Rotary Club donates $1,000 to Trojan Food Pantry]]> The 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock’s Trojan Food Pantry will be better stocked this fall thanks to a $1,000 cash donation from the Rotary Club of Little Rock Midtowne chapter. Members of the Rotary Club of Little Rock Midtowne presented an oversized check on July 8 to Aresh Assadi, a counselor in 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 Counseling Services and other university employees. The gift was one of the last donations made by the club as it merges with the West Little Rock Rotary Club, of which Assadi is a member.聽聽 The donation was 鈥渁 nice way to end an era and begin a new chapter,鈥 the chapter announced on its Facebook page. 鈥淚 know what it is like to try to feed yourself on a tight budget while in college, and that is why I have been helping the pantry any way I can since 2015-2016,鈥 Assadi said. 鈥淭he 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Food Pantry is actually one of our service projects. Rotary has given three checks and three carts to the pantry. My fellow Rotarians also provide weekly donations as well.鈥澛 The Food Pantry also receives generous donations from Walmart, Kroger, Natural Grocers, Fresh Market, Target, PCSI, American Gold and Silver Exchange, Arkansas Family Dental, Altitude Trampoline Park, and many other organizations and individuals. The Trojan Food Pantry provides food to 200-250 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students, staff, and faculty each month who experience food insecurity. The pantry operates your-round, and in the summer, it offers fresh vegetables and produce grown in the Campus Garden. 鈥淲e thank the Midtown Rotary Club for their generous donation to the Trojan Food Pantry,鈥 said Amber Wolf, coordinator of the Chancellor’s Leadership Corps, Trojan Marketplace Food Pantry and Career Closet. 鈥With their donation, we will be able to keep our pantry stocked and continue the fight to end hunger on our campus.鈥 The Trojan Pantry is located on the second floor of the Administration North building. Health Care and the Law symposium will discuss cost of health care in Arkansas]]> The second symposium of a three-year series on health care policy and law in Arkansas will be held at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law Friday, Oct. 20.聽 This year鈥檚 Health Care Policy and the Law Symposium will focus on the cost of health care in Arkansas. Speakers will include local and national health care professionals and policy makers who will discuss factors that drive the cost of health care in the state. These topics include health care payment reform and how socioeconomic factors like income and county of residence affect a person鈥檚 health care and health behaviors. The symposium will also cover the, where health care and legal professionals work together to promote a healthy population. “Bowen is excited to host this second symposium focusing on addressing Arkansas鈥 significant health care challenges, many of which do not lend themselves to easy answers,鈥 said John DiPippa, dean of Bowen School of Law. 鈥淲e believe that our second topic, the cost of health care in Arkansas, will demonstrate the opportunities possible when we collaboratively look for solutions.鈥 The keynote speaker is Michael Chernew, the Leonard D. Schaeffer Professor of Health Care Policy and the director of the Healthcare Markets and Regulation Lab in the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School. His speech is entitled, 鈥淧ayment Reform: Evidence and Future Directions.鈥 聽 Featured speakers include Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Vic Snyder, former Arkansas state senator and U.S. congressman. 鈥淏y bringing together some of the most sophisticated health care and legal thinkers in the state as well as experts from elsewhere in the country, we hope to promote an informed discussion and to serve as a source of information and ideas for Arkansas鈥 policymakers,鈥 DiPippa said. The symposium series, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield, is designed to foster thoughtful, intellectual debate about health care issues in Arkansas. The goal is to promote informed policy making and to establish a platform for generating research projects. The event is also sponsored by University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Clinton School of Public Service. Attorneys, physicians, pharmacists, and nurses have the opportunity to earn professional development credits through the conference. Registration is $20 . Students may attend the event for free.
