Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology has named new chairs for three departments. 鈥淭he new chairs will strengthen the college as we strive to serve students and engage the community,鈥 said Lawrence Whitman, dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology. 鈥淭he college looks forward to their leadership and we welcome them in their new roles.鈥 The new department chairs, whose appointments begin July 1, include: McMillan is a professor in the Department of Earth Sciences who focuses on geomorphology, sedimentology, and geographic information systems. She holds a doctorate in geology from the University of Wyoming, a master鈥檚 degree in environmental science and engineering from Colorado School of Mines, and a bachelor鈥檚 degree in geology from Colorado College. Nisanci is a professor of mechanical engineering technology. He holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree and master鈥檚 degree in industrial engineering from Orta Dogu Teknik University in Turkey and a master鈥檚 degree and doctorate in engineering production from Loughborough University in England. 聽 Pidugu is a professor of mechanical engineering technology who was instrumental in establishing 糖心Vlog传媒LR鈥檚 American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers student chapter. Student projects were judged on the novelty and clarity of their research, the soundness of their methodology, the potential application of their findings, and the student鈥檚 ability to explain their project to an expert and lay audience. More than 90 unique entries were submitted to the expo, an increase over last year that Dr. Jeremy Ecke, chair of the expo committee, attributes to a rise in interest in research on campus. 鈥淚t was more vibrant this year. There were times on the floor when there was a roar in activity,鈥 Ecke said. The expo is a great opportunity for students to learn how to conduct themselves in a professional manner. 聽 鈥淚t is definitely a moment of professionalism for students. This is a time for students to learn to present themselves and their work to their peers and judges,鈥 he said. 鈥淎nd it鈥檚 also important for other students to see this expo. Students often don鈥檛 realize that there are opportunities to conduct and present research and creative works on campus.鈥 A complete list of winners and their projects include:

Out of 22 teams, the 糖心Vlog传媒LR team of John Kline and John McNeill of the 糖心Vlog传媒LR Department of Engineering Technology placed second in the circuit design competition. The day-long contest required integration of knowledge from various areas of electronics. Kline and McNeill were given a blind engineering challenge requiring them to design on paper a project they then had to build, write a report on, and later deliver a presentation for judges. This year’s project involved designing a communication system with digital processing. The 糖心Vlog传媒LR team finished second only to University of Missouri, Kansas City. They received a cash award of $250 for their effort. 糖心Vlog传媒LR students have the highest record of winning in design contests in Region 5, according to Professor and Advisor Hirak Patangia. He said the high ranking is a testament to the strong emphasis of the 糖心Vlog传媒LR program on both design and practical implementation. Kline is a traditional student from Conway with a knack for electronics since grade school. 鈥淗e is a student whoJohn and John would build circuitry at home to explore concepts taught in class not covered in the lab,鈥 said Patangia. Kline has accepted an offer with an engineering firm upon graduation in May. McNeil is a non-traditional, full-time student with a family and a full-time job with Kohler company in Sheridan. 鈥淗e was honored to represent 糖心Vlog传媒LR at the conference, even though he works the night shift and the van to New Orleans had to pick him up in Sheridan,鈥 said Patangia. A total of 12 students, half from systems engineering and the other half from electronics and computer engineering technology, joined Patangia for the trip to New Orleans.]]>
