Applications for Signature Experience Grants Open Until Oct. 15]]> The Signature Experience Program was established in 2017 to provide students with up to听 $1,000 in funding听 to complete a research project, creative activity, service work, or professional application project that will deepen their 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock experience. In the fall of 2021, faculty mentors will assist students in applying for this grant. Students will present their finished project in the spring semester at the Student Research and Creative Works Expo. To receive a Signature Experience grant, students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and have a faculty member to mentor the project. 鈥淚n the fall, you will articulate your research project and methodologies; hopefully getting supplies, and beginning听 to carry out your research in the spring semester,鈥 said Dr. Jeremy Ecke, director of undergraduate research. 鈥淭hink about it as a year-long opportunity to link yourself with mentors and gain experience in your major. We are interested in providing opportunities for students in creative work and disciplines that support service work and professional development.鈥 A portion of awards is reserved for freshmen, sophomores, and transfer students of the 2021-22 academic year. Another subset of awards is reserved for graduate students who do not have access to adequate funding. Prior awards and projects, incomplete prior projects, and equity in colleges, departments, and mentors will all be taken into account by Student Research and Creative Works Committee members in their review and awarding of grants to encourage new research projects and broad participation in the Signature Experience Program. Applications can be filled out at this link. Examples of abstracts, budgets, biographies, and past Research Expo programs are also available on the Signature Experience website. Williams Named Associate Vice Chancellor of Human Resources at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock]]> LaTonda Williams has been named the new associate vice chancellor of human resources for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.听 鈥淚 am very excited about having the opportunity to serve the campus in this capacity,鈥 Williams said. 鈥淲e are streamlining a lot of our procedures, and we are doing a lot of cross-training for our staff so we can be more efficient for all the employees on campus.鈥 In her new role, Williams will oversee the Department of Human Resources, recruitment, employee benefits, and the Office of Title IX. Williams has more than 30 years of experience in the HR field and brings a wealth of experience to her new role. In 2007, Williams joined 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock as an employee benefits manager. She鈥檚 also worked as the training and development manager, leave administrator, and employee relations manager before her previous role as Title IX director. As the new leader of human resources, Williams said she plans to revitalize the employee training and development program, create a new professional development program, and expand diversity and inclusion training on campus. 鈥淭he creation of a professional development program is something we are looking forward to in the future,鈥 Williams said. 鈥淚 think it鈥檚 very important to develop our employees. We want to offer more courses for employees who want to better themselves, learn new skills, and know how to better handle situations at work. We will be having more training for employees serving on search committees, microaggressions, and implicit bias. We are revamping the Yes Campaign, the service excellence training program, to bring it back to employees in a new and improved way. We also want to be more collaborative on campus regarding diversity and inclusion training and events.鈥 Williams earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in sociology from Henderson State University.听 When she moved to Little Rock, the first position she was hired in was as a human resources consultant and employee benefits administrator for CHI St. Vincent Health Systems. After that, Williams has never looked back on a career in human resources, often taking professional development courses, earning new certifications, and learning new skills to excel in the field. 鈥淚 found that I really liked human resources,鈥 Williams said. 鈥淚 am still working with people and still using the skill set I learned through my sociology degree. I took the opportunity to learn more and cross train. I believe in lifelong learning. I made sure that I was able to gain experience in all areas of human resources.鈥 At 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, Williams has earned graduate certificates in management and conflict mediation. She will graduate in 2022 with a Master of Public Administration.]]> Kuralt establishes funds to support student scholarships, faculty development in rhetoric and writing /news-archive/2020/09/29/kuralt-establishes-funds-to-support-student-scholarships-faculty-development-in-rhetoric-and-writing/ Tue, 29 Sep 2020 16:15:26 +0000 /news/?p=77596 ... Kuralt establishes funds to support student scholarships, faculty development in rhetoric and writing]]> A University of Arkansas at Little Rock professor is establishing a legacy to make a better future for students and faculty members in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing.听 Dr. Karen Kuralt, associate dean of the Graduate School and associate professor of rhetoric and writing, is celebrating her 20th anniversary at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock this fall. She has made a planned gift, currently valued at $100,000, to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. 鈥溙切腣log传媒 Little Rock is where I鈥檝e invested most of my time as an educator. This is part of my legacy,鈥 Kuralt said. 鈥淚 know these funds will go to something I care about, which is my students, their future, and my department.鈥 The first half of the gift will create the Karen Kuralt Endowed Graduate Student Scholarship. The funds will be used for education-related expenses including tuition, fees, books, and room and board for rhetoric and writing graduate students. After serving for more than a decade as the graduate program coordinator in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing, Kuralt has seen a need for scholarships that benefit graduate students. 鈥淢ost scholarships are only available for undergraduate students,鈥 she said. 鈥淲hile graduate assistantships are available, it鈥檚 very difficult for people who are online students or working full time to get a graduate assistantship. There are a lot of students who want to get a graduate degree but don鈥檛 get a lot of options besides taking loans.鈥 The second half of the gift will form the Karen Kuralt Endowed Faculty and Professional Development Fund, which will pay for rhetoric and writing faculty to attend conferences and trainings that enhance teaching skills. Kuralt has created many new classes for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock over the years and wants to provide more faculty members with the opportunity to participate in professional development opportunities.听 鈥淚f a faculty member needs additional training to teach a class our students need, then I want to provide that professor with the same support needed to keep their skills current and relevant,鈥 Kuralt said. 鈥淭his will ensure that we have a relevant program in the future. It鈥檚 good for our students, good for the economy of Arkansas, and good for keeping talented Arkansans in the state.鈥 Anyone who wishes to support students and faculty in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing can donate to these funds by following the links: Karen Kuralt Endowed Graduate Student Scholarship and Karen Kuralt Endowed Faculty and Professional Development Fund.  ]]> Free summer training available for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock employees /news-archive/2018/06/06/summer-employee-training/ Wed, 06 Jun 2018 13:53:53 +0000 /news/?p=70718 ...
