Nathan Treece, reporter and local host for Little Rock Public Radio, has received the Personal Growth Award. It recognizes an individual whose scholarship, research, or creative talent has been particularly outstanding.

鈥淚 would like to thank everyone at Little Rock Public Radio for considering me for this honor,鈥 Treece said. 鈥淚 couldn’t imagine a better group of people to work with. The team is so supportive of one another and works hard to bring critical information and educational programming to Arkansas’ airwaves every day.鈥

Treece earned a Bachelor of Arts in mass communications with honors from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock in 2017. An anonymous donor has made a transformative $400,000 gift to , providing critical support for equipment upgrades and infrastructure improvements that will enhance the station’s ability to serve its listeners across central Arkansas.

The donation will fund the purchase of a new transmitter for K糖心Vlog传媒R FM 89.1, as well as a backup transmitter to be housed at the studio. This backup will help minimize potential downtime during severe weather or other emergencies, ensuring that K糖心Vlog传媒R can continue to deliver timely news, music, and programming when listeners need it the most.

“This extraordinary gift is a testament to the power of public radio and the generosity of those who believe in its mission,鈥 said Jonathan Seaborn, general manager of Little Rock Public Radio. 鈥淩eplacing our aging transmitter and equipment ensures that we can continue delivering quality programming to our listeners for years to come. We are deeply grateful for this anonymous donor鈥檚 investment in the future of our station and the vital role it plays in our community.”

In addition to replacing the transmitter, the funds will be used to upgrade equipment in the station’s studio, particularly in the rack room, which serves as the operational hub of the facility. These upgrades are especially timely as Little Rock Public Radio prepares to move into a new studio space in Stabler Hall later this year.

鈥淢oving to a new location is the perfect opportunity to modernize our equipment and ensure that we鈥檙e set up for long-term success,鈥 Seaborn said. 鈥淲ith this generous support, we鈥檒l be able to provide our staff and interns with the tools they need to continue producing top-quality programming and reporting for our community.鈥

This gift marks the second major anonymous donation to Little Rock Public Radio in recent months. Earlier, another anonymous donor contributed $50,000 for essential repairs at KLRE鈥檚 transmitter site. That donation funded the replacement of a transmitter damaged by a 2023 lightning strike, as well as the purchase of a refurbished building to better protect KLRE鈥檚 equipment.

Housed within the College of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education, Little Rock Public Radio, home of K糖心Vlog传媒R FM 89.1 and KLRE Classical 90.5, is a public service unit of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. University students gain professional experience by working as interns and part-time staff members who take part in all aspects of KLRE and K糖心Vlog传媒R operations with a specific focus on news reporting and broadcast production.

has established the , a new $500,000 fund created to honor the legacy of an extraordinary Arkansan whose life was devoted to learning, justice, and community.

The late Judith K. Faust, an instructor emerita at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Social Work, held degrees in journalism, philosophy, and social work. She was a longtime supporter of K糖心Vlog传媒R and a tireless advocate for civil rights. This endowment, which was funded by a gift from Faust鈥檚 estate, reflects her multidisciplinary approach to improving lives and her belief in the power of truth-seeking and civic engagement.

The endowment will support local reporting initiatives that reflect her values, beginning with one newsroom position and growing to sustain multiple roles in the years ahead. It ensures that Little Rock Public Radio can continue producing journalism that asks hard questions, highlights differing perspectives, and empowers Arkansans to make informed decisions.

“Judith’s devotion to truth, to knowledge, to the pulse of our shared humanity, was not just evident, it was radiant,鈥 said Amy Freer, Faust’s longtime friend and mentee. 鈥淎s a writer, a professor, a mind that questioned deeply and cared fiercely, she saw journalism as a sacred thread: weaving clarity through chaos, stitching light into the fabric of public discourse. That her gift now fuels the voices of public radio, voices that seek truth, speak it, and share it, is a legacy as luminous as she was. I am so grateful to have been able to witness lives changing through Judith’s generosity. She is a true inspiration.”

Looking ahead, LRPR鈥檚 vision for journalism is rooted in three priorities:

  • Strengthening local, regional and statewide reporting
  • Investing in transparency and accountability
  • Ensuring that fact-based news remains accessible to all

Public radio has always been a partnership between stations and the people they serve. With the continued support of listeners, donors, and partners, this gift ensures that LRPR will remain a vital civic institution. LRPR remains committed to helping Arkansans navigate change, strengthen democracy, and build an informed community for generations to come.

Blake Givens has joined as its new membership coordinator, bringing with him a passion for community engagement and a wide range of professional experiences across media, marketing, and public service.

A native of North Little Rock who now lives in Sherwood, Givens began his role in March and is already working to strengthen the station鈥檚 connections with listeners, donors, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and the broader Central Arkansas community.

鈥淢y primary responsibilities are overseeing community engagement events, managing donations and member systems, and working closely with the Friends of KLRE/K糖心Vlog传媒R Board,鈥 Givens said. 鈥淚鈥檓 especially focused on building new partnerships鈥攂oth on campus and across the city鈥攖hat get more people involved with public radio.鈥

Givens is a longtime listener of Little Rock Public Radio, having tuned in regularly since his college years at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where he earned degrees in international economics and business as well as African American studies in 2019. He continued to listen even after moving out of state for work.

鈥淚 liked the idea of helping amplify what鈥檚 happening in the community through a platform that鈥檚 also rooted in that same community,鈥 he said. 鈥淐entral Arkansas is often talked about from the outside looking in. I think it鈥檚 time we tell our own stories鈥攚hat鈥檚 interesting, what鈥檚 fun鈥攁nd this role gives me the chance to help make that happen.鈥

Before joining Little Rock Public Radio, Givens worked as a research assistant at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he helped manage a grant project focused on improving healthy eating habits for children. His earlier career included time in product management and marketing, working for startups, national retailers, and even a business that was featured on the popular television show 鈥淪hark Tank.鈥

Having returned to Arkansas from Denver last fall, Givens said he saw the membership coordinator role as a way to channel his experience into supporting a public service he believes in.

鈥淚鈥檝e spent a lot of time working with products and product management in my career,鈥 he said. 鈥淧ublic radio is also a product. It鈥檚 a public service,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 something valuable that needs to be supported, and I saw this as the perfect opportunity to help a great community organization that is a wonderful resource for all of Arkansas.鈥

In his first year on the job, Givens is focused on three main goals: better understanding the station鈥檚 audience, increasing engagement through more community-focused events, and expanding connections with 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students.

鈥淲e want to create more meaningful moments with the community and also grow our relationship with the university,鈥 he said. 鈥淭here are so many students interested in music, journalism, and production. We want them to see Little Rock Public Radio as a place where they can learn, grow, and contribute.鈥

鈥淔or the past two years, we鈥檝e expanded our on-location reporting, including live broadcasts like Coffee with K糖心Vlog传媒R鈥 andAll Things Considered,鈥 but we鈥檝e been piecing together technology to make it happen,鈥 Seaborn said. 鈥淭his grant allows us to significantly improve our field recording capabilities and equip our newsroom with the tools needed to produce high-quality audio, whether it鈥檚 in the studio or on the go.鈥

The improvements include installing audio processors, microphones, and sound-dampening equipment in individual offices, enabling reporters to quickly record newscasts when studio space is limited. It also supports critical upgrades to the KLRE transmitter site, ensuring the longevity and performance of new broadcast equipment.

鈥淎s we expand our news coverage and invest in our team, it鈥檚 important that the sound quality reflects the same high standards as our journalism,鈥 Seaborn said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e also committed to protecting our larger investments in transmitter and studio upgrades by ensuring they鈥檙e installed in a structurally sound environment that will last well into the future.鈥

This is the latest in a series of grants from the Sturgis Trust, which has supported Little Rock Public Radio since 1997. The trust鈥檚 generosity has funded major improvements, including a nearly $50,000 grant in 2024 for studio upgrades.

鈥淟ittle Rock Public Radio continues to be a cornerstone of public media in Arkansas,鈥 Seaborn added. 鈥淭hanks to the continued generosity of the Sturgis Trust, we can equip our journalists with the tools they need to serve our community with excellence.鈥
