The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has welcomed four new art exhibitions to kick off the fall semester in the Windgate Center of Art and Design. The exhibitions showcase a diverse range of artistic talent from an internationally recognized illustrator to a master woodturner to a contemporary mixed-media artist and a promising student artist.

The first exhibition, 鈥淗ans Weissflog: Klein und Fein,鈥 will be on display in the North and South Galleries through Sept. 28. Weissflog, a renowned German artist, is celebrated for his precision woodturning and intricate vessel designs. His work, which blends technical mastery with delicate artistry, has earned him some of Germany鈥檚 highest honors in the field of craft.

A second exhibition, 鈥淒rawing is Magic: The Books and Illustrations of John Hendrix,鈥 is on display in the Brad Cushman Gallery through Oct. 3. Hendrix, a New York Times best-selling author and illustrator, has contributed artwork to publications such as The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, National Geographic, and Esquire. He currently serves as the Kenneth E. Hudson Professor of Art and the founding chair of the MFA in Illustration and Visual Culture program at Washington University in St. Louis.

The exhibition, 鈥淐hris Revelle: What Remains,鈥 will run through Oct. 17. Revelle, director of community engagement at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, brings an accomplished background in painting, drawing, and teaching, including faculty roles at Arizona State University and the Savannah College of Art and Design in Hong Kong.

The last exhibition features the work of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock student Amanda McFarland, who is a winner of the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Linda Blaine Flake Endowed Art Scholarship. The scholarship was created by Leslye Shellam, the daughter of Linda Blaine Flake and L. Dickson Flake. Shellam created the scholarship opportunity to honor her mother, a respected Arkansas watercolorist. The scholarship recipients are invited to feature their work in a solo exhibit at the Windgate Center of Art and Design.

The exhibition, 鈥淎manda McFarland: Weather Through Portraiture,鈥 runs Aug. 25 through Oct. 3 in the Ann Maners and Alex Pappas Gallery. McFarland’s show is focused on drawing portraits done with oil on canvas and charcoal on paper.

鈥淭hese exhibitions reflect the breadth of contemporary art today from masterfully engineered objects to powerful illustrations and socially engaged artwork,鈥 said Brian Young, gallery director at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. 鈥淲e are thrilled to bring such exceptional artists to the campus and community.鈥

A closing reception will be held for all the artists鈥 exhibitions from 5-7 p.m. on Sept. 24.

The 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends. 鈥淚 am very excited to join 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock,鈥 Young said. 鈥溙切腣log传媒 Little Rock has given a great deal of priority to the visual arts. The Windgate Center of Art + Design is an impressive space. There is a very experienced staff here, including Nathan Larson, assistant gallery director, as well as a great permanent art collection to work with. Everything about this position seems to be a really great fit, and I look forward to bringing exhibitions to campus that will really inspire our student body, staff, and visitors.鈥

With a rich background in curating and managing art exhibitions, Young is set to elevate the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 art galleries to new heights.
