糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 latest corporate partnerships follows partnerships with other great central Arkansas employers that provide opportunities for working adults to earn a college education, including Arkansas Federal Credit Union, Little Rock Water Reclamation Authority, ATG/Applied Tech Group, North Little Rock School District, Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, CHI St. Vincent, Saline Memorial Hospital, Arkansas Surgical Hospital, and Amazon. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock now has a total of more than 20 thriving partnerships with central Arkansas companies and organizations.

Jerry and Madelyn Adams donated $30,000 to create the Jerry and Madelyn Adams Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship, which will provide assistance for education-related expenses including tuition, books, fees, and room and board. The scholarship will be awarded to a full- or part-time undergraduate computer science major with a GPA of 3.25 or higher and will be based on financial need and/or merit.

鈥溙切腣log传媒 Little Rock is a terrific school, and my time on the Board of Visitors and advisory board has shown me what an impact the university can make for its students,鈥� Jerry Adams said. 鈥淓ven during my time at Acxiom, we recruited heavily from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock because the students were very mature and applied themselves well in their careers. I am very excited about 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 leadership, and I think the school and the students have an exciting future ahead of them.鈥�

This donation is a part of the Centennial Campaign, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 largest fundraising effort to date. The university is working to raise $250 million by its 100-year anniversary in 2027.

Jerry Adams, who serves as a member of the advisory board for the Donaghey College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, said the couple decided to make the donation after hearing about innovative steps the Department of Computer Science has taken in recent years.

These innovations include the addition of a cybersecurity major in 2021 and a recent partnership with the Arkansas Center for Data Sciences to create a program to strengthen educational pathways for computer science majors through the combination of scholarships, internships, apprenticeships, and workforce development.

鈥淚 also want to acknowledge Dr. Mary Good鈥檚 incredible impact on me,鈥� Jerry Adams said. 鈥淢ary Good, who served as founding dean of the former Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology, was recruited by former Chancellor Chuck Hathaway just before I joined the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Board of Visitors. I took over as chair of BioVentures after Mary joined 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. We worked on many important projects together. Her contributions to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock were enormous. She was a good influence on me and thousands of others.鈥�

The Adams鈥� recent donation is a profound investment and testament to their commitment to higher education in Arkansas.

鈥淓ducation is the future,鈥� Jerry Adams said. 鈥淲e live in a knowledge economy, and it鈥檚 becoming more and more critical for our people to have competent computer skills. It鈥檚 so important for people to understand technology and have the education to do so to have a productive, 21st century life.鈥�

鈥淓ducation is everything,鈥� Madelyn Adams added.

Jerry Adams graduated with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in English from the University of the South, and Madelyn Adams studied at the University of Iowa. The couple moved to Arkansas in 1973, where Jerry Adams was one of the founders of Acxiom. He retired from Acxiom in 2007 after 34 years serving in a variety of senior leadership roles. He then founded the Arkansas Research Alliance in 2008 and served as president and CEO until 2021.

He continues to stay active in the community serving on a number of boards, including the Arkansas Community Foundation, Interfaith Center, Arkansas Imagination Library, Conway Development Corporation, Arkansas Center for Health Improvement, Syrian Emergency Task Force, and Winrock International.

The Adams live in Conway and are the proud parents of two sons and four grandchildren.

The innovative new program will emphasize a combination of scholarships, internships, apprenticeships, talent management, and workforce development with ACDS industry partners to help provide a career path for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students to fill the state鈥檚 growing need for information technology workers.

鈥淲e are privileged and excited to present this unique, new opportunity for students, employers, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, ACDS, and the workforce of the State of Arkansas,鈥� said Dr. Albert Baker, chair of the Department of Computer Science at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. 鈥淎s students receive an internship and/or apprenticeship through our partnership with ACDS, our highly qualified students can graduate with a good amount of experience, all while receiving academic credit and a fair wage for their work.鈥�

The support pathway for students provides professional work experience as well as employment opportunities and benefits for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students. Meanwhile, the program enhances workforce development in Arkansas by providing employers opportunities to hire well educated job candidates.

鈥淭his is our innovative approach to solve the tech talent gap,鈥� said Lonnie Emard, director of apprenticeship at Arkansas Center for Data Sciences. 鈥淲hether we are finding college students who haven鈥檛 had the chance for an internship or recruiting those who haven鈥檛 had a chance to go to college, we knew we needed to find a way to nurture our efforts to add capacity to our skilled workforce in the state. With this partnership, we can give a lot more students the chance to cut their teeth on meaningful work experience earlier in their college career so they can solidify their career paths.鈥�

The 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Department of Computer Science has several endowed scholarships that they are using to attract talented high school students while providing support for freshmen and sophomores.

Students who apply for an internship and/or apprenticeship with ACDS will undergo a competitive application process including a technical and critical thinking assessment, interviews, and a background check. Once approved, successful applicants will receive talent career training before they are matched with one of ACDS鈥檚 industry partners.

Students who are selected for internships receive valuable work and mentorship experience while interning for one with of ACDS鈥檚 employer partners. The ACDS provides wages for the interns, which are sponsored by federal grants ACDS has received. This is a win-win as employers get early access to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 computer science and cybersecurity students and students get exposure to area employers.

Meanwhile, students selected for apprenticeships will be hired as full-time employees with benefits who receive on-the-job training from an experienced mentor while earning a competitive salary. Most apprenticeships last at least one year, which gives the student time to complete their undergraduate degree while their financial obstacles are minimized. Apprentices have the added bonus that some of their work is eligible for academic credit. If they work for a company that provides tuition reimbursement, the apprentice may be eligible to use these benefits for their remaining credit hours as they complete their college degree.

鈥淪tudents who follow this career pathway program will graduate with lower net expenses and real work experience that will definitely make them stand out on their resumes,鈥� Baker said. 鈥淭hey will enter the workforce with knowledge of all the great employers that are available in Arkansas so that we can retain our homegrown talent.鈥�

Since ACDS began its apprenticeship program, 127 partner companies have provided 700 apprenticeships to Arkansas residents.
