After the 11th class day at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, undergraduate and graduate headcount is up 2% and 140 students for fall 2026, with student semester credit hours up 5.1% compared with the same time last year. Undergraduate enrollment continues to lead that growth, with headcount up 3.1%, or around 178 students, and undergraduate credit hours increasing 5.8%, as of September 9th.

Growth is particularly strong among new students. Combined, undergraduate first-time freshman and transfer students are up around 50 students. In all, more than 8,200 students are choosing to call 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock home this fall.聽

鈥淭hese preliminary results show that more students and families are recognizing both the quality and affordability of a 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock education,鈥� said Chancellor Christina S. Drale. 鈥淭hat reflects years of work to strengthen the value we offer students through affordability, academic quality, hands-on learning, and the support they need to succeed. We are thrilled to welcome the first fall class of our second century.鈥�

The increase in student semester credit hours is another encouraging sign, Drale said, because it indicates students are enrolling in more coursework as they progress toward their degrees.

鈥淐redit-hour growth matters because it reflects students making meaningful progress toward completing their degrees,鈥� Drale said. 鈥淥ur responsibility now is to make sure every student has the resources and support to thrive from their first day through graduation.鈥�

Students are beginning the fall semester during a time of momentum across academics, research, student success, and athletics. This year鈥檚 students are part of a milestone moment for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, as the university celebrates its centennial and 100 years of expanding educational opportunity and serving Arkansas. This summer also marked the university鈥檚 move into the United Athletic Conference following the baseball program鈥檚 historic season and first appearance in an NCAA Super Regional.

The university also continues expanding opportunities for students through nationally recognized artificial intelligence research, a growing cybersecurity initiative that provides hands-on learning while serving communities across Arkansas, and a new graduate certificate in health informatics that launched this fall.

鈥淪tudents are looking for a university that delivers both opportunity and value,鈥� said Dr. W. Cody Decker, vice chancellor for student affairs and chief data officer. 鈥淭hese preliminary numbers suggest more students are finding that at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock.鈥�

While undergraduate enrollment continues to grow, graduate enrollment remains an area of strategic focus. Preliminary graduate headcount is down 3.1%, a decline of less than 40 students, while graduate student semester credit hours are flat. The decline is concentrated primarily among international students. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is responding by strengthening graduate recruitment, adding workforce-focused programs, and increasing financial support. Beginning this fall, minimum graduate assistant stipends increased to $10,000 for master鈥檚 students and $15,000 for doctoral students 鈥� the university鈥檚 largest investment in graduate assistant stipends in more than a decade.

With the fall semester underway, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is focused on helping its growing student body make progress toward graduation. Students have access to academic advising, tutoring, career development, student organizations, and other resources designed to support their success throughout their time at the university.

The station began in , after the Little Rock School Board approved plans for a radio station at the new Metropolitan Vocational Education Center. The station gave high school students real-world experience to prepare for broadcasting careers, and 14 years later, the Little Rock School District and 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock teamed up to create K糖心Vlog传媒R, the university鈥檚 radio station. In 1987, the station鈥檚 studios moved into Stabler Hall at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock.

Now, nearly 40 years later, Little Rock Public Radio is moving from University Plaza to a new home in Stabler Hall, bringing the station back to the heart of campus with a fully renovated studio and state-of-the-art broadcast technology.

The relocation project represents a major investment in the station鈥檚 future. After nearly two decades operating with aging equipment, Little Rock Public Radio will now broadcast from a modern space equipped with advanced technology and extensive backup systems. These upgrades ensure greater reliability and security, promising a higher-quality, more consistent listening experience for the community.

While the new equipment and studio provide Little Rock Public Radio with a more reliable foundation for broadcasting, the return to Stabler Hall also brings the station back to its roots as an educational resource.

For General Manager Jonathan Seaborn, being back on campus creates an opportunity to build on the station鈥檚 longstanding connection to student education and become more involved in campus life.

鈥淚t鈥檚 nice to actually be on campus and accessible to students from an educational standpoint,鈥� Seaborn said. 鈥淲e want to work more with departments on campus to help support them, and we want to have that student interaction and work-study, independent study through the studio. We want to be a resource.鈥�

The return to campus gives Little Rock Public Radio an opportunity to reconnect students with hands-on broadcasting experiences, work more closely with university departments, and become a more active part of campus life.

To celebrate its return to campus, the station is hosting the Little Rock Public Radio Open House at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, on Trojan Way. will begin with opening remarks from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Chancellor Dr. Christina Drale, Friends Board Vice President Kimberly Lee, and Seaborn, followed by a performance by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and tours of the station鈥檚 new state-of-the-art facilities. It will develop the next generation of the state’s workforce through hands-on learning and teamwork, said Chancellor Christina S. Drale. From faculty and staff, to students and community members — seasoned experts to eager neophytes — “this workshop is for you to expand your horizons.” 

Trojan Forge, which had its grand opening Aug. 25, features a handful of 3D printers, a sewing machine, heat presses, sublimation printers, embroidery machines, vinyl cutters, a buttonmaker, a laminator, a soldering iron kit, cameras, a sound booth and podcast studio, and various crafting supplies, among other offerings. The opening of Trojan Forge was one of many Welcome Week events on campus of the 2026-27 school year, as the university celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Located in Ottenheimer Library, Trojan Forge fulfills the university’s goals of access, experience, attainment, research, and community engagement, and “you can’t get much better than that,” Drale noted during Tuesday’s ribbon cutting ceremony. Dedicated to professional readiness, Trojan Forge will help students gain the confidence and develop the skills necessary to enhance their career prospects. 

Roughly a year ago, a prototype event engaged more than 200 students, demonstrating the desire for a space like this that would not only offer unique tools, but act as a gathering spot, said Brandon Sollars, Learning Commons coordinator.  “We want them to feel inspired to create and innovate.” 

Members of the Ottenheimer Library Vision Partners Program — student ambassadors and partners for the campus library — were critical in the development of Trojan Forge. 

“I enjoy the idea of students creating something for students, and this group doesn’t just advocate for students, but does real work,” such as the Trojan Forge project, said junior Ella Campbell, who became a Vision Partner in January 2025. “We had a makerspace at my high school” — the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts () in Hot Springs — “that so many people used, (not only) as a place where people came to create things, but (find) community, and I thought, ‘I’d love to see a space like that on campus here.'” 

There can never be enough ways for a campus community to gather together, so “any space that does that is amazing, and needed,” said Campbell, a native of the Hot Springs area majoring in environmental geology and anthropology. “I’m really excited to see the space evolve” as campus and community members find variegated uses for the tools inside, and more equipment gets added via requests. 

The 3D printers will “definitely” be highly popular, as they offer “so many different uses, and anyone can use them,” but Campbell is most intrigued by the sewing machine, she said. “I’m an amateur sewist, but I really love the buttonmaker, too.” 

Trojan Forge also received a $5,000 grant from Trojan Champions Fund to “kickstart all the amazing projects we’re going to have,” Sollars said. “We’re going to invite faculty, staff, and students to pitch ideas, and then we’ll fund materials for those projects” with the grant money. 

The better experiences students have on campus, the more likely they are to become involved alumni after graduation, so the grant is an investment in the present and the future, noted Guy Choate, president of the Alumni Association. A makerspace like Trojan Forge is “a differentiator” for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, so helping fund it is “a no-brainer for us,” and it contributes “the cycle of building a better university.” 

Trojan Forge will also engage the larger community with various monthly themes that invite use of its equipment and technology. 

“We want to develop 12 months of programming” to offer throughout this centennial celebration year of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, and far into the future, Sollars noted. “We’re going to start in September with a 3D printing workshop,” with additional details on that event — and others — available on the Trojan Forge website.

For some University of Arkansas at Little Rock students, Monday marked the beginning of their college experience; for others, it meant returning to a familiar campus in a new role, taking on fresh responsibilities, or beginning their final year as a student.

There is an unmistakable rhythm to the first day of classes: students double and triple check their schedules, coffee cups make their way across campus, friends stop to catch up between classes, and student organizations welcome new and returning Trojans.

The rain may have moved the celebration indoors, but it didn’t dampen the first-day excitement as students gathered for the First Day of Class Photos/Centennial Celebration 鈥� the first day of classes in a yearlong celebration of the university’s 100th anniversary.

Students filled the Donaghey Student Center Foyer Monday to take first-day photos, wave Trojan flags, listen to music from a DJ, and celebrate the university’s centennial with themed cupcakes from Community Bakery while signing the centennial banner. This event was just the beginning, with additional centennial celebrations planned throughout the academic year, while Welcome Week events throughout this week.

For freshman Nancy Giron, the first day was already bringing some of the experiences she was hoping for when she arrived on campus.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been a really good first day,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 almost got lost on my way to my classes, but I managed to find my class, and I even made a new friend.鈥�

Giron plans to major in psychology and is looking forward to learning more about campus and meeting new people.

For sophomore civil engineering major Christion Livingston, the first day was also a new beginning, as Livingston transferred to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock from Arkansas State University.

鈥淚鈥檝e been exploring,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 actually my first day on campus, so I鈥檝e just been soaking it all in.鈥�

Livingston said he is looking forward to success in his classes, including chemistry lab, while making new friends and taking advantage of new opportunities.

For Rana Olwan, the start of this semester marks another new chapter at the university she already knows well.

Olwan completed both her bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, graduating with the latter last semester. Now, she is beginning her first semester as a Ph.D student in computer science.

鈥淚鈥檓 most excited for being involved in Student Government Association, Graduate Student Association, and many other activities I wasn鈥檛 able to do during my master鈥檚 and bachelor鈥檚,鈥� said Olwan, who is serving as a graduate senator in the Student Government Association and as the DCSTEM (Donaghey College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) senator in the Graduate Student Association.

While some students are just beginning their 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock journeys, senior management major Ainsley Kendall is entering her final term as SGA president.

鈥淭his is my second and final term as SGA President, and I鈥檓 super super excited about what SGA is going to be able to do for our students because we鈥檝e really grown,鈥� Kendall said.

Kendall is already looking ahead to a busy semester of student activities, including a pickleball event hosted by SGA later during Welcome Week, as well as Winterfest on Nov. 17. She served on the Winterfest committee last year and is excited to help for another year.

Monday’s mix of first-time students, transfer students, graduate students, and campus leaders reflected the many different beginnings represented on the first day of the university鈥檚 centennial year.

As students posed for photos and signed their names to the centennial banner, they were not only celebrating 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 history, but beginning another chapter of it themselves.

Welcome Week begins Thursday, Aug. 20, with the Welcome Back BBQ from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Trojan Lane, inviting students and their families to settle in and get a taste of campus spirit. Later that evening, cheer on the Little Rock Soccer team as the Trojans open the season against the University of Miami from 6 to 9 p.m., with free admission and free food for attendees.

Families take center stage Friday, Aug. 21, during the first-ever Resident Parent Reception from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Donaghey Student Center (DSC). Campus Living is introducing this event to give parents and students a fresh opportunity to connect with staff, ask questions, and share one last goodbye before the semester begins.

Saturday, Aug. 22, turns up the fun with RecFest from 2 to 5 p.m. at the DSC Fitness and Aquatics Center, featuring games, contests, music, and free swag for the first 100 students. Then grab some friends and relax with snacks and a featured film during An Evening at the Movies from 6 to 9 p.m.

As the weekend winds down Sunday, Aug. 23, take the stage for karaoke from 2 to 4 p.m. in the DSC Upper Concourse and belt out your favorite songs with fellow Trojans.

The first day of classes arrives Monday, Aug. 24, along with the First Day of Class Photo and Centennial Celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Trojan Way. Snap a commemorative photo, sign the Centennial banner, and share your vision for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock’s next 100 years before wrapping up the evening at the Block Party on Trojan Lane from 6 to 8 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 25, offers one of Welcome Week’s busiest lineups. Start the day with Paws and Relax from 10 a.m. to noon on the first floor of the Ottenheimer Library, where free spirit shirts await, along with friendly therapy dogs ready for belly rubs. At noon, celebrate the grand opening of Trojan Forge, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock’s new makerspace designed for hands-on creativity and collaboration, then end the evening at longtime Welcome Week favorite, Casino Night, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Trojan Cafe. Test your poker face, roll the dice, and try your luck at classic casino games, with fun money keeping the competition friendly.

Looking to find your community? Wednesday, Aug. 26, features Meet the Greeks from 6 to 8 p.m. in the DSC (Ledbetter rooms A-C), where students can connect with fraternity and sorority members and explore Greek life, which has more than doubled in membership in recent years.

On Thursday, Aug. 27, start your morning at the campus Starbucks, where new men鈥檚 basketball coach Travis Ford will be a guest server from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Later that day, bring your best random facts to Trivia Night, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Ottenheimer Library Room 202. Campus and community members gathered Thursday, July 16, at the southeast corner of 28th Street and Campus Drive for the dedication ceremony. The event included remarks from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Chancellor Christina S. Drale and Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, Jr., a graduate of the university, followed by the unveiling of the new signs. During the ceremony, Scott also presented a commemorative proclamation on behalf of the City of Little Rock recognizing 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 centennial celebration. 

“One hundred years, a centennial, higher education, economic development, the fabric of a capital city: that is the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, (and) I’m a proud graduate of this university,” Scott said. “On behalf of the City of Little Rock, I share my appreciation for this university and its 100 years of steadfast service, 100 years of sacrifice, and 100 years of success.鈥�

The signs not only recognize聽 the university鈥檚 centennial but also its longstanding place in Arkansas and the city of Little Rock. While 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock has occupied three locations throughout its history, it has called its current campus home for over 75 years, growing alongside the city it has served for a century.

You can’t go to any public square, any pulpit, any process of progress across this entire state and not meet a 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock graduate,” Scott said. “That鈥檚 the type of impact they have.”

The idea for custom signage originated with dedicated 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock alumnus and Board of Visitors member Larry Golden, who envisioned using the university’s signature maroon color and Trojan head logo to create a more recognizable campus identity and to highlight 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock’s presence in the surrounding community.

鈥淪treet signs do more than direct traffic,鈥� Drale said. 鈥淭hey create a sense of place. They tell people they’ve arrived somewhere that matters. Beginning today, everyone who enters our campus will be welcomed by signs that proudly reflect this university.鈥�

The custom signs were made possible through a partnership with the City of Little Rock and the university’s facilities management team. In collaboration with the City of Little Rock and its Public Works Department, the university designed custom street signs and identified key campus intersections for the new signage.

The street sign dedication is one of several centennial initiatives recognizing the people, places, and partnerships that have shaped 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock over the past century while looking ahead to its next 100 years.

“These signs now become part of that story,” Drale said. “They will welcome prospective students on their first campus visit, families celebrating graduation, alumni returning home, and countless others who will discover all that happens here.”

糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock will mark its Centennial with a yearlong celebration from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, honoring its past and present while looking ahead to its next century of impact.

“Reaching our Centennial is both a celebration and a moment of reflection,” Chancellor Christina Drale said. “The vision and determination of those who founded this institution created opportunities that have transformed lives for generations. As we honor the people, achievements, and milestones that shaped our first 100 years, we are also looking forward to a future filled with possibility for our students, our community, and our state.”

The university began in 1927 when Little Rock Junior College opened in what is now Little Rock Central High School. Founded to expand access to higher education in central Arkansas, the institution quickly grew beyond its original home and moved to its current campus in 1949, establishing a permanent foundation for future growth.

In 1957, Little Rock Junior College became Little Rock University, marking its transition from a two-year college to a four-year institution. The change expanded educational opportunities for students in central Arkansas and established the university as a destination for students seeking to earn bachelor’s degrees without leaving the region.

A new chapter began in 1969 when Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller signed legislation merging Little Rock University into the University of Arkansas System, creating the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. At the time, what was then known as 糖心Vlog传媒LR offered 28 undergraduate programs and enrolled approximately 3,500 students. Within a decade, the university had expanded to 73 degree programs, including 14 graduate programs. 

Today, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is known for expanding access to higher education, advancing research that addresses real-world challenges, developing Arkansas’s workforce, and building partnerships that strengthen communities across the state.

As the university prepares to enter its second century, the Centennial offers an opportunity to reflect on that remarkable journey and celebrate the people, achievements, and milestones that made it possible.

Throughout the Centennial year, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock will share “100 Moments of Impact,” highlighting the people, achievements, innovations, and defining moments that shaped the university’s first century.

Students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members can also take part in events, exhibits, and traditions that unite generations of Trojans and honor the university鈥檚 legacy.

“The Centennial is an opportunity to celebrate the people who built 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, the students and alumni who continue to shape its story, and the possibilities that lie ahead,” said Carrie Phillips, chair of the university’s Centennial Planning Committee. “We want this year to bring together generations of Trojans while showcasing the impact this university has had on our city, our state, and the lives of those we serve.”

The dedication of new 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock-branded street signs on July 16 will kick off the university’s Centennial celebration and welcome visitors to campus for years to come. When students return for the fall semester on August 24, they’ll celebrate the first day of classes with Centennial-themed cupcakes and the opportunity to sign a commemorative banner that will be preserved in the university’s centennial time capsule.

The Centennial celebration will also be woven into many of the university’s longstanding traditions. At BBQ at Bailey on October 7, alumni and friends will receive special centennial giveaways during the event. During Winter Fest, attendees will get a special preview of the newly renovated Shellam Flake Planetarium before it officially reopens this spring after nearly two decades.

The celebration will continue throughout the spring with the opening of a special history exhibit at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Downtown in February and a Centennial campus picnic celebrating every decade of Trojan history in March. The university will conclude its Centennial year with the burial of the Centennial time capsule, preserving memories and messages from the milestone celebration for future generations.

The Centennial arrives at a transformative moment for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. During its 100th year, the university will celebrate the successful completion of the Centennial Campaign, a historic effort expected to raise $250 million in support of scholarships, faculty, technology, and academic excellence. The campaign has already increased the university’s endowment by more than 200 percent, creating opportunities for future generations of students and strengthening the university’s long-term impact on Arkansas.

“The Centennial Campaign is a powerful reflection of what can happen when alumni, donors, and friends believe in the future of this university,” said Christian O’Neal, vice chancellor for university advancement. “As we celebrate 100 years of impact, we are also building a foundation for the next century. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is inviting alumni, friends, and community partners to support the return of the planetarium through a new seat sponsorship program.

Following a $1.2 million gift to restore and modernize the Shellam Flake Planetarium, the university is offering a limited opportunity for supporters to sponsor seats inside the facility. Each sponsored seat will include a personalized nameplate displayed for five years.

Sponsors may choose to recognize an individual, family, organization, or honor the memory of a loved one. Seat selections will be available on a first-come, first-served basis once commitments are confirmed.

Funds raised through the program will support the planetarium鈥檚 educational mission, including:

The space will feature student artwork in adjacent outdoor areas, involve students in developing the planetarium鈥檚 visual identity, and provide business students opportunities to create and implement marketing plans.

The centennial celebration will begin July 1, 2026, marking 100 years since the university鈥檚 founding. Events throughout the year-long celebration will reflect on the institution鈥檚 history and explore its future direction.

A university-wide Centennial Committee began meeting in mid-March and will continue to meet monthly, with subcommittees convening regularly to guide key focus areas of the celebration.

鈥淎s we begin planning for our centennial, we have a meaningful opportunity to recognize the people and milestones that have shaped 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock,鈥� said Dr. Carrie Phillips, chair of the Centennial Committee. 鈥淛ust as importantly, this effort is about positioning the university for continued growth and impact in the years ahead.鈥�

Some of the events being planned as part of the centennial celebration include: 

• A celebration marking the successful close of the university鈥檚 Centennial Campaign, which has already garnered significant philanthropic support from thousands of donors 
• A curated history exhibit highlighting key moments and milestones in the university鈥檚 development
• A community-wide service project reflecting 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 commitment to service
• A storytelling initiative showcasing defining moments and voices from across the university鈥檚 history

Subcommittees composed of faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are leading efforts in areas such as community engagement, student experience, alumni engagement, storytelling, historical preservation, academic excellence and innovation, and campaign celebration.

The committee structure brings together faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to guide planning across key areas of the celebration.

Together, these efforts are designed to highlight the university鈥檚 history while engaging the campus and community in shaping what comes next.
