Through ArkReach, a new joint online program, 糖心Vlog传媒LR staff and students can use their university-issued library cards to borrow and return select materials fromwithout ever visiting one of the system鈥檚 branches. Similarly, CALS patrons can reserve and receive 糖心Vlog传媒LR materials without setting foot on campus. 鈥淣o longer will CALS patrons have to place interlibrary loan requests and then wait to borrow books from 糖心Vlog传媒LR,鈥 said Carol Coffey, head of CALS鈥 Library Resources and Digital Services. 鈥淎rkReach will allow them to place holds on the 糖心Vlog传媒LR materials themselves and receive the books in just a few days as easily as they receive books from other CALS branches.鈥 The program increases the accessibility of materials like fiction, videos, and CDs for 糖心Vlog传媒LR鈥檚 faculty and students, while giving CALS patrons an opportunity to reserve some scholarly materials unique to 糖心Vlog传媒LR. It鈥檚 available through the online catalog of both institutions. 鈥淲e are pleased that ArkReach will expand our partnership with the Central Arkansas Library System and enhance our commitment to our students, faculty, and university community,鈥 said Deborah J. Baldwin, associate provost of 糖心Vlog传媒LR Collections and Archives. 鈥淚n times of increased materials costs, partnerships like this one offer a smart way to expand the institutions鈥 already rich collections.鈥 While the program currently is a partnership between the two institutions, those involved hope to extend its scope 鈥 and its benefits 鈥 throughout the state of Arkansas by welcoming other library systems in the future. The official launch of ArkReach coincides with another cooperative effort of the institutions: CALS Library Card Day at Ottenheimer Library on the 糖心Vlog传媒LR campus. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 糖心Vlog传媒LR students and staff can sign up at the campus library for a CALS card. The card entitles users to to music, movies, magazines, TV programs, eBooks and audiobooks as well as the entire CALS collection. On Thursday, CALS staff members will demonstrate the online features available through its network, and Ottenheimer staff will provide demonstrations of ArkReach. 糖心Vlog传媒LR is a metropolitan research university that provides a quality education through flexible learning and internship opportunities. Ottenheimer Library grant boosts student GIS research /news-archive/2015/06/24/ottenheimer-library-grant-boosts-student-gis-research/ Wed, 24 Jun 2015 21:35:58 +0000 /news/?p=62011 ... Ottenheimer Library grant boosts student GIS research]]> The 糖心Vlog传媒LR Collections and Archives division recently was awarded a $4,000 grant to develop Geographic Information System (GIS) support for student research at Ottenheimer Library in Little Rock. With the funds from Amigos Library Services 鈥 one of the largest library service networks in the nation 鈥 the division will implement a system that will have librarians leverage available datasets and assist students in the use of GIS research techniques. The grant makes it possible for the library to install a GIS workstation, train librarians and staff on GIS theory and methodology, and support the development of an interdisciplinary GIS project in collaboration with faculty. GIS is particularly applicable to the social science community-engaged research that the university promotes. 糖心Vlog传媒LR currently offers a certificate in geospatial technology and incorporates GIS methods and theory in a wide range of disciplines, including geography, earth sciences, anthropology, business, criminal justice, engineering, health studies, history, sociology, and interdisciplinary studies. 鈥淲e are excited about the opportunity the Amigos grant presents to us,鈥 said Associate Provost Deborah Baldwin. 鈥淭he 糖心Vlog传媒LR Collections and Archives division has a new vision for a technology-rich library and archives organization where it will be a hub for students to use information and technology resources for collaboration and scholarship,鈥 Baldwin said. Amigos grant funding will provide seed money for one of the first steps in supporting that vision. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock was one of two universities to receive a 2015 Amigos Fellowship and Opportunity grant. Amigos Library Services is a not-for-profit, membership-based organization dedicated to serving libraries. Founded in 1990, the Amigos grant program has awarded over $120,000 to foster resource-sharing and development.
