Middle Eastern Film Series continues with ‘This Is Not a Film’]]> The University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s new Middle Eastern Studies Program Film Series continues Monday, April 16, with a screening of “This Is Not a Film.”  The documentary covers the Iranian government’s attempts to repress pro-democracy protests in 2009. The screening, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. in Donaghey Student Services Center Room 104 and will be followed by a discussion about the film. This clandestine documentary was shot partially on an iPhone and smuggled into France in a cake for a last-minute submission to Cannes Film Festival. It depicts the day-to-day life of acclaimed director Jafar Panachi during his house arrest in his Tehran apartment while Panachi was appealing his sentence of six years in prison and a 20-year ban from filmmaking. Middle Eastern Studies Program introduces new film series]]> Middle Eastern Studies Program will begin a film series this spring to highlight important art from the Middle Eastern region and to facilitate discussion about important contemporary issues. The first film, “Omar”, will screen Monday, March 12, at 6 p.m. in the Student Services Center, Room 104. The 2013 film by is a love story set against the backdrop of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The film will be followed by a discussion. The film series will continue with “Amreeka” on March 27, “Incendies” on April 2, and “This is not a Film” on April 16. All films are free and open to the public.
