For over 30 years, the men’s and women’s golf coaches at Little Rock have relied on one man to outfit their players with the best apparel possible, and that is Kim Backus.” “In addition, his passion for the game of golf, our student-athletes, and this community are second to none. He is one of the most respected people in the Little Rock golf community and has made an incredible impact on the lives of our current and former student athletes and coaches. I am excited to be able to honor him this August for all that he has done for Little Rock golf.” Backus has been an avid supporter of Little Rock men’s and women’s golf programs and he and his wife Priscilla have also been long time season ticket holders for basketball. “We’re very appreciative of Kim Backus and his decades-long support of our Trojan student-athletes,” said Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Chasse Conque. “He has gone above and beyond to assist our golf program and it seems only fitting to honor him at this year’s Golf Shamble.” Backus will join Norwood, John Elliott, Dan Snider, and Bruce Munson as past honorees at the annual shamble. “Kim has done more for golf in Arkansas and for the Little Rock golf program than any person I know,” said former head coach and Trojan Hall of Famer Wyn Norwood. “He’s done it from a position not wanting or expecting any gratitude. He does it for his love of golf and for the community.” The Little Rock Golf Shamble has evolved into an incredibly successful event, raising funds to support both the Trojan men’s and women’s golf programs. The 2018 event raised nearly $56,000 for the teams, which goes directly to help the Little Rock golf student-athletes compete at the highest level. The entry fee for this year’s event is $1,600 per team as each foursome will compete with a “celebrity,” including former and current Trojan golf student-athletes. Team entries will be served on a first-come, first-served basis as spots fill up fast. Faculty and staff lead in giving to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock]]> Faculty and staff at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock have once again surpassed the national average for faculty and staff giving with the 2018 ALL IN Campus Campaign. Last year, more than 700 faculty and staff members – 46 percent of all employees – contributed to the campaign. Faculty and staff giving is important to the university鈥檚 overall fundraising efforts because foundations and corporations look for a high percentage of employee giving when making funding decisions. The national average for faculty and staff giving is 25 percent. 鈥淭he level of support received from our faculty and staff members inspires,鈥 said Christian O鈥橬eal, vice chancellor for university advancement. 鈥淚 cannot express how grateful I am to serve with faculty and staff members who show their support.鈥 With the Campus Campaign, the emphasis is on participation rather than dollar amounts. 鈥淓ach gift, whether $1 or $1,000, is truly significant,鈥 said Samantha Wiley, director of annual giving. Funds raised through the annual Campus Campaign provide funding for programs, department and scholarships. 鈥淎s a faculty member and parent of a 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock alum, I鈥檝e witnessed the impact first-hand that these scholarships can have on a student鈥檚 success,鈥 said Tom Clifton, chair of the Department of Art and Design and a Campus Campaign steering committee member. 鈥淚 think it鈥檚 important that we commit to the university as we ask others to do so.鈥 Aresh Assadi, another member of the Campus Campaign steering committee, said the level of faculty and staff participation is a point of pride for the university. 鈥淎s a first-generation student who has benefited immensely from receiving a college education, I am happy to be a part of this steering committee,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 believe that we are raising money for a great cause, and it has been incredibly heartwarming to witness the commitment that our faculty and staff have for our students. The internal giving rate at this campus is much higher than most.鈥 Recurring payroll deductions increased by 2 percent in 2018 over 2017. Additionally, the Office of Alumni and Development received several new planned giving commitments which will benefit students in perpetuity. Campus Departments with 100 percent participation in the campaign received commemorative 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock water bottles provided by the alumni association. The Lot 16 entrance on the northwest corner will now be known as the Dr. Bob Young Entrance. The student-athlete entrance, located on the ground floor, is now the Mary and Rick Edwards Family Entrance. Additionally, the Athletic Administrative offices located on the third floor will now be known as the Patricia and Mark L. Pollack Athletics Suite. The suite will lead to the newly named Victor Jacuzzi Family Office of the Director of Athletics. “The support we continue to receive from Little Rock athletic supporters has been overwhelming,” said Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics聽Chasse Conque. “To be able to announce and unveil these three naming opportunities at the Jack Stephens Center is an honor, and I can’t thank Dr. Young, Mary and Rick, Patti and Mark, and Vic enough for their leadership giving and continued support of our student-athletes. Private support from constituents is the lifeblood of any athletics program, and for Little Rock Athletics to sustain and build on our current success, support from the community is vital. We are fortunate to have a loyal base of generous partners to help fulfill our mission of Graduating Champions.”
Little Rock Athletics is pleased to announce a number of recent legacy gifts to the Trojan Athletic department. These generous donations, which total nearly $1 million, will greatly enhance the student-athlete experience for all 15 Trojan Athletic programs.

In addition to the legacy gifts, an additional $70,000 has been raised through private funds to support the John F. Torbett Memorial Scoreboard at the Donaghey Aquatic Center. Little Rock student-athletes once again set program records this past year in the classroom, posting a department-record 3.30 cumulative grade point average in the fall聽2017 semester. Trojan student-athletes have achieved a department-wide GPA聽of 3.0 or better for 12-straight semesters and have posted the highest Graduation Success Rate of any Division I institution across the state of Arkansas in five of the last six years, graduating 82聽percent of Trojan student-athletes. The successes in the classroom have helped led to a record-setting fall season by Trojan student-athletes. Women’s soccer, under first-year head coach聽, set a program record for wins in a season, en route to winning the Sun Belt Conference tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Volleyball advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt tournament and reached the postseason for the first time since 2014, making an appearance in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. Successes were also had on the golf course, as men’s golf ended the fall season with a GolfStat ranking of 84, its best since the 2002-03 season.
