Little Rock athletics announces 2020 hall of fame class]]> The University of Arkansas at Little Rock athletics program is pleased to announce three inductees that will comprise the 2020 Trojan Athletic Hall of Fame class. Stacy Johnson-Smith (’92), Derin McMains (’04), and Ray Tucker will officially take their place among the Trojan all-time greats during Hall of Fame Weekend, being held Jan. 10-11, 2020.聽 “In Stacy, Derin, and Ray we have three individuals who have accomplished an unbelievable amount throughout their careers as Trojans and in life,” said Director of Athletics George Lee. “To see how far our soccer and baseball programs have come, it is because of the efforts and achievements of Stacy and Derin who helped set the bar high for our student-athletes today. Ray Tucker is the purest example of one who has the true heart of a Trojan and what he has helped us build here throughout the years is truly special.”聽 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock will hold an induction ceremony for the three honorees on Friday, Jan. 10, the night prior to the Trojans’ basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 11. A Letterman’s social will be held Friday, Jan. 10 at the Jack Stephens Center following the induction ceremony. Former letter winners will have the opportunity to visit with their programs through individual activities the morning of Jan. 11 and will receive two complimentary tickets to the doubleheader while being honored during halftime at the men’s game. With the additions of Johnson-Smith, McMains, and Tucker, the Little Rock Athletics Hall of Fame now consists of 71 individuals and four teams. Stacy Johnson-Smith (women’s soccer, 1992) Stacy Johnson-SmithJohnson-Smith’s name is found throughout the Little Rock soccer record book, as she was one of the early pioneers that helped set the foundation for the Trojan soccer program. Johnson-Smith is the program’s all-time leader in goals (33) and is third all-time in points (74), playing for head coaches Logan Fleck (1988) and Roy Stanley (1989-91).聽 A prolific scorer, Johnson-Smith still holds the program record for goals in a game (four, which she did twice) and a season (15 in 1990). Her 33 points in 1989 is still the program’s single-season record. A three-year captain for the Trojans, Johnson-Smith was an honorable mention NAIA All-American in 1990 and helped lead Little Rock to its first-ever postseason appearance in 1989. Johnson-Smith graduated with her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1992, then returned to earn her master’s degree in educational leadership in 2003. She has spent 26 years in education in Arkansas as both an educator and administrator and currently serves as the Assistant Commissioner for Learning Services at the Arkansas Department of Education. Photo by Andy Kuno/MLB via Getty Images.McMains spent two seasons with the Trojan baseball program after transferring from Westark College and made his presence felt during his two seasons at Gary Hogan Field. McMains ranks among the Top-10 in a number of statistical categories for the Trojans, including Little Rock’s all-time leader in career batting with an average of .366. McMains holds the program’s single season record with 62 runs in 2000, finishing with 116 for his career and ranking fourth all-time. He ranks second all-time with 112 RBI for his career and was a two-time All-Sun Belt and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region selection. McMains also earned a pair of All-America honors in 2001, earning third team ABCA/Rawlings honors and was a second team Verizon Academic All-American honoree.聽 McMains was drafted in the 11th round of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft by the San Francisco Giants and spent six seasons in the Giants’ minor league system, being named an All-Star in 2003 and earning the Harry S. Jordan Award for the Giants’ best spring training rookie in 2006. He was a member of the Giants’ Player Development staff, earning three World Series rings in 2010, 2012, and 2014. McMains is currently the Peak Performance Coordinator for the Seattle Mariners. Ray Tucker (broadcaster) Ray TuckerTucker has become synonymous as the “Voice of the Little Rock Trojans,” having been associated with the department for the last 35 years. Tucker has served as the play-by-play radio voice of the Trojans since 2000, calling some of the most memorable moments in program history, including Sun Belt Championships and NCAA tournament appearances in 2011 and 2016.聽 Tucker has served as the host of numerous Trojan coaches shows on both television and radio since 1984, dating back to when he was the Sports Director at KTHV Channel 11. A two-time Sportscaster of the Year for the state of Arkansas, Tucker won a pair of Best Play-By-Play honors from the Associated Press Broadcasters Association for his calls against Baylor in 1988 and Arkansas State in 1993.聽 Tucker has made a lasting impression on the sports media landscape in Arkansas outside of his involvement in Little Rock Athletics. He has worked in a play-by-play and analyst capacity for Arkansas Razorback, Memphis Tiger, and Oklahoma State football broadcasts and hosts Ray Tucker’s Arkansas Outdoors, the top outdoor radio show in the state, while also serving as a co-host for DriveTime Sports on 103.7 The Buzz. The slate includes 10 home matches at the Jack Stephens Center, as well as four challenging pre-conference tournaments. Little Rock’s 2019 season begins with a program first as the Trojans will head north to Fayetteville for the Arkansas Tournament Aug. 30-31. Little Rock will face Montana State on Friday morning, followed by the second all-time meeting against the Razorbacks that evening. The tournament concludes with a Saturday afternoon meeting with Northwestern State at Barnhill Arena. The second week of the season takes Little Rock to Tulsa, Oklahoma, competing in the Oral Roberts Tournament Sept. 6-7. The Trojans will once again play a pair of matches on Friday, facing Illinois State in the morning before an afternoon tilt against Air Force, before facing the host Golden Eagles Saturday morning. Little Rock stays close to home the third week of the season, making its yearly appearance in the UCA Tournament Sept. 13-14. The Trojans face Ole Miss, then take on Oral Roberts once again, Friday at the Farris Center in Conway. This year, however, the final match will switch to the Jack Stephens Center as the Trojans and Bears will meet Saturday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. in the programs’ Governor’s I-40 Showdown match of 2019. The final non-conference tournament will be in Martin, Tennessee, with Little Rock competing in the UT Martin Tournament Sept. 20-21. Once again, the Trojans will play a pair of matches on Friday, taking on Mercer and Evansville, closing out the pre-conference schedule Saturday afternoon against the host Skyhawks. The 2019 Sun Belt Conference schedule begins on the road for Little Rock with the Trojans traveling to Alabama for the first weekend of competition, facing Troy Sept. 27 and South Alabama Sept. 28. That leads into a four-match home stand for the Trojans at the Jack Stephens Center, facing the Texas and Carolina foes in back-to-back weekends. The stretch begins against UT Arlington on Friday, Oct. 4, followed by reigning conference champion Texas State visiting the capital city on Saturday, Oct. 11. Little Rock remains home the following weekend, taking on Coastal Carolina on Friday, Oct. 12, leading into the match against Appalachian State the following night. Little Rock ventures south to Louisiana the following weekend, beginning with the showdown with the Ragin’ Cajuns in Lafayette on Friday, Oct. 18. The Trojans then head to Monroe, looking to maintain its streak against the Warhawks on Saturday, Oct. 19. A three-match home stand for Little Rock begins with the yearly clash against rival Arkansas State on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Jack. The following weekend, Georgia State (Nov. 1) and Georgia Southern (Nov. 2) head to Little Rock for the Trojans’ lone matches of the season against the East Division foes. The final stretch of the regular season begins with a key three-match road trip for Little Rock, beginning with a Tuesday night showdown in Jonesboro against the Red Wolves on Nov. 6. The Trojans then head to the Lone Star state, battling Texas State in San Marcos on Friday, Nov. 8, before traveling north to Arlington for a Sunday afternoon matinee against the Mavericks on Nov. 10. Little Rock closes out the regular season at home, welcoming ULM to the Jack Stephens Center on Friday, November 15. The Sun Belt schedule then concludes Saturday, Nov. 16, as the Trojans battle Louisiana in the final home match of 2019. The Trojans will then look to make a return trip to Texas as the 2019 Sun Belt Volleyball Championship will be hosted by Texas State Nov. 21-24 in San Marcos. Little Rock hopes to build off the success of the 2018 season, one which saw the Trojans notch 19 victories, including going 10-6 in conference play, and earn a postseason berth in the NIVC. During his coaching career, Erisman has mentored 20 NCAA All-Americans and four NCAA individual champions. 鈥淭oday starts a new chapter for Little Rock Trojan Athletics with the hiring of Neil Erisman as our first head wrestling coach,鈥 Conque said. 鈥淲e had tremendous interest in the position and we feel coach Erisman is the right person to lead our program at Little Rock. Neil brings a deep understanding of the sport, a passion for leading young men and a commitment to doing things the right way, giving us great confidence that bright days are ahead for Little Rock wrestling.鈥 鈥淢y family and I would like to thank Chasse Conque, Chancellor Andrew Rogerson, and the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock community for welcoming us to the Trojan family,鈥 Erisman said. 鈥淚 am very excited for this opportunity, and I鈥檓 looking forward to getting to Little Rock to begin my work as the Trojans鈥 first head wrestling coach.鈥 Erisman has spent the past four seasons at the University of North Carolina where he has played a key role in helping the Tar Heels improve on the national stage. In his four seasons in Chapel Hill, Erisman has helped guide UNC to an overall record of 41-28, finishing third in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2015-16 and 2017-18. During his time in Chapel Hill, Erisman has mentored four ACC individual champions and four NCAA All-Americans, highlighted by the 2017-18 season when Troy Heilmann (149) and Ethan Ramos (174) both claimed ACC titles. Heilmann then went on to place fourth in the NCAA Championships in Cleveland with Chip Ness (184) placing seventh, earning the duo All-America honors as the Tar Heels tied for 20th, their highest finish since placing eighth in 1995. The Tar Heels also produced a pair of ACC champions in 2015-16 in Evan Henderson (149) and Ethan Ramos (174) with Joey Ward finishing seventh in the NCAA championships at 141. In his first season in Chapel Hill, Erisman worked closely with Ethan Ramos, who finished second in the ACC at 165 before placing sixth at NCAAs. Additionally, Erisman earned a reputation as a top recruiter, helping North Carolina post top-10 recruiting classes in his first three seasons. 鈥淚 have been privileged to spend four seasons at the University of North Carolina, working with my great friend and head coach Coleman Scott,鈥 Erisman said. 鈥淚 want to give a very special thank you to coach Coleman Scott, Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham, Vince Ille, the Tar Heel coaching staff, and the entire support staff for their constant support during my time at UNC. Chapel Hill will always hold a special place in our hearts and is a place we were proud to call home.鈥 Prior to his time in Chapel Hill, Erisman spent one season as the assistant wrestling coach at Stillwater High School in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He helped guide the Pioneers to the 2014 Oklahoma 6A state championship while also being named the 2014 Oklahoma High School National Team Coach. Erisman鈥檚 coaching career began at his alma mater, serving as a graduate assistant coach at Oklahoma State from 2011-13 under legendary coach John Smith. One of his main priorities was helping with the development of the Cowboys鈥 freshman wrestlers while helping continue the tradition of Oklahoma State wrestling. During his two years as a graduate assistant, OSU placed sixth at the 2012 NCAA Championships, followed by a Big 12 championship in 2013 while finishing second at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Erisman put together a stellar collegiate career in Stillwater, compiling an overall record of 92-36 and was a four year letterwinner for the Cowboys from 2007-11 under coach Smith. He was the 2011 Big 12 Champion at 157 pounds after placing second in 2010 and third in 2009, being named an Academic All-Big 12 selection in 2008. A native of DeSoto, Kansas, Erisman compiled a 150-5 prep record at DeSoto High School and was both a state and cadet national champion. He earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree in business administration from Oklahoma State in 2011. He and his wife, Kelli, have three children 鈥 Duke, 6, Oakley, 5, and Zane, 1. Erisman is now tasked with the challenge of beginning to compile the Trojans鈥 first recruiting class, leading up to the program鈥檚 inaugural season in 2019-20. A press conference to formally introduce coach Erisman will be held in the coming weeks.  ]]>
