Suicide Prevention Week is Sept. 19-23]]> Every year, more than 800,000 people die from suicide.听 Suicide prevention is especially important on college campuses, since suicide is the second leading cause of death in the world for those ages 15-29, according to the The University of Arkansas at Little Rock鈥檚 Counseling Services is holding its fourth annual Suicide Prevention Week Sept. 19-23 to help combat suicide. The purpose of Suicide Prevention Week is to educate about campus mental health resources, reduce overall stigma concerning behavioral health issues, and promote help seeking behavior. Suicide Prevention Week will kick off with three selfie photo stations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19. The photo stations will be located in the foyer of the Donaghey Student Center and at tents near the Engineering and Information Technology Building and the University Commons Lawn area. 糖心Vlog传媒LR students and employees are encouraged to take photos and post them to social media with the hashtag #糖心Vlog传媒LRSPW to raise awareness of suicide prevention. The events will continue with brain games from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in Donaghey Student Center Diamond Caf茅. Brain games will feature mindball. On loan from the, the game measures brainwaves and challenges players to calm their minds in order to keep the ball from moving toward them. Magician Aaron Acosta will also provide entertainment during brain games. Acosta has generously donated 25 percent of his fee to the Suicide Prevention Week Foundation. Suicide Prevention Week will conclude with a proclamation by Chancellor Andrew Rogerson on the importance of suicide prevention and a memorial balloon release in honor of those affected by suicide. The proclamation and balloon release will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Donaghey Student Center Diamond Caf茅 and mall area. There will be live music, and Sodexo will provide a dessert bar. Campus schedules safety, suicide prevention events]]> Suicide Prevention Week (Monday-Friday) Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in college students, and during the week of Sept. 21-25, staff members at 糖心Vlog传媒LR Counseling Services hope to help destigmatize mental health problems and make people aware of the aid that鈥檚 available by calling the department at 501-569-3185. 糖心Vlog传媒LR has scheduled daily Suicide Prevention Week activities, coinciding with National Campus Safety Awareness Month. All activities are in the Donaghey Student Center.   • 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23:听Active shooter presentation at听Dickinson Auditorium.听This training program is designed to instill the survival mindset and teach realistic strategies for dealing with an active shooter situation on campus.
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24,听鈥淐an You Drive?鈥 at听Donaghey Student Center Mall.听Students will be taught about alcohol and the dangers of drunken driving during this alcohol awareness exercise.
  • Noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24:听鈥淒ying to Belong鈥 at听Donaghey Student Center, Meeting Room A.This anti-hazing program will present students with a historic account of hazing events and the devastating consequences. Participants are encouraged to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to hazing.
  • 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25,听Green Dot Amazing Race at听Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex.听The Green Dot Amazing Race is a team-oriented obstacle course designed to test knowledge about Green Dot and general campus safety principles.
