��Vlog��ý Little Rock to host Business Office Brown Bag Lunch event

The University of Arkansas Little Rock will host a brown bag lunch with representatives from the university’s business offices Tuesday, Nov. 5. In the inaugural session of ASK BOBB, representatives from Admissions, Bursar’s Office, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Records and Registration, Transfer Student Services, and University Information Desk will be available for an open question and answer brown bag lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Donaghey Student Center G. Participants are asked to submit their questions in advance to this web page to ensure that representatives have enough time to answer as many questions as possible. More brown bag lunch sessions are planned for the future.

Gradfest to kick off March 6 and 7

University of Arkansas at Little Rock students who are graduating this spring can find all of their commencement day needs at Gradfest from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 6-7.�� The event will be held in the Lower Level Concourse in Donaghey Student Center between the ��Vlog��ý Little Rock Bookstore and Health Services Center. The deadline to apply for graduation is Friday, March 2. Caps and gowns will be available for purchase throughout Gradfest, along with official ��Vlog��ý Little Rock class rings and graduation announcements. Representatives from several university departments, including financial aid, records and registration, and graduate school will be present to speak with students about graduation applications, post-graduate opportunities, and commencement information. The Alumni Association will speak with students about the benefits of becoming a member, as well as the memorabilia they offer, including personalized bricks and college license plates. Students who attend the event will have the opportunity to complete a survey to be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $300 ��Vlog��ý Little Rock Graduate Packet. Included will be a cap and gown, a personalized brick, an alumni t-shirt, an alumni license plate frame, and an official ��Vlog��ý Little Rock diploma frame. Hundreds of courses available to students during summer months

Current or potential college students may want to use the summer months to advance their degree plans, expand work skills, or enjoy enrichment classes. From accounting to zoology, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock offers more than 800 classes in four separate summer sessions, including plenty of online courses. Tammy Harrison, director of ��Vlog��ýLR Office of Financial Aid, said summer classes are an opportunity to concentrate on a challenging course or get a head start on college. “For example, area students attending college elsewhere can join us in the summer to complete needed college requirements that can be transferred back to their home school,” she said. Harrison said lottery scholarship recipients may also want to enroll in the summer to make up needed hours or to improve a GPA to meet renewal requirements to keep a scholarship for the upcoming academic year. Financial aid is available to ��Vlog��ýLR students to help with the cost of summer school as they work to complete their degrees. Students may apply for financial aid by completing the ��Vlog��ýLR Summer Financial Aid Application in BOSS, just as soon as they register for their summer classes. ��Vlog��ýLR has a four-session summer schedule: Summer I is held May 27 – Aug. 5; Summer II is held May 27 – June 30; Summer III is held June 9 – Aug. 5; and Summer IV is held July 7 – Aug. 8. The regular registration deadline for Summer I and Summer II is by 4 p.m. May 23. Late registration for Summer I and Summer II is held from May 27 to 28 by 4 p.m. Summer III regular registration goes through June 6 by 4 p.m. and late registration will be June 9 – 10 by 4 p.m. Summer IV regular registration runs through July 3 by 4 p.m. Late registration will be July 7 – 8 by 4 p.m. For more information visit ualr.edu/summer. Outstanding student stories sought for upcoming graduation

Each semester, stories surface that shed light on some of our more interesting or outstanding ��Vlog��ýLR candidates for graduation.

The Office of Communications is seeking these stories, and we encourage you to share yours. Faculty and staff may also submit a student’s name to be profiled.

Spring Commencement will be held Saturday, May 17, in two ceremonies, at 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center. The William H. Bowen School of Law Commencement will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in the Wally Allen Ballroom of the Statehouse Convention Center. GradFest offers convenient commencement shopping

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock announces its biannual GradFest event, in which candidates for spring 2014 graduation may order their official graduation announcements and purchase their cap and gowns in one convenient location.��

Students can stop by the event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 5 and 6, in the lower concourse of the Donaghey Student Center, between Student Health Services and the ��Vlog��ýLR Bookstore.

During the event, students may also take care of other important items related to graduation, including:

Ordering class ring
Meeting with Alumni Association representatives regarding membership benefits and obtaining a personalized brick and collegiate license plate
Inquiring about graduate school programs and admission requirements
Visiting with Office of Records and Registration representatives concerning graduation application and commencement information
Meeting with Financial Aid representatives for an exit interview, which is mandatory for students with loans, loan indebtedness, debt management and lender information
Completing the graduation survey for a chance to win a $300 ��Vlog��ýLR Graduation Packet to include a cap and gown, personalized brick, alumni T-shirt, alumni license plate frame, and official ��Vlog��ýLR diploma frame.

Workshops offered to help those on academic probation, Jan. 10

Students are invited to attend workshops on Jan. 10 focused on time management, stress management, and study skills. The workshops will run continuously from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Success Center second floor conference room. The workshops are a new initiative offered through the ��Vlog��ýLR Academic Success Center (ASC), in coordination with Undergraduate Academic Advising, Records and Registration, and Financial Aid. Although the primary audience is returning freshmen and sophomore students recently placed on academic probation, any student who believes he or she may benefit from the workshops may attend. “These workshops are being offered to help students get their semester started��in a positive and helpful manner,” said ASC Director Kimberly Bright. In addition, Bright suggested students visit with their advisor about re-registering for certain classes in which a poor grade was received. Also, a visit to Financial Aid to see how probation may affect continued access to financial aid is highly recommended. “If a student received one or more poor grades, one of the best ways to avoid a��negative impact on their academic standing is to retake those classes,”��Bright said. “The sooner the student gets that GPA up, the quicker they are able to be in��good academic standing and off probation; this is something all of us��want for our students.” For more information about the workshops, call Bright at 501.569.3280.

Commencement ceremonies set for Dec. 14

More than 1,000 students are expected to participate in fall commencement ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Jack Stephens Center on the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus. Ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Both events will be available for viewing live online via the��Ceremony Live Stream��for friends and family who cannot attend. Graduates need to be at the Derek Fisher Court one hour before their respective ceremony begins. At the 9:30 a.m. ceremony, the following colleges will confer degrees:

College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
College of Education
College of Professional Studies

For the 3 p.m. ceremony, the following colleges will confer degrees:

College of Business
College of Science
George W. Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology
William H. Bowen School of Law

The Stephens Center will open for guests at 8 a.m. for the morning ceremony and 1:30 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony. Early arrival is recommended to ensure adequate time for parking. ��Vlog��ýLR reminds its guests that the campus is smoke free.

��Vlog��ýLR graduates are encouraged to join the Alumni Association and purchase a commemorative brick.

Current and potential students at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock are reminded to register for spring 2014 courses. Priority registration for juniors starts Thursday, Nov. 21 and goes until 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25. Sophomore priority registration is Nov. 26 through 4 p.m. Dec. 2. Freshmen priority registration runs Tuesday, Dec. 3 through 4 p.m. Dec. 6. Early registration for all others is Dec. 9 to 4 p.m. Jan. 3. Graduate students, post-baccalaureate degree students and ��Vlog��ýLR seniors have already been granted priority registration, which ends at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. The spring 2014 semester begins Monday, Jan. 13. Deadlines for applying, registering, and making payments may be found in the spring semester calendar.

Spring admission deadlines:

Jan. 3 Admission application and credentials for entering freshmen are due by 4 p.m. Jan. 10 Admission application deadline for all other undergraduates, except entering freshmen Jan. 17 Admission application deadline for graduate students

��Vlog��ýLR’s Fall 2013 Commencement will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, in two ceremonies, at 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.

Each semester leading up to commencement, stories of exceptional soon-to-be graduates emerge from across campus. This past spring, a mother and her daughter both participated in commencement as graduates, a young woman earned her biology degree after a 17-year hiatus, and another graduate became the only ��Vlog��ýLR student accepted to ��Vlog��ýMS with two non-science undergraduate degrees. In order to capture stories such as these mentioned, the Office of Communications is seeking stories about soon-to-be graduates.
