You have to break many glass ceilings to be seen and heard.鈥 Dash received the Outstanding Entertainment Entrepreneur of Los Angeles award Oct. 1 during the second annual Beauty In/Beauty Out Awards at the Los Angeles Theater Center. The goal of the awards ceremony is to recognize and celebrate inner and outer beauty and selfless works of true women leaders. Dash is one of the business accelerators and executive managers of the Women Entrepreneurs Network, one of the largest women鈥檚 entrepreneur groups in North America. She is a script reader at and a producer at Dash Global Media.

糖心Vlog传媒LR MBA student Rupa Dash received the Outstanding Entertainment Entrepreneur of Los Angeles award Oct. 1 during the second annual Beauty In/Beauty Out Awards at the Los Angeles Theater Center.

She also co-founded and is CEO of . This foundation creates a platform to put a spotlight on young women in business, entertainment, social entrepreneurship, and technology. Established in 2013, the foundation seeks to empower women by facilitating mentoring programs for 1 million women and girls worldwide by 2020. Dash received her bachelor鈥檚 degree in India and an entrepreneurship program certification from the University of California-Los Angeles Anderson School of Management. Dash moved to Arkansas from Los Angeles with her husband when he accepted a position at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She started the MBA program at 糖心Vlog传媒LR in January. In September, Dash was one of 14 talented speakers selected to participate in the annual TEDxMarkhamSt event. Since then, she has given many high-profile talks, including speaking at the United Nations, Indian International Film Market, Hollywood Women Leadership Panel, and HollyShort Film Festival. She credits her speaking success to her professors in the 糖心Vlog传媒LR Department of Applied Communication. When Dash realized she needed to become the public face for her company, she spent thousands of dollars on speech classes in Los Angeles. However, she said none of them taught her what she learned at 糖心Vlog传媒LR. 鈥淚 am very grateful for the Department of Applied Communications,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 have been getting more speaking engagements than ever before because of them. That is the biggest skill set that I have taken from this school. Three from 糖心Vlog传媒LR selected for TEDxMarkhamSt event]]> In its second year, is a program of local and self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to spreading ideas. TEDxMarkhamSt 2016 will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. The lineup will feature 14 talented speakers covering innovations in education, health, technology, and the arts. Speakers from 糖心Vlog传媒LR include:
  • Dr. Julien Mirivel, associate professor of speech communication and interim associate dean for student success, instruction, and engagement in the College of Social Sciences and Communication
  • Dr. Carolina Cruz-Neira, director of the Emerging Analytics Center
  • Rupa Dash, one of the winners of the 2016 student speaker competition hosted at Webster University

Mirivel, who was nominated for TEDxMarkhamSt by his department chair, Dr. April Chatham-Carpenter, will speak about the power of positive communication and how to communicate well with others. 鈥淚 do a lot of public speaking in the community, and it鈥檚 exciting to be able to share that in a different format,鈥 Mirivel said. 鈥淚 am trying to inspire people to communicate well at home and at work and tell them how to create great relationships. I really believe there is nothing more important than how we communicate.鈥 Additional speakers include:
