DeGray named Sun Belt Athlete of the Year]]> The Sun Belt Athlete of the Year award, which annually recognizes one female and one male student-athlete, is the highest individual honor given and based on athletic performance, academic success, outstanding leadership, and character. DeGray is the third female student-athlete from Little Rock to earn the honor and fifth overall, joining Rashad Jones-Jennings (2006-07), Chastity Reed (2010-11), Solomon Bozeman (2010-11), and Edina Begic (2014-15). She was honored alongside Georgia Southern men’s golfer Steven Fisk. “On behalf of the conference, I want to congratulate Ronjanae and Steven on receiving this honor. They epitomize what being a Sun Belt student-athlete is all about,” said Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill. DeGray led Little Rock to a share of the 2018-19 Sun Belt regular-season title and conference tournament title. The two-time, All-Sun Belt first-team selection averaged a team-leading 14.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. DeGray capped her career as a member of the school’s 1,000-point club (1,234 points) and all-time leader in field goal percentage (.485) and free throw percentage (.775). “I am very proud of the accomplishments Ronjanae has earned and this is certainly a great accomplishment for her and her team,” said Little Rock women’s basketball head coachÌýJoe Foley. “Ronjanae stood out as an enthusiastic, goal-oriented basketball player who was dedicated to the game and always remained very positive. It was through that hard work and dedication that she improved and rose to the top of the Sun Belt. This is a great honor for her and her teammates who helped her achieve so much. Trojans earn Sun Belt Academic Honors for 2018-19]]> To qualify for the Sun Belt Commissioner’s List, student-athletes needed to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, while honor roll recipients held a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49. Baseball and soccer comprised the largest total number of honorees, fitting as they were the two Little Rock programs that were recognized as the Sun Belt Team Academic Award winners for the past season in their respective sports. Baseball landed 15 on the commissioner’s list with an additional 12 on the academic honor roll, while soccer placed 22 total student-athletes on the lists, including 20 on the commissioner’s list. Men’s and women’s track and field and cross country combined to have 19 student-athletes recognized, 11 of which were on the commissioner’s list. Volleyball added 10 student-athletes, men’s golf registered seven, and women’s golf added six, all of which were named to the commissioner’s list. Little Rock’s schedule includes 10 events, spanning seven different states, including the Trojans’ annual host tournament in Hot Springs Village. The season begins with a pair of familiar locations for the Trojans as Little Rock opens the fall schedule Sept. 14-16 at the South Alabama Intercollegiate in Mobile. The Trojans then head north to Columbia, Missouri, for the annual Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by Missouri, Sept. 30–Oct. 2. A pair of new tournaments open the month of October for Little Rock, beginning with a return trip to Alabama for the Chris Banister Golf Classic, hosted by Jacksonville State, Oct. 7-8 in Glencoe. The Trojans then make the short trip up to Jonesboro for the Arkansas State Lady Red Wolves Classic, being held Oct. 14-15. Little Rock closes out the fall portion of its schedule with the annual Little Rock Women’s Golf Classic, being held Oct. 27-29 at Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village. One of the highlights of the season, the Trojans will welcome over a dozen programs to central Arkansas for the three-day fall finale. After a nearly four month winter break, Little Rock returns to the course with three familiar tournaments to start the spring season. The first of those will be held Feb. 10-11 when the Trojans compete in the Texas State Invitational, being held in Kyle, Texas. The Trojans then make their yearly trip to Arizona for the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan and held February 21-23 in Rio Verde, Arizona. Little Rock will then make a return trip to Dade City, Florida, for the 2020 Spring Break Shootout, hosted by Western Kentucky March 16-17. The final tune-up before the Sun Belt meet will take the Trojans south to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, taking part in the LSU Tiger Golf Classic April 4-5. That leads into the 2020 Sun Belt Conference Championship, being held April 20-22 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida. Wylie enters the 2019-20 season with five returners, including four sophomores, all of which have seen significant playing time during their Trojan careers. The Trojans begin their conference schedule on the road at ULM on Dec. 19, followed by the yearly trip to Lafayette to take on Louisiana Dec. 21. Following the New Year, the Trojans open up the home portion of its schedule by playing three games in five days at the Jack. The busy week begins with Texas State on Thursday, Jan. 2, followed by UT Arlington two days later on Saturday, Jan. 4. The home stand concludes with Little Rock’s lone game of the year against Georgia Southern on Monday, Jan. 6. Little Rock then plays the first of its two split weekends the following week, beginning with a showdown at Troy on Jan. 9 before returning home to take on South Alabama at the Jack Saturday, Jan. 11. The Trojans head east to the Carolinas the following weekend, beginning at Coastal Carolina on Jan. 16 before heading north to Boone for the showdown with Appalachian State on Jan. 18. Another split weekend leads to a stretch where the Trojans will play four out of five at home, starting with the home tilt against Troy on Thursday, Jan. 23. After Little Rock travels to Mobile to face South Alabama on Jan. 25, the Trojans return home for three-straight, returning the games against the Carolina foes with Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Jan. 30, and Appalachian State on Saturday, Feb. 1. Little Rock will have a week off after the game against the Mountaineers before welcoming rival Arkansas State to the Jack for their yearly trip, facing the Red Wolves on Saturday, Feb. 8. A three-game road trip then awaits the Trojans, who start it in Texas the following weekend. First up is the trip to San Marcos to face Texas State on Feb. 13, leading into the trip to north Texas to face UT Arlington on Feb. 15. Little Rock then makes its yearly trek to northeast Arkansas, facing the rival Red Wolves in Jonesboro on February 22. The home stretch of the 2019-20 season begins with the final two games of the year at the Jack Stephens Center as Little Rock hosts ULM on Thursday, Feb. 27, before the home finale against Louisiana on Saturday, Feb. 29, in Little Rock’s yearly Homecoming game. The regular season finale will take place three days later as the Trojans head to Atlanta for a Tuesday night showdown with Georgia State on March 3. Little Rock then aims to qualify for the 2020 Sun Belt Conference championship, which will take on a slightly different format this season. The opening round will once again be a play-in game, with the number seven and eight seeds hosting the nine and 10 seeds on Saturday, March 7. From there, the tournament will progress through conference sites with the five and six seeds hosting the second round games on Monday, March 9, followed by the three and four seeds serving as hosts for the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 11. The winner of those two rounds will then join the numbers one and two seeds in New Orleans for the semifinal and championship rounds, being held Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, at Smoothie King Center. All home games will tip at 6:30 p.m. on weeknights at the Jack Stephens Center this season with Saturday tip times set for 2 p.m. The lone exception to that is the game against South Alabama on Jan. 11, which will get underway at 4:30 p.m. Season tickets for the 2019-20 Little Rock basketball schedule are currently on sale by contacting the Trojan ticket office at 501-565-8257. To be eligible, a player must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. All six posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring semester, helping lead the Trojan women’s golf program to a combined 3.726 GPA during the competition semester. Each boast a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher with the program’s cumulative mark just shy of 3.7. For Blennow, the honor marks her fourth WGCA All-American Scholar accolade of her career as she earned her degree in marketing in May. Wakeford-Wesmann was recognized for the second time in her Trojan career while the four freshmen each picked up their first career All-American Scholar honors. The six selections for Little Rock is the most of any Sun Belt Conference school as nearly 1,100 golfers from across all levels of collegiate athletics were recognized. The half dozen selections also sets a new program record for the Trojans, who had five golfers selected in 2018, 2017, 2015, and 2014. Founded in 1983, the WGCA is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. He is the second Trojan to receive the recognition under the tenure of Head Coach Chris Curry, the last being Hunter Owens in 2017. Pittman recently broke Little Rock’s all-time record for career home runs, currently sitting at 25 for his career. DeGray, coming off a season where she averaged 13.8 points, 5.6 boards, and .508 shooting from the floor, is the returning statistical leader for numerous categories. The Odessa, Texas, native was a Sun Belt Conference First Team selection for the regular season and conference tournament, started 11 contests and appeared in 32 games. She tallied her first career double-double by tying her season high with 23 points while putting up a career-high 13 rebounds in the Trojans’ overtime win at Louisiana on March 3. Lasker saw the most playing time out of any freshman last season. She started 24 games and was one of only four Trojans to appear in all 33 contests. She drained a freshman record-setting 57 three-pointers, the sixth most in a single season, and dished out the second most assists, 89. Arkansas State took second with 58 points and one first-place vote while Louisiana came in third with 51 points and one first-place vote. Over in the East Division, Coastal Carolina was tabbed as the favorite with 67 points and eight first-place votes. Trailing by just four points was South Alabama as they accumulated 63 points and four first-place points. Appalachian State took third with 44 points while Troy was fourth with 37 points. Georgia State and Georgia Southern rounded out the division with 22 and 19 points, respectively. Arkansas State’s Carlisa May was picked as the league’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year while Texas State’s Micah Dinwiddie was tabbed as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. After finishing fourth in the Sun Belt conference last season, the Trojans picked up a conference tournament victory for the second consecutive season. Little Rock finished with a final record of 9-9-3 with a 4-4-2 record in conference play. Little Rock finished with 82 points in the poll, 10 points behind third place Troy (92 points). South Alabama led the way with 117 points, followed by 2017 runner-up Texas State (97 points). Aparicio Gili garnered First Team All-Sun Belt honors for the second consecutive season. The Spanish forward tallied three goals and two assists during her junior campaign. She was instrumental in the attack as she scored a crucial goal in the Trojans’ conference tournament win over Arkansas State. Seifert earned Second Team All-Sun Belt honors in 2017 as she anchored the Trojan defensive back line. While the senior from Potsdam, Germany, was a force in the defense, she also managed two goals and one assist. This included a game-winning goal against UT-Rio Grande Valley. Lastly, Greulich was a First Team All-Sun Belt selection in 2017 as well as a Second Team recipient in the season prior. The Potsdam, Germany, native led the Trojans in points (17) and goals (8). The midfielder recorded a hat trick against Murray State and added a brace against conference foe Georgia State. Greulich was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 24 for her performance against the Panthers. She tallied the most shots and shots on goal for the maroon and silver. Greulich appeared in all 21 games for Little Rock and started all but one. The Trojans open their 2018 season on the road in Conway, when they take on Central Arkansas. The Bears posted a record of 11-10-0 last season with a 7-4-0 record in the Southland Conference.]]>
