The course begins January 26 and will meet Monday evenings from 5鈥�7 p.m. in the Reynolds Business Building. It is open to nurses, doctors, pharmacists, administrative staff, and other professionals with little to no prior Spanish experience.

Participants will learn essential vocabulary, explore grammar fundamentals, and gain cultural insights to help build trust and overcome language barriers in clinical environments.

鈥淜nowing some Spanish in the medical field is no longer just a career advantage鈥攊t鈥檚 becoming essential,鈥� said Rex Wilkins, Ph.D., assistant professor of Spanish at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. 鈥淔rom physicians to front desk personnel, bilingual professionals can make a significant impact on patient outcomes and may even earn up to 20% more in salary than their monolingual peers.鈥�

The course will be taught by Mercedes Rodriguez, a Spanish instructor at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock with extensive experience in both language education and medical interpretation. She emphasized the real-world impact of even basic language skills in healthcare, noting that when professionals speak to patients in their own language鈥攅ven just a little鈥攊t can change the interaction. 鈥淚t builds trust and helps deliver better care,鈥� she said.

Nick Stevens, director of Corporate and Community Education, emphasized that the course reflects the university鈥檚 commitment to regional workforce development.

Johnson, a tech entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience in innovation and digital transformation, leads classes that combine strategy, tools, and hands-on application.

The new offerings include:

路   : A four-week certificate program teaching marketers how to leverage ChatGPT and other AI tools to accelerate campaign planning, uncover customer insights, and generate content at scale.

路 聽 : A 1.5-hour, beginner-friendly course introducing AI for everyday applications, from planning travel to organizing hobbies.

路   Customized AI Solutions for Business: Tailored AI consulting and training to help companies integrate AI tools for operations, marketing, and customer engagement. 

These courses are designed to meet a wide range of professional and personal goals. Dr. Aaron Duvall, executive director of workforce development at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, said the programs provide practical, immediately applicable skills.

鈥淲hether someone is new to AI or looking to implement advanced solutions in their business, participants will leave these courses with actionable strategies they can apply right away,鈥� Duvall said.

This course will take place from 6-8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Oct. 6-29 with seven live virtual sessions and one networking event (Oct. 29) at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Downtown, 333 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock.

Research shows that marketers using generative AI report productivity gains of 5-15 percent and improved personalization at scale, yet only 29 percent of marketers feel confident using AI today, highlighting the demand for upskilling. Participants will earn an AI for Business Certificate upon completion of the program.

The Basics of AI for Better Living course also opens the doors to nontechnical learners, including seniors, retirees, and anyone curious about integrating AI into daily life, making this technology more approachable and practical to use in everyday life. 鈥淚n an era where effective leadership at all levels is a critical driver of organizational success, the demand for skilled supervisors and managers is more pronounced than ever,鈥� said Dr. Otmar Varela, professor of management and program coordinator. 鈥淲ith the evolving workplace dynamics, there鈥檚 a growing need for leaders who are not only adept at managing tasks but are also capable of inspiring excellence, sparking innovation, and driving execution. The Supervisor Management Certificate is meticulously designed to equip participants with the competencies necessary to achieve such goals.鈥�

Participants will take a series of workshops that guide them from the foundations of managing individuals to an understanding of how organizations outperform competitors. Introduction to Beekeeping

The “Introduction to Beekeeping” workshop will kick off the series. In this session, participants will delve into the fascinating world of beekeeping. Harvest Bounty – The Art and Science of Food Preservation

Principles and Practices to Build Soil Health

This workshop will present practical, cost-effective ways to improve soil health to promote optimal plant performance for a bountiful harvest. Attendees will learn about the fascinating world of soil biology and the vital importance of soil organic matter, how soil properties such as pH and nutrient binding capacity affect plant growth, why soil testing is important, and how to effectively use organic fertilizers and soil management practices to achieve optimal crop performance. This workshop is aimed at helping gardeners and small scale farmers achieve the best possible results.

All workshops are open to the public. Registration for each workshop is $15 or $30 to attend all three.
