aug. 15, as excited students and their families arrive on campus for Move-In Day. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock is looking for faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community volunteers to assist students and their families who will be moving in from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers are invaluable to the Move-In Day experience by welcoming new students and their families to campus, unloading cars, controlling traffic, serving as guides, and preparing lunch and refreshments. “The first day of move-in is always full of excitement and anxiety for new students,” said Patti Light, director of campus living. “Volunteers help give a personal touch to settling in on campus. We will have hundreds of students and guests on Aug. 15, looking to make ��Vlog��ý Little Rock connections. We really need those helpful hands and faces to make those connections.” Check-in for students with last names A-L will be from 8 a.m. to noon while students with last names M-Z can check in between 1-5 p.m. Students can learn about what to bring and what not bring to college at this website. Check-in locations include the first-floor lobbies of West Hall and East Hall, the Commons Theater for North Hall and South Hall, and the University Village Clubhouse. A cookout will take place outside the University Commons building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. followed by a farewell reception from 3-5 p.m. in the Commons Great Room. The Office of Campus Living will host a cooling station with snow cones, water, and Gatorade from 11:30-3 p.m. In the Student Commons building, a one-stop shop will be set up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., where students can register their vehicle and request a mailbox. New students are encouraged to meet their neighbors and resident assistants during a floor meeting taking place on every floor of the residence halls from 7-8 p.m. To sign up to volunteer, fill out the. Campus police will direct traffic. All trailers and U-hauls must be parked in parking lot 15, not in the residence hall parking lots. Only vehicles may be unloaded in the residence hall parking lots. Between 1,300 and 1,400 University of Arkansas at Little Rock students are expected to return to campus for the 2017-18 academic year Saturday, Aug. 12. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock is seeking employees, students, alumni, and community volunteers to assist students and their families who will be moving in from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Marc Glidden, director of campus living, said it is important for students and parents to remain flexible during the move-in process. “We have 1,400 students moving in on one day, so it can be confusing. If everyone can be flexible, parents can sit back and enjoy the experience of their students going to college,” Glidden said. “If you forget to buy something, there is no need to panic. There are plenty of stores nearby to get those last-minute items for your student.” Check-in for students with last names A-L will be from 8 a.m. to noon, while students with last names M-Z can check in between 1-5 p.m. Check-in locations include the first floor lobbies of West Hall and East Hall, the Commons Great Room for North Hall and South Hall, and the University Village Clubhouse. Nearly 900 students arrive during move-in day

Nearly 900 students moved on campus Saturday, Aug. 13, during what one organizer called one of the smoothest move-in days in ��Vlog��ýLR history. The day went well thanks to the hard work of the Office of Campus Living staff and a high number of volunteers, according to Marc Glidden, ��Vlog��ýLR director of campus living. “We got a lot of feedback about how things were running so smoothly, and that it was one of the best move-in day we have had in a while,” Glidden said. “That is especially thanks to our staff who stayed out so late the night before to get things ready and the many volunteers who came to help the students and their families.” Campus living staff stayed on campus until 2 a.m. the night before move-in day. The staff was back and ready for action at 7 a.m. They were going strong until the last student checked in at 9 p.m. In addition to the staff, more than 150 volunteers arrived on campus despite the rainy weather. Some of the largest groups of volunteers came from organizations such as Chi Alpha, the Chancellor’s Leadership Corps, and the university’s Greek community. Mark Harris, acting director of the Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship, brought several members of the organization to volunteer Saturday. While the rain kept some people away, the weather was not about to keep Harris from volunteering. “The rain dampened a whole lot of response,” Harris said. “As a parent of two college students, I have been on the receiving end of that kind of help. When you bring a carload to a college campus, it sure is nice when there is a gang of people to help carry stuff to the dormitories.” At lunchtime, Dr. Brad Patterson, vice provost for student affairs and dean of students, manned the grill, cooking hot dogs and hamburgers for the masses of hungry students and their families eating a free lunch at the Trojan Grill. ��Vlog��ýLR Dining Services provided the food for the cookout. ��Vlog��ýLR staff had an elevator maintenance person on site, who was quickly able to repair an elevator in North Hall, thus saving students, parents, and volunteers the hardship of many extra trips up the stairs. The ��Vlog��ýLR Department of Public Safety was also prepared with an extra 10 officers on duty. On social media, move-in day was a popular topic on Snapchat. A Snapchat geofilter created by a campus living staff member had more than 18,000 views on Aug. 13. ��Vlog��ýLR welcomes students back to campus with Trojan Daze Week

Thousands of students are returning to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Saturday, Aug. 13, for a new school year, and there will be plenty of free activities to welcome them back to campus. The move-in day return to campus will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, followed by the parent dinner for students and their parents from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Donaghey Student Center Diamond Café.

Freshman Convocation

On Tuesday, Aug. 16, Freshman Convocation welcomes all new students to campus with feature presentations by university leaders. Faculty members participate in regalia as a show of support and commitment to the success of ��Vlog��ýLR students. The event will be held at 10 a.m. in the University Theatre in the ��Vlog��ýLR Center for Performing Arts. Interim Chancellor Dr. Zulma Toro will offer the university welcome and Dr. Julien Mirivel will deliver the keynote address. After convocation, students can get in the Trojan spirit with lunch, a pep rally, and an organizational fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the DSC Mall. They also can catch “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Donaghey Student Center Ledbetter Hall. Students can begin the first day of school with free donuts and coffee from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, in the Donaghey Student Center Foyer. In the evening, students can attend a karaoke session at 7 p.m. in the Donaghey Student Center Ledbetter Hall. The official campus kickoff for the new academic year is the University Assembly Meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, in DSC Ledbetter Hall. During the assembly, ��Vlog��ýLR will welcome its new chancellor, Dr. Andrew Rogerson. In addition, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Zulma Toro will discuss the new student success initiative, the Trojan Experience, the university’s diversity and inclusion plan, and enrollment. The weekend will begin with tailgating at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the ��Vlog��ýLR Coleman Sports Complex, followed by the first women’s soccer match against Northwestern State at 7 p.m. Other welcome back activities include T-shirt exchanges, Trojan Wars, ice cream with ��Vlog��ýLR Public Safety, and Meet the Greeks. A free dinner for parents will be held at 5 p.m. in the Diamond Café in the Donaghey Student Center with a raffle for box tickets to the Homecoming and Parents’ Day basketball games.
