Bobbitt, 糖心Vlog传媒-Pulaski Technical College President Margaret Ellibee, and University of Arkansas at Little Rock Chancellor Andrew Rogerson unveiled the Metro 2 + 2 Degree program Aug. 10 at a news conference at the 糖心Vlog传媒 System office in Little Rock. The Metro Degree is a re-engineered articulation agreement between the two institutions. Students complete their first two years at in one of four degree areas and then transfer to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock for their final two years. They can choose among 44 bachelor鈥檚 degrees in the agreement. As an additional cost savings, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock announced a partnership with Rock Region METRO to provide free bus rides to students enrolled at the university. Last year, 糖心Vlog传媒-PTC signed a similar partnership with Rock Region METRO. The transit pass allows students to ride to and from both campuses at no cost and have free rides at any time on Rock Region buses and trolleys. Through the universal pass program with Rock Region, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock covers one monthly flat fee to Rock Region METRO in exchange for the ability for all 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students, faculty and staff to have unlimited use of the bus and streetcar system. With transit partnerships now at both campuses, students choosing the Metro Degree option will have four years of free transportation. 鈥淎s the state鈥檚 largest public university system, it鈥檚 our responsibility to use all available resources as efficiently as possible,鈥 Bobbitt said. 鈥淭hat includes finding ways to work collaboratively as a system to give students more affordable and accessible options. This is a great example of the 糖心Vlog传媒 System institutions working together to accomplish that goal.鈥 Another way for students to reduce college costs is to apply for scholarships, grants and financial aid. In 2016, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to students who transferred from 糖心Vlog传媒-PTC. 鈥淭he Metro Degree is specifically designed to help families and students streamline a quality, four-year degree,鈥 Ellibee said. 鈥淲hat鈥檚 new and exciting about this program is that we worked together with 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock to refine the transfer experience to be seamless and foolproof in very specific ways. That includes removing obstacles to success, like classes that don鈥檛 transfer.鈥 College debt and college graduation is a concern for both chancellors. 鈥淭he Metro 2+2 degree is exciting because it provides a very affordable pathway for regional students to get a bachelor鈥檚 degree 鈥 and this fits beautifully with 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 new focus on affordable quality education and its goal to help many more regional students attain a higher degree without debt,鈥 Rogerson said. 鈥淎lthough transfer programs are common across America鈥 and many of the students who come to the university have gone this route 鈥 with 糖心Vlog传媒-Pulaski Tech joining the University of Arkansas system, we realized it was time to re-engineer the partnership.鈥 Ellibee added, 鈥淲e are also grateful for the encouragement and support we have received from leaders in both cities, (North Little Rock Mayor) Joe Smith and (Little Rock) Mark Stodola, and from our Chamber of Commerce leaders, John Owens of the North Little Rock and Jay Chesshir of Little Rock. In addition to transforming our students鈥 lives, collaborative programs such as the Metro Degree also transform our cities. The majority of graduates from 糖心Vlog传媒-PTC and 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock stay in central Arkansas.鈥 Arkansas has the third-lowest college attainment rate in the country at just 21.8 percent, close to 9 percentage points below the national rate. 鈥淪o this is a message for future students in central Arkansas 鈥 attend your local institutions, use public transport and complete in a timely manner 鈥 that is the power of the Metro 2+2,鈥 Rogerson said. Cushman鈥檚 show 鈥淪hadows in the Water鈥 on display at Pulaski Tech]]> The director of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Art Gallery, Brad Cushman, has been selected for an art show at Pulaski Technical College.聽 鈥淪hadows in the Water鈥 will be on display through聽Nov. 10 in Pulaski Tech鈥檚 Windgate Gallery in the Center for Humanities and Arts, 3000 W. Scenic Drive in North Little Rock. The show features work created by Cushman from 1992 to the present. Cushman is a studio artist, curator, educator, and art collector. He has been the gallery director at 糖心Vlog传媒LR since 2000. He received a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Several new mixed media paintings will be included in this exhibit. Musical scores are incorporated into many of the new visual compositions with music written by James Wintle, who passed away in 2013. Cushman and Wintle were colleagues at Southeastern Oklahoma State University for 12 years. They often discussed ideas about art and music.
Brad Cushman's collage, "Shadows in the Water I," is featured in his art show at Pulaski Technical College.

Inspired by the handwritten quality of Wintle鈥檚 scores, Cushman created new work in honor of his former colleague. The paintings celebrate texture and color. Collages are creatively incorporated into the painted compositions. The artist created envelops using rice paper to hold collages. The transparent quality of the rice paper allows the viewer to see the collage, but the images are veiled. Cushman鈥檚 photography-based works, 鈥淔ilm/Strip/Tease鈥 and 鈥淏asement Games, Cir. 1967,鈥 are also included in this show. In 2001, Cushman was awarded the Grand Award for the 44th Annual Delta Exhibition for 鈥淔ilm/Strip/Tease.鈥 鈥淏asement Games, Cir. 1967鈥 originated from Cushman鈥檚 work with imagery from his family photo albums. 鈥淧hotographs tease our memory into remembering and forgetting certain elements of our past,鈥 Cushman said. 鈥淔ascinated with how we read photographs, I used my personal history as a departure point for making this work.鈥 The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
