Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation鈥檚 oldest and most selective multidisciplinary collegiate honor society. Membership is by invitation only and reserved for those who have demonstrated the highest levels of academic achievement. Only the top 7.5% of juniors and seniors and the top 10% of graduate students are eligible. Each year, approximately 20,000 members are initiated across more than 300 campuses in the United States and its territories. Since its founding, more than 1.75 million scholars and professionals have joined its ranks.

糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 connection to Phi Kappa Phi runs deep. In January 1972, Arkansas鈥檚 first chapter of the honor society 鈥� Chapter 134 鈥� was installed at the university, making it the longest-running chapter in the state. The chapter鈥檚 founding members were drawn from the Sword and Shield Society, the honors organization that preceded Phi Kappa Phi at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. Today, the chapter boasts more than 3,900 members.

Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is about more than a credential. Eligibility is determined not only by academic record, but by professionalism, integrity, and ethical reputation. Members gain access to fellowships, grants, and awards across all fields of study, along with professional mentorship, networking opportunities through a national alumni base, and corporate partner benefits.

Michelle Keithley, a graduate student in the Professional and Technical Writing program, has been awarded a 2025 Love of Learning Award from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Keithley, a native of Springfield, Missouri, is one of only 155 recipients nationwide to receive the $1,000 award this year.

The supports post-baccalaureate professional development for active Phi Kappa Phi members, funding opportunities such as graduate studies, research travel, career advancement, and more. Keithley plans to use the award to help purchase a new computer, which she will use for both her graduate coursework and future writing and design projects after graduation.

鈥淚 was surprised and excited to learn I had been awarded the Love of Learning Award,鈥� Keithley said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 nice to be recognized for the effort I鈥檝e put into pursuing my education. Receiving this award is truly an honor, and I鈥檓 proud to have been selected.鈥�

Keithley, who also earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in professional and technical writing from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock in 2024, is on track to graduate in May 2026 and plans to pursue a career as a technical writer in the healthcare field.

Initiated into Phi Kappa Phi earlier this year, Keithley joins a long tradition of scholars recognized by the honor society for their academic achievements. Since 1932, Phi Kappa Phi鈥檚 award programs have recognized members and students for excellence, distributing more than $1 million annually through fellowships, study abroad grants, and literacy initiatives.

Johnson, a native of Joplin, Missouri, who now lives in Eureka Springs and works as a mental health counselor with Chenal Family Therapy, is one of only 155 recipients nationwide and one of two from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock to receive the $1,000 award this year. The Love of Learning Award supports post-baccalaureate professional development, including advanced studies, research, continuing education, and career training.

For Johnson, the award will help fund training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a specialized therapy used to treat trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder. The six-day course in Fort Smith, Arkansas, will also help her build skills in a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities.

鈥淚 am so appreciative of this award,鈥� Johnson said. 鈥淓ven though I鈥檝e completed my degree, continuing education is essential for therapists. There are dozens of therapy modalities beyond what we learn in graduate school, and many of them cost thousands of dollars to train and become certified in. This award helps make that training possible.鈥�

Johnson鈥檚 passion for helping others guides her work as a therapist, where she primarily serves children and families in the local school district. While 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock provided her with a strong foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she said expanding her skill set through additional certifications is key to providing the best possible care for her patients.

鈥淎 therapist needs to be able to do at least a few modalities well and be familiar with many,鈥� she said. 鈥淭his training will give me another important tool to help my clients heal and thrive.鈥�

Johnson was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi in 2024 at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. She said the award comes at a pivotal time in her career.

鈥淚鈥檓 still building my caseload and working toward a full-time income, so I鈥檓 having to pinch pennies,鈥� she said. 鈥淭his support truly comes at the right moment, and I鈥檓 deeply grateful.鈥�

Since 1932, Phi Kappa Phi鈥檚 award programs have recognized members and students for outstanding academic achievement and professional potential. Each year, the organization distributes more than $1 million through awards and grants that benefit nearly 400 individuals.

program was introduced in 2018. The program recognized 74 chapters this year, including 38 with the Silver distinction. The award is given to chapters that exceed expectations in chapter operations and who demonstrate sustainability and vitality as a chapter of Phi Kappa Phi.

This just means that we will be striving for the Gold Circle for the 2024-2025 school year.”

By receiving the Silver distinction, the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock chapter is recognized as a thriving organization that holds annual initiations, upholds the society bylaws, regularly attends chapter training opportunities, and submits a chapter-endorsed nominee to the Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Program.

Chapters achieving the Circle of Excellence Silver distinction receive a commendation letter from the society sent to chapter officers and campus administration, a special recognition on the Phi Kappa Phi website, a specially designed logo for use in chapter communications, and a $100 cash award.
